Opis: This Master’s Thesis engages in research of Donald Trump’s presidential rhetoric from the perspective of evaluative framing in rhetoric. The analysis stems from Jim A. Kuypers’ theory of framing from a rhetorical perspective and J.R. Martin and P.R.R. White’s theory of language evaluation. The corpus for analysis consists of three speeches delivered by President Trump in 2017; these speeches are Inaugural Address, Remarks by President Trump on the Administration’s National Security Strategy (“America First Speech”), and Ohio Rally Speech 2017. The theoretical part consists of presenting the theory of framing as a rhetorical perspective, followed by short introduction of the theory of language evaluation. Donald Trump’s rhetoric style and characteristics are also included separately. The empirical part presents the analysis of the corpus. The research consists of two parts; the first part presents the analysis of subjects and objects and how are they framed. Furthermore, this part also detects which frames are present in the discourse. The second part consist of a discussion of results and an analysis of detected evaluative frames. It has been established that Trump’s addresses frame the President’s persona into a saviour-like figure, which offers powerful protection, security and restoration from the decay the previous administrations, supposedly, caused.

DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF ADVERTISEMENTS IN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRYAndreja Ferk

Opis: The language of automotive advertising has to be effective, special, innovative and creative. Advertisers use convincing language to awake the desire to buy the advertised product. In advertisements both language with the emotive power and visual components make an impact on the consumer.
Theoretical foundation of this work consists of two literary sources. The first one is a work written by Guy Cook: The Discourse of Advertising, which provides some insight in advertising as discourse. The second work is Martin and White’s Language of Evaluation, Appraisal in English which contributed to the theoretical explanation of evaluative language.
The empirical part investigates advertising as discourse, different elements of context and the language of advertisements through appraisal framework.

Opis: In his paper, the author points to the well-known fact that the key obstacle to quality improvement in many traditional teacher education institutions is the prevailing philosophy which gives priority to traditional academic disciplines and specialist subject knowledge at the expense of practical and professional knowledge that teachers need. He then presents some of the findings of his research, a rational end empirical evaluation of the study programme for future English language teachers at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor in which he investigated, among other things, the beliefs of the academic staff about the role of theory and practice in the curriculum and, specifically, their beliefs about the relevance of their respective subjects (academic disciplines) for the programme as such. The findings suggest that many of the academic staff, while formally recognising the role of practical knowledge for the profession of the teacher, show little awareness of the purposes of contemporary teacher education and hold rather idealised views about the relevance oftheir respective subjects (academic disciplines) for the study programme as such. For comparison, some findings of an empirical study conducted among students are also given.
