Improvement of logistics in manufacturing system by the use of simulation modelling : a real industrial case study
M. Straka, S. Khouri, Radim Lenort, P. Besta, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The current practice and the requirements of industrial enterprises in all industrial areas require a detailed display of manufacturing systems course of events. In this paper, we studied the effects and impacts of computer simulation to improve the actual industrial production. We also verified whether the proposed simulation model and its intervention in the logistics of concrete production in a concrete manufacturing enterprise will correspond to reality. The EXTENDSIM simulation software was used. The simulation results utilization in practice has increased the actual production several times. The simulation results indicated that it is necessary to double the intensity of company supply, i.e. a frequency of entry set to 0.15 days for each timber type. This adjustment increased the performance of unutilized devices and the whole manufacturing system several times, up to 54,475 produced building timber elements, which represents an increase of production by about 199.6 % while maintaining company flexibility.

A framework to establish and operate a global logistics energy hub : doktorska disertacija
Mahmoud Ahmed Abd Ellatif Hammad, 2024, doktorska disertacija

Opis: Energy is an essential component of our daily lives. Despite the expanded use of new and renewable energy sources, oil and gas remain the primary sources of energy. Recently, oil and gas sources have become more vulnerable due to their limited and uncertain availability, as well as geopolitical issues that threaten the security of their supply chains. As a result, securing energy sources in general and oil and gas in particular at reasonable prices and reliable supplies has become a major global concern. As a result, the establishment and operation of energy hubs along energy transit routes between producing and consuming countries is crucial for the security and sustainability of the energy supply. These energy hubs can facilitate the trade and exchange of energy by offering logistics services such as transportation, storage, processing, and distribution. This means that establishing and operating such energy hubs necessitates some logistics requirements. However, previous studies did not tackle the logistics requirements for establishing and operating energy hubs in a single, comprehensive framework. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to address the logistics requirements of energy hubs, with a focus on oil and gas, and to develop a comprehensive framework for establishing and operating GLEH through conducting an empirical study on the Egyptian oil and gas industry. The study was carried out through seven sequential phases. The study conducted a systematic review of the previous literature using the PRISMA flow diagram and visual bibliometric analysis via VOSviewer software to identify the main research gap and develop an integrated theoretical framework for creating and operating a GLEH. The study then adopted mixed research methods to reap the benefits of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative technique was used to convert the theoretical framework into a practical framework by conducting semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders. The quantitative method was applied to examine the relationships between the variables and validate the study’s hypotheses in the Egyptian context through a survey. The study set out an applied framework to help establish and operate GLEHs that can improve the security of energy supplies. It also highlighted the key challenges that might face the establishment and operation of GLEHs and suggested strategies to deal with them. The study would contribute to science by developing a unique and comprehensive framework for establishing and operating GLEHs, considering both theoretical and empirical aspects. At a practical level, the proposed framework can help improve the global energy supply chain and its sustainability, especially for oil and gas. It can also be used as a model by other countries and regions to establish and operate logistics hubs for energy and other sectors. Furthermore, the framework can be used in further research to develop the performance of energy hubs.

Designing efficient algorithms for logistics management : optimizing timeconstrained vehicle routing
Karlo Bala, Martin Fale, Nebojša Gvozdenović, Tomaž Kramberger, Dejan Brcanov, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: City logistics is a critical component of urban economic development, as it optimizes supply chains, enhances customer satisfaction through reliable deliveries, and minimizes environmental impacts in densely populated areas. This field addresses various challenges, including traffic congestion, environmental concerns, noise pollution, and the crucial need for timely deliveries. Routing and scheduling are central to logistics operations, with modern software integrating time windows to meet precise scheduling demands driven by detailed customer requirements and operational efficiencies. Furthermore, advanced vehicle routing models now effectively simulate real-world factors such as traffic congestion, stochastic travel times, and dynamic product demands. Purpose: This paper aims to develop an algorithm that addresses the routing decisions. Our approach extends to the time dimension, considering travel times and customer service times within predefined time windows. Study design/methodology/approach: The proposed algorithm is structured to execute in iterative phases, aiming to optimize key logistical objectives. In order to generate competitive solutions, we seek to minimize the number of vehicles utilized and overall travel costs. The evaluation of solution space was conducted via Simulated Annealing. Findings/conclusions: The performance of the proposed algorithm, evaluated using the Gehring and Homberger benchmark instances for 200 customers, demonstrates its effectiveness. The algorithm successfully meets the target number of vehicles required, and the associated travel costs are on average within 1% of the best solutions reported in the relevant literature. Limitations/future research: Given the ongoing need for timely solutions from decision-makers, future research endeavors will focus on enhancing the computational efficiency of the algorithm. Additionally, incorporating more time-related features, such as stochastic travel times, could further improve the algorithm's real-time applicability.

Impact of logistics trends on freight transport development in urban areas
Tomislav Letnik, Katja Hanžič, Giuseppe Luppino, Matej Mencinger, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: City logistics is subject to constant development, generated by new logistics trends and high customers’ expectations. With the aim of creating an effective, acceptable, and sustainable city logistics policy, it is therefore essential to understand logistics trends and their expected impact on the development of urban freight transport in the future. In this paper, we explore and compare the expectations of public authorities, business, and academia regarding the short-, medium-, and longterm impacts of different logistics trends on urban logistics. Following a literature review, the expert survey was used to assess the expected impact and time horizon. According to the respondents, “e-commerce”, “automated vehicles”, “electric vehicles”, “grey power logistics”, “omni-channel logistics”, and the “desire for speed” will have the greatest impact on urban freight transport in the future. An interesting observation concerns some differences of opinion between public and private stakeholders. In general, the business community believes that the identified trends will have a greater impact on urban logistics in a shorter period of time, while public authorities believe that the mentioned trends will have a less strong impact on urban logistics in a longer time scale. This shows the need for more active collaboration between them in the policy-making process.
