How workplace friendships impact burnout among social care leaders : a job demands-resources framework analysis
Réka Schutzmann, Anna Kozak, Klára Soltész-Várhelyi, Katalin Nistor, Beáta Dávid, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and purpose: The purpose of this study, guided by the Job Demands-Resources Model, is to investigate the role of workplace friendships in mitigating burnout. This research is notable for its unique focus on a relatively rare sample: social care leaders. These individuals play a crucial role in shaping and influencing social services, making their insights invaluable for understanding the challenges and opportunities within this sector. Methods: Using a cross-sectional and quantitative design, data were collected from a convenience sample of Hungarian social care leaders, including sociodemographic information, the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ II), and professional core discussion network (pCDN) questions. The analysis of 449 Hungarian social care leaders employs a saturated model of moderated mediation (controlling for age and gender) to examine how stress mediates the relationship between quantitative demands and burnout and how workplace friendships moderate this mediation effect. Results: The results indicate that stress significantly mediates the relationship between quantitative demands and burnout, with workplace friendships acting as a buffer under moderate stress levels. Having at least one workplace friend reduces the impact of stress on burnout; however, this protective effect diminishes under higher stress intensities. Conclusions: These findings underscore the importance of fostering quality and balanced workplace friendships rather than merely increasing the number of supportive relationships. Given the systemic challenges in Hungarian social care, these insights are particularly relevant for leaders seeking to improve workforce resilience and well-being.

The relation between leadership and expected results from the educational process within school culture
Ludvík Eger, Dana Egerová, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: School culture is a multifaceted concept, comprising multiple dimensions. The present research explored relations between selected dimensions: between the dimension focused on shared objectives, trust in school leadership, and on a managerial approach, and the important dimension focused on the innovation process and the results expected from the education process. School leaders using the School Culture Inventory evaluated current and desired school culture in their primary schools to identify culture gaps. The research findings should help school leaders in planning to shape the culture and innovate the strategy of the schools they manage.

Global leading and competencies of global leaders
Dorotea Markasović, Najla Podrug, Ana Aleksić Fredotović, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Global leading and leadership are two of the most relevant topics in contemporary management literature, as shown by the scientific interest and the number of papers that reflect this topic from several different points of view. This paper's purpose was to review the current research and papers published in this field in the last decade. For this purpose, visualization was done in the VOSviewer application. Findings show that the frequency of publication had doubled in the analyzed period, with the following competencies considered the most important ones for global leaders: a global mindset, emotional intelligence, high ethical standards, fairness, empowering individuals in the team, and caring for your team. The paper provides insight into general trends in research and key research conclusions that have implications and applications in the real sector. It proposes directions for future research based on detected research gaps.

Understanding future leaders : how are personal values of generations Y and Z tailored to leadership in industry 4.0?
Rok Črešnar, Zlatko Nedelko, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study combines two main challenges for organizations today, as it examines the alignment between personal values of future leaders and the values needed in the Industry 4.0 workplace. Based on the movement of the organizational environment toward a more multidisciplinary, open, collaborative and multicultural environment, we presuppose that the Industry 4.0 workplace requires a more benevolent, universally oriented and generally self-transcended leaders. Drawing upon Schwartz’s value theory, we examine the impact of Generations Y and Z’s personal values on their leadership inclination. The results from the survey of 371 young participants from Generations Y and Z reveal that self-enhancement (i.e., power and achievement), openness to change and conservation values most significantly affect leadership inclination. Meanwhile, benevolence, universalism and general self-transcendence values—cornerstones of the Industry 4.0 workplace—show negative effects on leadership inclination in the frame of the Industry 4.0 workplace. This indicates a poor fit between the values of future leaders and the values of the Industry 4.0 workplace. These findings have significant implications for human resource management in future organizations and contribute to the understanding of future leaders. In addition, the findings can help organizations to manage sustainable workings in an Industry 4.0 environment.

Sustainability of organizations : the contribution of personal values to democratic leadership behavior focused on the sustainability of organizations
Zlatko Nedelko, Vojko Potočan, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main purpose of this study was to examine the influence of leaders’ personal values on their democratic behavior from a sustainability perspective. We specified and tested the research model, drawing upon modified versions of the theory of basic values and the autocratic–democratic leadership continuum. A total of 208 Slovenian and 196 Austrian leaders’ responses were used in hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling analysis. The results reveal a significant and positive influence of collectivistic values in both samples on democratic leadership behavior. A significant and negative effect of individualistic values on democratic leadership behavior is present in Austria, while in Slovenia, the effect is positive but not significant. Based on acknowledged associations between leader’s values, leaders’ democratic leadership behavior, and sustainable development, we argue that democratic leadership behavior contributes to the sustainable working and behavior of organizations. These results have theoretical implications, indicating how personal values affect leaders’ democratic behavior and contribute to the sustainable working and behavior of organizations. The practical implications relate to the strengthening of leaders’ democratic behavior in Slovenian and Austrian organizations. In addition, these findings will be helpful in increasing the sustainability of organizations via fostering democratic leadership behavior and its underlying personal values.

Segregation dynamics driven by network leaders
Wen-Xuan Wang, Yuhao Feng, Siru Chen, Wenzhe Xu, Xinjian Zhuo, Huijia Li, Matjaž Perc, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Network segregation - a critical problem in real-life networks - can reveal the emergence of conflicts or signal an impending collapse of the whole system. However, the strong heterogeneity of such networks and the various definitions for key nodes continue to pose challenges that limit our ability to foresee segregation and to determine the main drivers behind it. In this paper, we show that a multi-agent leader-follower consensus system can be utilized to define a new index, named leadership, to identify key leaders in real-life networks. And then, this paper explores the emergence of network segregation that is driven by these leaders based on the removal or the rewiring of the relations between different nodes in agreement with their contribution distance. We finally show that the observed leaders-driven segregation dynamics reveals the dynamics of heterogeneous attributes that critically influence network structure and its segregation. Thus, this paper provides a theoretical method to study complex social interactions and their roles in network segregation, which ultimately leads to a closed-form explanation for the emergence of imbalanced network structure from an evolutionary perspective.

The relationship between spiritual intelligence and work satisfaction among leaders and employees
Maja Koražija, Simona Šarotar Žižek, Damijan Mumel, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study aims to investigate the relationship between spiritual intelligence and work satisfaction among both leaders and employees. Most studies in this area have focused on researching the relationship between employees’ spiritual intelligence and work satisfaction, so we also researched the relationship between leaders’ spiritual intelligence and work satisfaction. Our leading thesis was that leaders and employees with a higher level of spiritual intelligence have a higher level of work satisfaction. In our study, we found no significant relationship between spiritual intelligence and work satisfaction for leaders, but we found a significant positive relationship between spiritual intelligence and workplace satisfaction for employees.
