Health-promoting leadership and leadersʹ listening skills have an impact on the employeesʹ job satisfaction and turnover intention
Anita Dunkl, Borut Milfelner, Simona Šarotar Žižek, Paul Jiménez, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The topic of health-promoting leadership has often been investigated on its impact on health outcomes. However, it is still unclear if healthpromoting leadership has an impact on other well-being parameters at work besides health. Another leadership behavior, the leaders’ listening skills, can benefit well-being parameters at the workplace, such as job satisfaction, which in turn lowers turnover intention. In the present study, we investigate the relationship between health-promoting leadership, the leaders’ listening skills, job satisfaction, and turnover intention to get a clearer picture about the effects of different leadership behaviors on the employees’ well-being. The results of an online-study with 354 Austrian and Slovenian workers showed that both types of leadership behaviors had a direct effect on the employees’ job satisfaction and an indirect effect on turnover intention through job satisfaction. Listening was found to have a stronger direct impact on job satisfaction. The findings indicate that both leadership behaviors are able to support well-being at the workplace.

Person-centred care in association with psychological well-being of older adults
Mateja Lorber, Nataša Mlinar Reljić, Brendan McCormack, Sergej Kmetec, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: As the global population ages, there is an increasing focus on enhancing the psychological well-being of older adults. A key strategy is person-centred care, which emphasises recognising each individual as unique, with their values, needs, and preferences. This study explored older adults’ perceptions of person-centred care and its relationship with their general health and psychological well-being. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 632 participants aged 65 to 96 years (mean age = 73.4 ± 6.7) was conducted, comprising 435 (69%) female and 197 (31%) male participants. Of these, 57% lived in home environments, while 43% resided in retirement homes. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire that included the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), the Warwick–Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), and the Person-Centred Practice Inventory for Service Users (PCPI-SU). Data analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics 28.0, and non-parametric tests such as the Kruskal–Wallis test, Mann–Whitney U test, and Spearman’s correlation were used. Results: Older adults who reported more frequent contact with relatives or loved ones (daily or several times per week) and those residing in home environments perceived significantly higher levels of person-centred care compared to those with less frequent contact and those living in retirement homes (p < 0.001 for both variables). General health varied significantly according to gender (p = 0.009), level of education (p < 0.001), and living environment (p = 0.004), while psychological well-being among older adults showed significant differences based solely on their level of education (p < 0.001). Regression analysis revealed that person-centred care (p = 0.017) and monthly income (p < 0.001) were significantly associated with the psychological well-being of older adults, independent of their living environment. Conclusions: The findings suggest that person-centred care and monthly income significantly predict psychological well-being among older adults. Differences in perceived care and health outcomes were also observed based on gender, education level, and living environment. These results underscore the importance of promoting person-centred care practices, particularly in retirement home settings, to enhance psychological well-being in older adult populations.

What can artificial intelligence do for soil health in agriculture?
Stefan Schweng, Luca Bernardini, Katharina Keiblinger, Peter Kaul, Iztok Fister, Niko Lukač, Javier Del Ser, Andreas Holzinger, 2025, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into soil research presents significant opportunities to advance the understanding, management, and conservation of soil ecosystems. This paper reviews the diverse applications of AI in soil health assessment, predictive modeling of soil properties, and the development of pedotransfer functions within the context of agriculture, emphasizing AI’s advantages over traditional analytical methods. We identify soil organic matter decline, compaction, and biodiversity loss as the most frequently addressed forms of soil degradation. Strong trends include the creation of digital soil maps, particularly for soil organic carbon and chemical properties using remote sensing or easily measurable proxies, as well as the development of decision support systems for crop rotation planning and IoT-based monitoring of soil health and crop performance. While random forest models dominate, support vector machines and neural networks are also widely applied for soil parameter modeling. Our analysis of datasets reveals clear regional biases, with tropical, arid, mild continental, and polar tundra climates remaining underrepresented despite their agricultural relevance. We also highlight gaps in predictor–response combinations for soil property modeling, pointing to promising research avenues such as estimating heavy metal content from soil mineral nitrogen content, microbial biomass, or earthworm abundance. Finally, we provide practical guidelines on data preparation, feature extraction, and model selection. Overall, this study synthesizes recent advances, identifies methodological limitations, and outlines a roadmap for future research, underscoring AI’s transformative potential in soil science.

Ayşe Meriç Yazıcı, Mesut Öztirak, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and purpose: This study aims to reveal the mediating role of organisational culture in the relationship between charismatic leadership and corporate reputation. Methodology: The universe of the study consists of health sector workers working in Istanbul. The analysis of the data obtained from the survey application of the data collected from 405 employees in the five-point Likert scale was carried out with SPSS 26.0 program, and a 95% confidence level was studied. Frequency and percentage statistics for categorical variables, mean, standard deviation and minimum and maximum statistics for numerical variables are given. In the study, the mediation model was tested with Proces Hayes Regression. Non-hierarchical clustering was used to divide the sample into groups using scale scores, and the Chi-square test was used to relate demographic characteristics with the determined groups. Results: According to the analysis results, it was concluded that organisational culture has a mediating role in the effect of charismatic leadership on corporate reputation. The results of the mediation role model are mediated by organisational culture in the effect of charismatic leadership on corporate reputation. According to the clustering analysis results, corporate reputation, charismatic leadership, and organisational culture scores are statistically significant variables for clustering. Conclusion: Together with these results, it is thought that drawing attention to the charismatic leadership behaviours in the health sector and arranging the organisational culture in a way to adapts to it positively affect the corporate reputation perception of the enterprises in line with the proposed solutions and attracts attention will make a positive contribution for both employees and individuals who will prefer health enterprises.

Protection of workers in relation to the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace
Asja Lešnik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on all stages of the employment relationship and analyses whether the current legal framework adequately protects workers from the risks posed by the use of AI in the workplace. The focus is on Slovenian labour law, while also considering relevant international and EU legal sources such as the AI Act, the Directive on Improving Working Conditions in Platform Work, the GDPR, and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. The author addresses legal challenges including discrimination, data protection, privacy, occupational safety and health, and liability for damages. The article finds that while some protective mechanisms already exist, none of the analysed legal sources comprehensively regulate AI use in employment relationships. To ensure effective worker protection, the author argues for either the amendment of current laws or the adoption of dedicated legislation. Since AI will play an even more significant role in Labour Law in the future, it is crucial for the law to adapt in a timely manner to the new challenges posed by AI.

Employers’ efforts to encourage older workers to retire later : a case study of large companies in Slovenia
Vesna Novak, Anja Vidmar, Janja Jerebic, Alenka Brezavšček, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and Purpose: Most developed societies are facing the challenge of an ageing population, which poses several issues, including low labour force participation and financial pressures on the sustainability of the pension system. Countries typically address this situation by raising the retirement age, which often results in dissatisfaction among workers as such decisions are perceived as imposed. Therefore, our work’s main purpose was to research the analysis of implementing measures for managing older workers in companies, which would indirectly influence workers’ decisions to voluntarily choose longer work participation. Design/Methodology/Approach: We designed our study on the assumption that companies that more frequently conduct various analyses of their employees also pay greater attention to measures for managing older workers. In doing so, we focused on the measures that the literature identifies as important for keeping older workers employed for longer. The data source was a study from 2020, which sampled large companies in Slovenia with more than 100 employees. We posed the questions to the person responsible for human resource management in the company. The initial question was whether conducting employee analyses is associated with the implementation of measures focused on education and training, skills transfer, and career development as well as managing the health of older workers. We formulated three main hypotheses, which we confirmed using linear correlation analysis. Results: We found that companies that conduct more frequent analyses of employees’ qualifications and competencies, on average, also more frequently implement measures related to the area of education and training of older workers and to the area of knowledge transfer and career development of older workers. We confirmed statistically significant correlations in general as well as at the level of particular measures. Furthermore, we found that companies that more frequently conduct analyses of the health structure of employees, on average, also more frequently implement measures in the field of managing the health of older workers. We concluded that companies that conduct employee analyses more frequently demonstrate a higher level of commitment to implementing measures for managing older workers, which subsequently impacts their decision to retire later. Conclusion: By conducting employee analyses, companies gain important information that leads to the timely and sufficiently frequent implementation of measures for managing older employees. With empirical data, we have supported our prediction that the frequency of implementing measures through which companies can influence older workers’ decisions for later retirement is associated with the frequent conduction of employee analyses. This article has contributed to our understanding of ageing and the treatment of older workers. It has also highlighted a softer approach to promoting prolonged work engagement for older employees as an alternative to unwanted, legally imposed later retirement.
