Opis: The development of logistics has contributed a lot to all the branches of economy. A successful economic subject cannot exist without a well-developed logistic branch. The organization of logistics has become a strategic element of the policy making of enterprises. Modern logistics enables us to bring into line different interests in material flow management. Global organizers of logistic services are developing and specialising in some essential services, such as combining of cargo into assembly consignements and also their distribution. The biggest global tenderers of logictic services are considered (DHL, TNT, FEDEX, UPS, etc).

Holistic thinking aproach

Opis: Modern complexity of management is associated with im- portant decision making, confronting a great number of useless information. Selection of information - the choice of only qual-ity ones, i. e. essential ones, is a big problem in management decision-making. Implementation of systemic approach i. e. dialectical-network thinking (DNT) can help to deal with it. The paper presents a holistic thinking approach in a case study for the Slovenian parcel postal problem. The volume of parcel flows at the Post of Slovenia between Posts is increasing rapidly and it requires a new design of the postal network. This paper presents a reorganization of parcel services between Postal Logistics Centers and Posts by adding Regional Parcel Centers and Parcel Posts to the network. A case for the area covered by Ljubljana Postal Logistics Center is given, which takes into consideration the sorting out and the retaining of parcels in the Posts, Parcel Posts and Regional Parcel Centers within their individual areas.

Outsourcing of logistics activities in manufacturing industry

Opis: The external supply of logistics services is part of a trend toward outsourcing non-core logistics activities. The scope of third-party logistics may range from a relatively limited combination of activities (e.g. transportation and warehousing) to a comprehensive set of logistics services. The authors first discuss the characteristics of business logistics in manufactoring industry, to be taken into account in logistics outsourcing. They particularly point out the motivations for logistics outsourcing, the possibilities of outsourcing, as well as supplier selection. Finally they analyze the outsourcing in the reverse logistics.

Relationship between logistics service's perceived value and outsourcing of logistics activities

Opis: Outsourcing has become increasingly popular in recent years, and is often quoted as a means of coping with rapid changes in technology and in the business environment. The scope of third-party logistics may range from a relatively limited combination of activities (e.g. transportation and warehousing) to a comprehensive set of logistics services. The authors first define the reasons for outsourcing with the emphasis on business logistics. They particularly point out the motivations for logistics outsourcing, the possibilities of logistics outsourcing, and they present the process of outsourcing partner selection as well. Finally they analyze the specific issues of logistics service's perceived value in outsourcing logistics activities on the basis of the survey carried out in Slovenian companies. The purpose of the survey was to measure the customers' perception of different characteristics of logistics provider which can be decisive when manufacturing firms are trying to make a decision whether to outsource and which logistics provider to select. The paper creates a framework for selection of the important and perceived characteristics of logistics provider relevant to customer in the process of the logistics supplier selection.

The importance of logistics service quality in a business-to-business market

Opis: The conceptualization and assessment of service quality continues to play an important role in marketing. The main aim of this paper is to study the perceived quality of service offered in the particular case of a logistics service organisation. We attempted to identify the gaps in logistical service offered in the samples of Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnian and Serbian and Monte Negrin enterprises. A comparative analysis discovered the differences and particularities linked to the specific markets regarding the importance and perceived characteristics of logistical services. While search quality factors can be assessed even before purchase, experience quality can be assessed only after purchase. Results indicate that consumers have evaluated the logistical service of logistics provider Intereuropa Ltd. Co. in terms of three major dimensions: on-time delivery, speed of delivery and the reliability of logistical services offered. In this paper, we explored the gaps in the logistical service offered in the samples of Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnian and Serbian and Monte Negrin enterprises. The study's findings suggest a framework to develop measures to empirically assess logistical service quality.

Systemic logistics providers

Opis: The functioning of a port and shipping system must be perfect in order to provide a competitive advantage and stable position in maritime market. The importance of logistics in business success of port and shipping organizations in contemporary conditions has become crucial. Due to that fact, more and more efforts are put in the designing of integral logistics systems. Thanks to a complex, systemic and networking approach, logistics today is improving the speed and efficiency of operations and significantly influences cost reduction and therewith fulfills one of the basic strategic functions, anticipating necessary key competences of the firm. It is a resource framework for the overcoming of strategic limitations and a method for the enhancement of the competitive position and all marketing and management functions. In addition to that, the integration of partners requires, by rule, a consistent restructuring of the total chain dedicated to the creation of added value, i.e. reengineering of logistics and production business processes. Flexible and small structural units are created, cooperating among each other in a decentralized manner, retaining their key competences and strategic significance for the integral network dominated by a single leading firm as a center of the system, i.e. focus of the supply chain. The paper analyzes the formation of new logistics and marketing paradigm of the beginning of the new century and millennium, anticipating the overcoming of the traditional 3PL three-party logistics concept and formation of contemporary 4PL concept.

Specific characteristics of the ship and port services as aspects of maritime management

Opis: Several ship and port services have been considered, along with their specific characteristics and in the context of their place and role in the entire maritime transport management. A general analysis has been conducted and classification of services of the maritime transport has been done. The specific components and features of the functioning of enterprises of maritime transport services and management of their respective departments and transport stages of sea shipping have been described. A detailed description and substantiation of several levels of management that perform certain specific tasks in the logistics customer service in marine transportation has been given. Some features of the production and service management in seaports have been identified and discussed. A detailed analysis has been provided in terms of modern logistical approaches to customer service of freight trans- port service in general and marine cargo transport services, in particular. The major starting point hypothesis has been confirmed that the quality of services plays a dominant role in the competitive transport environment. The results for a particular seaport and maritime transportation organisations have been determined by the quality of services. In the context of rapid and continuous development of the service sector and its growing contribution to the gross domestic product, the consideration of the ship and maritime transport services is very important, especially for the maritime coastal countries, because they generate extraordinary possibilities for increasing employment, raising competitiveness and the economy of countries and development of their territories. In addition, quality maritime and port services make part of the modern transnational logistic network.
