2. Public attitudes towards artificial intelligence and its applicationsTomaž Gjergjek, 2025, magistrsko delo Opis: In this master’s thesis, we researched how people perceive artificial intelligence (AI) and the factors that shape their attitudes. Understanding public attitudes toward AI is crucial for ensuring its responsible development and deployment, aligning technological progress with societal expectations, and addressing ethical and social concerns.
The primary goal of this study was to gain a comprehensive understanding of how the public forms attitudes toward AI and how these are influenced by perceived threats, societal benefits, and trust in institutions involved in AI development. The theoretical part reviewed the literature on the foundations of attitudes and on public perceptions of artificial intelligence, providing an essential framework for the empirical analysis.
In the empirical part, a survey was conducted to explore public attitudes toward AI. Respondents were asked about their perceptions of AI as a potential threat, its societal benefits, their level of trust in institutions and companies responsible for AI, and their overall stance toward the technology. The results revealed that individuals who perceive AI as a threat to their jobs or privacy tend to hold significantly more negative attitudes. In contrast, perceived societal benefits and institutional trust did not show a statistically significant impact on overall attitudes toward AI.
These findings highlight that personal concerns play a greater role than broader societal considerations or institutional trust. They also underline the importance of addressing individual fears and enhancing transparency in the development and deployment of AI technologies. Although the study faces limitations, such as a non-representative sample and reliance on self-reported survey data, it provides important insights into the complexity of public attitudes toward AI.
Future research should include longitudinal and cross-cultural studies, as well as a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, to capture the dynamic and multifaceted nature of public perceptions. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how AI is perceived and emphasizes the need for a responsible, ethical, and socially sensitive approach to its integration into society. 3. Digitalization of higher education : students’ perspectivesVojko Potočan, Zlatko Nedelko, Maja Rosi, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study examines the use of digitalized educational solutions among students in higher education institutions (HEIs). Drawing upon theories of technology, digitalization, and education, we analyze the suitability of different digitalization solutions for students in HEIs. Educational organizations that apply different digitalized technologies provide customizable platforms for authoring and disseminating multimedia-rich e-education and smart education. However, pedagogical practices indicate several gaps between the level of HEI digitalization achieved and its suitability for HEI participants. Thus, we analyze the state of various digitalized technologies in HEIs and their suitability for meeting students’ expectations. The results of our research show that students most highly rate modern educational methods such as practical learning supported by access to digitized materials via websites, social networks, and smartphones while assigning a lower rating to the use of classic education, supported by digital textbooks and traditional technologies such as Skype, Zoom, podcasts, and online videos. This study has several theoretical implications, among which is the need to further develop highly digitized materials and purpose-designed digitized solutions for individual areas and specific educational purposes. The practical implications indicate the need to expand the use of website networks, smartphones, and smart table solutions in modern educational practices in HEIs. 5. Sweet, fat and salty: snacks in vending machines in health and social care institutions in SloveniaUrška Rozman, Igor Pravst, Urška Pivk Kupirovič, Urška Blaznik, Primož Kocbek, Sonja Šostar-Turk, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Vending machines in health and social care facilities are often the only possible choice for a quick snack for workers and visitors, in many cases providing unhealthy dietary choices. Our study aimed to analyse the variety and nutritional quality of foods available in vending machines placed in social and health care institution in Slovenia. The available snacks were quantitatively assessed, using traffic light profiling. The model used for nutrient profiling was that of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). Vending machines in 188 institutions were surveyed, resulting in 5625 food-items consisting of 267 unique product labels. Sweet products dominate in vending machines offers (about 70%), while nuts and seeds (8.4%), yoghurts (2.1%), fruits (1.4%) and milk (0.3%) are present in a very small proportion or are not available at all. According to FSANZ, 88.5% of all displayed food items in vending machines can be considered as lower nutritional quality or less healthy products. The authors’ future activities will be focused on ensuring wider availability of healthy dietary choices and on including official guidelines in tender conditions for vending machines in health and social care institutions in Slovenia. 6. Directions for the sustainability of innovative clustering in a countryVito Bobek, Vladislav Streltsov, Tatjana Horvat, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper presents potential improvements through utilizing the cyclical nature of clusters by human capital, technology, policies, and management. A historical review of the formation and sustainable development of clusters in the US, Europe, Japan, China, and other regions is carried out to achieve this. The aim was to identify and assess the prominent occurrence cases, the central institutional actors, the indicators of their innovative activity, and the schematics of successful cluster management. The theory section covers current classification methods and typology of innovation-territorial economic associations. Consequently, a regression analysis model is produced to identify the potential dominant success factors in implementing the innovation policy of the most successful innovative clusters. Comments on the influence of these predictors on the competitiveness and level of innovative development of the 50 inspected countries follow. As a result of qualitative and quantitative analysis, an overview of the best world practice, the new vision, and its priorities are proposed to improve the efficiency at the level of management structures of innovation clusters. 7. Multilevel analysis of COVID-19 vaccination intention : the moderating role of economic and cultural country characteristicsMonika Lamot, Andrej Kirbiš, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Predictors of COVID-19 (coronavirus) vaccination have been extensively researched; however, the contextual factors contributing to understanding vaccination intention remain largely unexplored. The present study aimed to investigate the moderating role of economic development (Gross domestic product - GDP per capita), economic inequality (Gini index), the perceived corruption index and Hofstede’s measurements of cultural values—index of individualism/collectivism and power distance index—in the relationship between determinants of satisfaction with the healthcare system, trust in political institutions, conspiracy beliefs and COVID-19 vaccination intention. Methods: A multilevel modelling approach was employed on a sample of approximately 51 000 individuals nested within 26 countries. Data were drawn from the European Social Survey Round 10. The model examined the effect of individual- and country-level predictors and their interaction on vaccination intention. Results: Satisfaction with the healthcare system had a stronger positive effect on intention to get vaccinated in countries with lower perceived corruption and more individualistic countries. Trust in political institutions had a stronger positive effect on vaccination intention in countries with higher economic development and lower perceived corruption, while a negative effect of conspiracy beliefs on vaccination intention was stronger in countries with lower economic development, higher perceived corruption and a more collectivistic cultural orientation. Conclusion: Our findings highlight the importance of considering individual and contextual factors when addressing vaccination intention. 9. The impact of EU programmes on financing higher education institutions in Western Balkans - evidence from KosovoGezim Jusufi, Suada Ajdarpašić, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The main goal of this paper is to analyse the financial effects of EU education and research programs on the development of higher education institutions in Western Balkan countries with a special emphasis given to Kosovo. To achieve the set goal, we have used the integrative review method. The Western Balkan HEIs do not have sufficient financial capacity to develop new curricula, new study programmes and research projects. They must therefore make use of EU education and research programmes to cover this gap. The evidence provided in the paper supports the idea that HEIs of the countries with low economic development, political challenges and lack of institutional capabilities will have a difficult time funding such undertakings without the assistance of EU programmes. Thus, these programs have a great impact on financing these educational institutions effectively. Therefore, their impact on the funding of universities in this region should be elaborated. It should be noted that there is little research which elaborate the impact of these programs on funding Western Balkan HEIs. These are key findings of the paper. 10. User violence against employees at nursing homesKatarina Cesar, Liljana Rihter, Špela Selak, Branko Gabrovec, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Purpose:
Earlier research has indicated the high exposure of those working in assisting occupations to workplace violence in Slovenia. The purpose of this study is to complement the research gap in investigating violence within social care and determine the types and extent of workplace violence among all employees in a social care institution, the influence of aggressive behaviour of users on the well-being of employees, and the need for education on dealing with the violence to which employees are being exposed.
Design/Methods/Approach:
Workplace violence was researched quantitatively using a descriptive method. We used a structured survey questionnaire, which was adapted using an existing questionnaire to research the occurrence of violent acts from users against employees at nursing homes and other social care institutions.
Findings:
The nursing home Dom ob Savinji Celje faces user violence against its employees. The most frequent form of violence against employees is verbal abuse (37.7% of respondents) and the least frequent is unwanted conduct of a sexual nature (5.2% of respondents). Workers employed in healthcare face user violence more often than employees in other fields. Employees most often face a certain form of user violence 1-2 times per year. When an employee meets an aggressive user, the most common emotions are fear, helplessness, uncertainty, feeling under threat, and least often a lack of understanding from fellow employees.
Originality/Value:
This study focuses on studying workplace violence within a social care institution and complements extant, yet inadequate scientific findings. Ključne besede: nursing homes, workplace violence, healthcare, social care, social care institutions Objavljeno v DKUM: 18.05.2020; Ogledov: 1113; Prenosov: 57
