From nature to lab : sustainable bacterial cellulose production and modification with synthetic biology

Opis: Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a macromolecule with versatile applications in medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, cosmetology, food and food packaging, ecology, and electronics. Although many bacteria synthesize BC, the most efficient BC producers are certain species of the genera Komagataeibacter and Novacetimonas. These are also food-grade bacteria, simplifying their utilization at industrial facilities. The basic principles of BC synthesis are known from studies of Komagataeibacter xylinus, which became a model species for studying BC at genetic and molecular levels. Cellulose can also be of plant origin, but BC surpasses its purity. Moreover, the laboratory production of BC enables in situ modification into functionalized material with incorporated molecules during its synthesis. The possibility of growing Komagataeibacter and Novacetimonas species on various organic substrates and agricultural and food waste compounds also follows the green and sustainable economy principles. Further intervention into BC synthesis was enabled by genetic engineering tools, subsequently directing it into the field of synthetic biology. This review paper presents the development of the fascinating field of BC synthesis at the molecular level, seeking sustainable ways for its production and its applications towards genetic modifications of bacterial strains for producing novel types of living biomaterials using the flexible metabolic machinery of bacteria.

Cotton woven fabrics as protective polymer materials against solar radiation in the range of 210–1200 nm

Opis: The proposed paper describes the influence of woven fabric constructional parameters (type of weave, relative fabric density) and colouration (obtained by eco-friendly dyeing) on the solar transmittance of cotton woven fabrics in the range of 210-1200 nm. The cotton woven fabrics in their raw state were prepared according to Kienbaum's setting theory, at three levels of relative fabric density and three levels of the weave factor, and then exposed to the dyeing process with natural dyestuffs (beetroot, walnut leaves). After ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared (UV/VIS/IRA) solar transmittance and reflection in the range of 210-1200 nm were recorded, the influence of the fabric construction and colouration were analysed. The guidelines for fabric constructor were proposed. The results show that the walnut-coloured satin samples at the third level of relative fabric density provide the best solar protection in the whole solar spectrum. All the tested eco-friendly dyed fabrics offer good solar protection, while only raw satin fabric at the third level of relative fabric density can be classified as solar protective material with even better protection in IRA region than some coloured samples.

Identifying key activities, artifacts and roles in agile engineering of secure software with hierarchical clustering

Opis: Different activities, artifacts, and roles can be found in the literature on the agile engineering of secure software (AESS). The purpose of this paper is to consolidate them and thus identify key activities, artifacts, and roles that can be employed in AESS. To gain initial sets of activities, artifacts, and roles, the literature was first extensively reviewed. Activities, artifacts, and roles were then cross-evaluated with similarity matrices. Finally, similarity matrices were converted into distance matrices, enabling the use of Ward’s hierarchical clustering method for consolidating activities, artifacts, and roles into clusters. Clusters of activities, artifacts, and roles were then named as key activities, artifacts, and roles. We identified seven key activities (i.e., security auditing, security analysis and testing, security training, security prioritization and monitoring, risk management, security planning and threat modeling; and security requirements engineering), five key artifacts (i.e., security requirement artifacts, security repositories, security reports, security tags, and security policies), and four key roles (i.e., security guru, security developer, penetration tester, and security team) in AESS. The identified key activities, artifacts, and roles can be used by software development teams to improve their software engineering processes in terms of software security.

Agile development of secure software for small and medium-sized enterprises

Opis: Although agile methods gained popularity and became globally widespread, developing secure software with agile methods remains a challenge. Method elements (i.e., roles, activities, and artifacts) that aim to increase software security on one hand can reduce the characteristic agility of agile methods on the other. The overall aim of this paper is to provide small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the means to improve the sustainability of their software development process in terms of software security despite their limitations, such as low capacity and/or financial resources. Although software engineering literature offers various security elements, there is one key research gap that hinders the ability to provide such means. It remains unclear not only how much individual security elements contribute to software security but also how they impact the agility and costs of software development. To address the gap, we identified security elements found in the literature and evaluated them for their impact on software security, agility, and costs in an international study among practitioners. Finally, we developed a novel lightweight approach for evaluating agile methods from a security perspective. The developed approach can help SMEs to adapt their software development to their needs.

Opis: In the midst of industries being reshaped by the emergence of technologies our attention is drawn to the increasing trend of AI and its potential integration, in the work environment. At present, we recognise the swift evolution of technology and the necessity to align with current trends. In this thesis we delve into the world of content creation in tourism social media marketing. We specifically focus on how AI tools, like ChatGPT transform the way we generate content across social media platforms. Through the thesis we highlight the importance of content marketing in boosting brand visibility and engagement. We further explore how generative AI models can create content, enhance personalization and streamline marketing strategies. Additionally, we investigate the newly emerging field of prompt engineering, which focuses on improved interactions with generative AI models. While AI tools offer efficiency, we emphasize the need to strike a balance between automation and human driven creativity. In the evolving landscape of digital marketing, this study contributes insights into leveraging AI-powered content creation for enriching the tourism industry's social media endeavours.

Methodology for test case generation based on sysml specifications : magistrsko delo

Opis: In the rapidly improving system design environment there is a need for automatization of tasks which are manual labor intensive. One of the core principles of systems engineering is verification and validation which is present iteratively throughout the development and on a higher system level at the end. For these verification and validation tasks test cases are used. The goal of this thesis is to extract the required test cases from the already present system models, mainly the test cases from function diagrams which are linear and cannot be extracted through state machine diagrams.

Opis: Diplomsko delo je poslovni načrt podjetja RaMaX Engineering d.o.o., katero se pripravlja na razpis za subvencioniranje gradnje novih proizvodno-skladiščnih prostorov. Namen diplomske naloge je analizirati poslovanje podjetja in ga primerjati z drugimi v isti dejavnosti ter na osnovi rezultatov dokazati, da je podjetje pripravljeno na nadaljnji razvoj. Na podlagi analize dejavnosti orodjarstva in brizganja plastike lahko povzamemo, da podjetje že sedaj posluje nad slovenskim povprečjem in konstantno raste, nova naročila in projekti pa presegajo trenutne proizvodne kapacitete, katere nameravajo z investicijo povečati.
