Analytical travel time models for multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems
Tone Lerher, Matjaž Šraml, Janez Kramberger, Iztok Potrč, Matej Borovinšek, Blaž Zmazek, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems correspond to multiple picking aisles served by a single storage and retrieval machine. These systemsare used in practice when the need for pallet places is high and the throughput capacity is relatively low. Therefore, considerable savings of initial investment costs due to single aisle systems can be achieved using such systems. The objective of the presented study is to develop analytical travel time models for multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems considering the operating characteristics of the storage and retrieval machine. With the proposed analytical travel time models, average travel time of the storage and retrieval machine, from which the performance of multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems can be evaluated is determined. A simulation model of multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems was developed to compare the performances of the proposed analytical travel time models. An example of multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems withfive picking aisles was presented for the evaluation purpose. The results show that proposed analytical travel time models perform satisfactory according to the results of simulation analysis and could be very useful toolsfor designing of multi aisle automated storage and retrieval systems in real-world applications.

Strategic role of maintenance in logistics of tomorrow
Mladen Jakovčić, Bojan Rosi, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Despite the fact that maintenance of array of machinery and equipment is often considered as one of the backup processes or operative functions, its reliable and safe performance is extremely important for every day-to-day routine work, especially operations related to logistics. The latter is interdisciplinary professional and scientific activity which combines variety of operations and subsystems, including the maintenance, which is the subject of research in this paper. It is important to bear in mind that any object invented or fabricated by man needs maintenance. It is simply impossible to discuss comprehensive and quality logistics without considering the function of maintenance, i.e. providing reliable function of logistic machinery and equipment that is overall equipment effectiveness.

Segmenting risks in risk management
Borut Jereb, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper describes a segmentation of risks to make each risk segment more manageable. The proposed approach is primarily intended to improve the confidentiality of risk simulations. The description of the approach is based on a logistics business process system which requires that its input is represented as a process graph. Each process is defined in terms of input and output; input comprises general input as well as risks; output comprises general output as well as impacts. The model takes into consideration internalas well as external input and output. Parameters can be used to define individual processes. Processes include functions that calculate new values of parameters and output on the bases of given input. Based on given tolerance levels for risks, impacts and process parameters, the model determines whether these levels are acceptable. The model assumes that parameters and functions are non-deterministic, i.e. parameters and functions may change in time. Although the approach is described on a very general level, each segment can be further subdivided into subsegments in order to include more characteristics of observed risks.

Cross-cultural comparison of online job advertisements
Irena Gorenak, Sonja Mlaker Kač, Sara Orthaber, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Job advertisements should reflect an ideal candidate that the company is looking for. This is especially important for logistic companies which - due to their service-oriented nature - are inseparably connected with their employees. This paper aims to compare and analyse Slovenian, German and British online job advertisements from the field of logistics. Furthermore, this paper will discuss the structure and special features of job advertisements whereby relevant cultural differences between the three countries will be emphasized. With this in mind, differences in understanding logistics as such will be identified and cultural differences regarding employees' characteristics further discussed. For this purpose, six online job ads published in October 2008 in different online media in Slovenia, Germany and the UK will be qualitatively analysed. In the analysis relevant cross-cultural differences and similarities will be addressed and their implications further discussed.

Green logistics - a solar warehouse concept
Matjaž Knez, Péter Bajor, Sebastijan Seme, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Transportation and logistics are responsible for climate change as they produce greenhouse gases and contribute to the increasing share of fossil fuels, such as oil, in global energy consumption. Supplying the required energy for the transport and logistics sector in an environment-friendly way (based on electric or hydrogen fuels) is one of the main challenges for mankind. Material handling processes have a significant energy demand in warehouse operations, and the application of electricity-driven vehicles and equipment is widely accepted. With the effective use of available green electricity sources - like photovoltaic and wind energy - in the warehouse, we could provide energy for these operations. This article, based on laboratory data, describes a solar-warehouse concept and analyzes the critical parameters, such as energy demand of processes and vehicles, the characteristics of consumption and production, the alternative solutions of electricity storage and fast-charging.
