3. Tourism demand in Tunisia : a VECM approachDjamal Dekkiche, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This research aimed to study the determinants of tourism demand in Tunisia from 1995 to 2019 with four independent variables: gross domestic product, consumer price index, the real exchange rate, and air transport passengers carried. The research employed the Unit root test, Co-integration test, and Vector Error Correction model (VECM) to examine the variables' short- and long-run relationship dynamics. The results show that co-integrating relations exist among the variables; all independent variables negatively impact tourism demand except Air transport. Depending on the results obtained, policymakers should be aware of the negative effect of the country's political instability on the extent of external tourism demand. In this sense, the government must restore political stability to encourage tourists to visit Tunisia. Future studies should consider factors such as the economy's trade openness and oil prices. 6. Simulated global empty containers repositioning using agent-based modellingAlaa Abdelshafie, Bojan Rupnik, Tomaž Kramberger, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Due to an ever-increasing movement of containers across the globe in line with the economic boom, the trade imbalance and issues related to empty containers have become inevitable. Empty containers accumulated at specific ports cannot only generate profit but also increase the environmental footprint. This research proposes a Maritime Empty Container Reposition Modelling Framework by integrating the agent-based modelling (ABM) paradigm to model the global movements of empty containers. An agent-based maritime logistic empty container redistribution model was developed to help minimize the total relevant costs for empty container movement in the planning horizon. In the system, ports, shipping companies, customers, and empty containers were identified as critical agents. Using simulated annealing (SA), shipping line agents were able to optimise empty container repositioning to determine the best sequence for moving containers. The model was applied to the Asia–Middle East region to simulate global empty containers repositioning in the region. The results comparison shows that the proposed optimised empty container repositioning framework can significantly reduce the shipping line’s costs and make full use of empty containers Ključne besede: maritime industry, empty containers, repositioning, agent-based modelling, simulation, optimisation Objavljeno v DKUM: 02.08.2023; Ogledov: 157; Prenosov: 11

7. The interplay among restaurant SMEs' financial, quality, and managers' perceived business performance : a balanced scorecard approachMarko Kukanja, Tanja Planinc, Anja Žnidaršič, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The present study aims to test a simplified version of the balanced scorecard (BSC) model for restaurant industry SMEs. This study aims to determine if (I) restaurant managers' perceived business performance correlates to SMEs' (II) actual financial and (III) quality performance. A new variable, the manager's perceived business performance, was added in light of the unique characteristics of restaurant SMEs. We hypothesized that all three business perspectives are positively correlated since restaurant managers must have realistic perceptions of SMEs' business performance. A total of 266 questionnaires were obtained from restaurant managers, and 1,330 questionnaires were obtained from restaurant guests. SMEs' official financial reports served as the basis for the analysis of financial data. Exploratory factor analysis and correlation analysis were used to investigate the relationships among the three perspectives. Results indicate that managers' perceptions of business performance are not correlated to SMEs' actual financial performance, and managers have realistic perceptions about the quality of what restaurants offer. Interestingly, SMEs' financial performance is not correlated to guests' perceptions of quality. Introducing a new internal perspective indicates the incoherence among the three BSC perspectives. Furthermore, using selected variables highlights the necessity of raising the managerial perspective in future restaurant SME studies. 9. Assembly line optimization using MTM time standard and simulation modeling—A case studyMatic Breznik, Borut Buchmeister, Nataša Vujica-Herzog, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study presents an approach to solving the assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) using the Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) time standard and simulation software. ALBP is a common problem in manufacturing where a set of tasks with fixed times must be assigned to a series of sequential workstations in order to minimize the total idle time and reduce the assembly cost per product. This study uses MTM, a widely used production process scheduling method, to create a new time analysis of an assembly process that was previously balanced using the Work-Factor method and time study. This literature review shows that there are a lack of combinations of updated time analyses with newer simulation approaches in the current literature, and this was the motivation for the present work. An assembly line simulation was performed using Simio software to evaluate different design options and operating scenarios. The results show that the use of MTM and simulation can help minimize idle time and improve assembly line performance, thereby reducing costs and increasing efficiency. This study shows that the approach of using MTM and simulation is effective in solving ALBP and is a useful tool for manufacturing companies to improve the performance of their assembly lines and reduce costs.
