Sleeping beauties in pediatrics
Jernej Završnik, Peter Kokol, 2016, kratki znanstveni prispevek

Opis: Sleeping beauties (SBs) in science have been known for few decades; however, it seems that only recently have they become popular. An SB is a publication that ‘‘sleeps’’ for a long time and then almost suddenly awakes and becomes highly cited. SBs present interesting findings in science. Pediatrics research literature has not yet been analyzed for their presence, and 5 pediatrics SBs were discovered in this research. Their prevalence was approximately 0.011%. Some environments or periods are more ‘‘SB fertile’’ than others: 3 of 5 SBs were published in the journal Pediatrics, 4 originated from the United States, and 4 were published in the period from 1992 to 1993. No institutions or authors published more than 1 SB.

ANALIZA VARNOSTI, ZASEBNOSTI IN ZAUPANJA REŠITEV "GOOGLE APPS"
Robert Vahter, 2011, diplomsko delo

African Literature
Denis Recek, 2011, diplomsko delo

Opis: The topic of this diploma is the formation and shaping of African literature. The first chapter is about the beginning of African literature. It describes oral literature and its transmission into written literature. Written African literature had great problems in becoming a part of world literature because of its diversity of languages and dialects. Christianity and Islam are mentioned as two religions which had a great impact on African literature. Colonialism is broadly described as an essential factor in the development of African literature. The second chapter is an analysis of a famous novel written by Alan Paton entitled Cry the Beloved Country. It speaks of a parson searching for his son in a big city. During this search there are many descriptions of the circumstances people live and their relationships. I compared the novel to a recent movie about aliens that are imprisoned in a concentration camp entitled District 9.

The Thorn Birds - more than trivial literature
Valentina Uplaznik Tičić, 2011, diplomsko delo

Opis: The diploma paper focuses on the Australian author Colleen McCullough and her and most famous novel The Thorn Birds. First, the term popular literature is explained, its history and development through the years. Colleen McCullough’s life and its features reflected in her works are presented. She is introduced as the writer of many genres and even her biggest critics do not oppose it. The diploma paper focuses on her most famous novel, The Thorn Birds. It has been sold in many copies, translated into many world languages and is today still one of the most frequently borrowed library books. The author earned the world fame with it. It is considered as the popular literature. However, in this diploma paper the main thesis is that it is more than that and many examples from the novel itself are provided as proofs. The author takes us to many parts of the world and she describes them in much detail, especially the Australian Outback. She shows great knowledge of the Catholic Church, its system and the Church requirements of its priests. Symbols and metaphors are used sparingly, but effectively. Based on the novel, the miniseries was shot. The differences and the similarities with the novel are also presented in this diploma paper.

BEING REVOLTING IN TWO LANGUAGES: ROALD DAHL'S CHILDREN'S POETRY IN SLOVENE TRANSLATION
Nuša Jeza Milošič, 2012, diplomsko delo

Opis: Translation of children's literature is a special challenge. The translator has to take into consideration specific guidelines, reader's expectations and aesthetic measures which are appropriate for the specific age, and at the same time has to face the numerous language barriers that typify children's poetry. Poetry in a wider sense as well as children's poetry contains many elements that could represent a difficulty for the translator. Such elements are rhyme, rhythm, meter and sound figures; the latter are especially frequent in children's literature and children's poetry. One additional challenge for the translator is translation of puns in children's literature which are often culturally determined. Translators, like authors, play an important role in the development of children's literature. Owing to them, young readers across the world know the classic characters of children's literature, such as Pippi Longstocking, Winnie-the-Pooh and others. The purpose of this diploma paper is to investigate whether the Slovene translation of Revolting Rhymes has the same effect among Slovenian readers as the original. By analysing Roald Dahl's work Revolting Rhymes and its Slovene translation, I want to establish the difficulties that a translator encounters when translating children's poetry. Throughout my diploma paper, I do not take sides with any translation school; my goal is to analyse the original and the translation, compare similarities and differences and to provide my own conclusions and solutions. I took into consideration various aspects: meaning, imagery and idiom, tone, translation shifts, elements of poetic language (figures of speech, especially sound figures), lexical categories, fairytale characteristics, meaning of original illustrations etc.
Ključne besede: translation, children's literature, poetry, Roald Dahl, Kitty M. van Leuven-Zwart, sound figures

Michelle Gadpaille, 2011, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci
