Milena Kajba, Borut Jereb, Matevž Obrecht, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Supply chain disruptions and challenges have and will always exist, but preparing in advance and improving resilience for the upcoming consequences should be the utmost important goal. This paper explores trends that affect innovation in the technological sphere of supply chain systems. More precisely, the research is focused on Digital Twin technology applicability through other logistics IT trends and aims to research the pressing issue of ensuring the visibility and resilience of future supply chain systems. The paper’s objective is to produce a conceptual model enabling the investment assessment of the necessary IT resources. Initially, a theoretical confirmation of logistics IT trends’ relevance to supply chain systems was established. After, propositions of Digital Twin technology applications to other logistics IT trends were made, which were divided into corresponding constant multitudes of supply chain systems. Lastly, the conceptual model for the investment assessment of the necessary IT resources was derived in the form of a matrix. It considers 16 parameters for investment assessment and applicability to all companies, regardless of their specifics. It also supports the notion of digital IT competencies’ fundamental importance to the continuous operation of supply chain systems.

Logistics systems in economics: an example of system application in a company
Čedomir Božić, 2022, magistrsko delo

Opis: In modern society, which is characterized by process of rapid change in the logistics sector, including supply chain, transport and Internet protocols, and which are partly conditioned by changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, placement and sale of products within retail chains requires a stronger marketing strategy which would significantly promote the benefits of their purchase. Based on the presented facts, we can state that the logistics management process, which includes supply chain risk management, is a continuous task whose main task is to anticipate possible risks, take action during their period and minimize the consequences of all forms (types) of risk business. Every institution and economic organization in our country should seriously and continuously approach the identification of risks by the type of risk and appropriate action to eliminate it. The consequence of adequate risk management is transparent and more efficient business operations that lead to a more prosperous and profitable business. The type and manner of risks, as well as the definition of measures and strategies that will be applied to eliminate them, requires a significant commitment of funds. Sometimes it is enough to react in time and prevent actions that require minimal engagement to prevent consequences that can have significant negative consequences such as domino effects. The consequences of the economic sector, actions, and measures taken often have a consequential impact on the country's overall political, social, and economic system. Therefore special attention is paid to the protection and prevention of risks in banking to avoid sudden changes and adverse effects of monetary policy. The contribution to market stability is of public and national interest, so paying more attention to one of the primary problems in business and risk management. Within the operation of the economic system, there are a large number of employees, and therefore it is vital to properly delegate functions, powers, and tasks and, by them, adequate responsibilities, obligations, tasks, rights, and consequences. The work aims to analyze different types of logistics system operations and ways of classifying their functions in supply. Also, the work tries to identify the most critical subjects of logistics services. The work aims to also analyze different types of operations of logistics systems, as well as how their functions are classified, namely functions that facilitate the supply of a particular area. This master's thesis aims to identify the most critical subjects of logistics services within the management of logistics operations with intermediaries' participation and identify their tasks and objectives. The first part of the master's thesis is dedicated to supplying chains as an integral part of logistics systems in economics, their concept and significance, their supply chain management goals, its key components, significance and type of supply chain risks, and their impact on logistics. The second part of the master's thesis is dedicated to the role of transport within logistics systems, the concept, function, and importance of intermodal transport within logistics, the importance and share of intermodal transport costs in the logistics system, and the role of logistics in intermodal transport in the European Union and the USA. The third part of the master's thesis deals with explaining Internet protocols within logistics, defining the concept with an explanation of the elements and functions of Internet network protocols, and the levels of the reference OSI model. In the fourth part, the functioning of logistics within the company LIDL is presented. In the last part of the master's thesis, there are concluding remarks with the used literature.

Sustainable development in transport and logistics
Vasja Omahne, 2021, magistrsko delo

Opis: The support for an ongoing global pursuit of sustainable development, consumer awareness about sustainability, and regulations have affected the transport and logistics sector due to the fact that it presents ample environmental, social and economic challenges. The transport sector contributes globally to about 14% of greenhouse gas emissions, and around one third of the European Union's emissions, yet also represents an important economic sector, employing around 10 million individuals, thus requiring an in-depth discussion, especially regarding environmental impact. Due to increasing global concern for the environment, companies and policymakers are facing pressure to reduce the environmental impact related to transport and logistics activities and make them more sustainable. Before choosing a best practice for improvement, especially regarding the environmental perspective, a thorough analysis regarding the environmental impact has to be carried out based on reliable data and methodology. For such purposes, the life cycle assessment (LCA) defined by standards ISO 14040 and 14044 is commonly used. While the LCA focuses only on the environmental perspective, sustainability is represented by three dimensions, which are environmental, economic and social and those are interlinked, which presents a challenge, as each dimension has a major impact on every stage of the life cycle of a product, process or service. Thus there is a need to evaluate all three perspectives of sustainability in order to make transport and logistics processes more sustainable. Another option to make transport and logistics processes more sustainable and to achieve sustainable development is through education. Thus, it is important to integrate sustainability-oriented topics in logistics programs and courses, and consequently educate future logisticians about sustainability. Considering environmental burdens and sustainable development in transport and logistics, we explored LCA regarding its use in transport and logistics and studied the integration of sustainability into logistics education in EU, as it is important to educate future logistics managers and decision makers to gain sufficient knowledge on the importance of sustainability. Also, as logistics processes pose several environmental challenges and impacts, social and economic impacts are the ones that are frequently overlooked. Thus we additionally focused on performing an applicable comprehensive sustainability evaluation of a monkey toy and evaluated its environmental (through LCA), social (through SLCA) and economic (through LCC) impacts through the life cycle. At the same time, we explored options to enhance the present CE concept in the monkey toy company. Exploring the use of LCA in transport and logistics, we focused on the state-of-the-art of transport-related life cycle assessment studies, as they are important for the decision-making processes. Our research of LCA & transport studies was framed around the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization. A specific focus was given to the quality of life cycle assessment phases, comprehending goal and scope, inventory, life cycle impact assessment, and interpretation. Thirty-four research and review papers were studied, sourced from the Web of Science database. Studying the monkey toy, we firstly assessed the environmental impacts of the toy through LCA and additionally combined it with SLCA and LCC to evaluate the toy's sustainability comprehensively. Based on the results of the sustainability evaluation, we gained an insight into environmental, economic and social hotspots that the monkey represents. We then presented a possible enhancement of the CE concept. Lastly, focusing on logistics education, we analyzed and elaborated upon an integration of sustainability topics at higher education programs in logistics and their curricula for bachelor and master degrees at universities across Europe.
