Information communication technology and supply chain efficiency in manufacturing SMES in Bulawayo Province in Zimbabwe
Sithokozile Bafana, Simba Mutsvangwa, Felix Chari, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: There has been a global plummeting trend of failure in most manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to purported supply chain inefficiency. It is imperative for clothing manufacturing SMEs in developing nations like Zimbabwe, with reference to Bulawayo Province, which lacks digitization to integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions into their supply chain operations to improving efficiency and maintain competitiveness in the global market. Thus, the purpose of the study was to evaluate ICT and supply chain efficiency in the clothing manufacturing SMEs in Bulawayo Province. Employing the pragmatic approach, data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires from a sample of 107 from a total population of 147 that were triangulated with 15 interviews from clothing manufacturing SMEs in Bulawayo. A simple linear regression analysis through Ordinary Least Squares was conducted to test the relationship between ICT and supply chain efficiency. The results show that ICT has a positive and statistically significant effect on cost performance, agility and delivery performance in Bulawayo clothing manufacturing SMEs. By prioritizing ICT adoption, managers can achieve better cost management, increased responsiveness to market demands, and enhanced delivery capabilities. It is recommended that clothing manufacturing SMEs in Bulawayo should embrace the ICT. Further studies should examine the relationship between ICT and supply chain efficiency in manufacturing SMEs across different industries and nations.

Production of artificial cold for industry, based on the magnetocaloric effect
Dorin Botoc, Ionut-Bogdan Rusu, Adrian Plesca, Jurij Avsec, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The most common current technology for producing artificial cold is based on the operation of gas compression and absorption, which was discovered more than a century ago. This technology uses refrigerants as a heat transfer agent. Magnetic refrigeration is an innovative technology that works based on the magnetocaloric effect and the properties of certain rare materials/metals. The present paper describes a simulation of the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of a gadolinium plate (Gd.), which is the main component of the active magnetic regenerator (AMR). The first part includes a description and history of the discovery of the magnetocaloric effect of materials that possess such properties. The continuation is a COMSOL Multiphysics modelling of AMR's main component: a gadolinium (Gd) plate. The simulation of the magnetocaloric effects and the heat dispersion on its surface was done in COMSOL, as was the highlighting of the adiabatic temperature on the flat surface of the plate. Water was used as a heat transfer agent, and gadolinium (Gd) was used as a reference criterion for the materials. The model simulates a single step of the magnetic refrigeration cycle and evaluates the AMR's performance with a single board. This study enables identifying the most important characteristics that influence the active magnetic regenerator's thermal behaviour.

A regenerator used in the installation of magnetic refrigeration devices
Dorin Botoc, Jurij Avsec, Adrian Plesca, 2020, strokovni članek

Opis: In this article, the mechanism and functioning of a refrigeration system based on the magnetic system and the magnetocaloric effect are examined. Magnetic refrigeration plants operate based on a state-of-the-art technology that does not contain any toxic refrigerant that is harmful to the environment and the ozone layer. The magnetocaloric effect is created by a rare earth metal called gadolinium. We have studied the benefits of using this type of mechanism for both domestic and industrial needs. High efficiency, net energy consumption lower than the classic, silent systems, and a lack of typical refrigerant characterize this type of installation. The following layout describes the initial prototype for AMR in magnetocaloric refrigeration.

Analysing energy and material saving technologies' adoption and adopters
Iztok Palčič, Marc Pons, Andrea Bikfalvi, Josep Llach Pagès, Borut Buchmeister, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main objective of this paper is to map the adoption of technologies for energy reduction and resources consumption in production. The aim is also to contribute to the identification and understanding of the characteristics of the manufacturing firms that use these kinds of energy and material saving technologies. Our research is based on data from the largest European manufacturing survey to date and it includes data from Spain and Slovenia. The results show that the use of specific energy saving technologies and material saving technologies in manufacturing firms is still modest. Dividing manufacturing firms based on technology intensity sectors and based on their relative energy efficiency we have concluded that firms in high technology industries focus less on energy efficiency than low technology firms. Some other specific relationships between the use of energy efficient technologies and adopters' characteristics (e. g. use of environmental management systems) are presented in this paper.
