1. Emotional intelligence of engineering students as basis for more successful learning process for Industry 4.0Slavica Mitrović Veljković, Ana Nešić, Branislav Dudić, Michal Gregus, Milan Delić, Maja Meško, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The purpose of this paper is creating analyses for understanding the personality characteristics related to emotional intelligence and how can this define the development program of personal characteristics in the processes of education for Industry 4.0. The main research goal is to measure dimensions of emotional intelligence in the student population based on a quantitative survey (Emotional Competence Inventory) through dimensions of emotional intelligence: self-regulation, self-awareness, and attitude towards changes. Since the student population was the research target, a group of 338 engineering students was selected. The group was characterized by highly diversified geographic origin, having previously completed school and achieved success. The results show that there are statistically significant differences between all three dimensions of emotional intelligence. Namely, self-regulation and attitude towards changes (both directly and indirectly through self-regulation) are positively affected by self-awareness, while attitude towards changes is positively affected by self-regulation. Developing student emotional potential is one of the most important actuators of business for Industry 4.0, especially in countries with low educational attainment and low social and economic indicators. 2. Can large-language models replace humans in agile effort estimation? Lessons from a controlled experimentLuka Pavlič, Vasilka Saklamaeva, Tina Beranič, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Effort estimation is critical in software engineering to assess the resources needed for development tasks and to enable realistic commitments in agile iterations. This study investigates whether generative AI tools, which are transforming various aspects of software development, can improve effort estimation efficiency. A controlled experiment was conducted in which development teams upgraded an existing information system, with the experimental group using the generative-AI-based tool GitLab Duo for estimation and the control group using conventional methods (e.g., planning poker or analogy-based planning). Results show that while generative-AI-based estimation tools achieved only 16% accuracy—currently insufficient for industry standards—they offered valuable support for task breakdown and iteration planning. Participants noted that a combination of conventional methods and AI-based tools could offer enhanced accuracy and efficiency in future planning. 3. Advanced tools for education : ChatGPT-based learning preparationsDejan Zemljak, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly permeating our daily lives, and the field of education is no exception. Technology already plays a significant role in education, and AI is rapidly advancing. Chatbots, for instance, have been used as a valuable tool in schools for decades. With the emergence of tools like ChatGPT, their usage has expanded even further. The presence of such tools can be highly beneficial for teachers in the educational setting. The study focused on the fact that ChatGPT can serve as an excellent support for teachers in lesson planning. The usefulness of the tool and the challenges that teachers may encounter when using it to create lesson plans were explored. The results of the study, based on the analysis of 58 lesson plans created using ChatGPT, revealed certain limitations. Therefore, it is crucial to empower teachers to make prudent use of this tool. 4. Balancing software and training requirements for information securityDamjan Fujs, Simon Vrhovec, Damjan Vavpotič, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Information security is one of the key areas of consideration to assure reliable and dependable information systems (IS). Achieving an appropriate level of IS security requires concurrent consideration of the technical aspects of IS and the human aspects related to the end users of IS. These aspects can be described in the form of information security requirements. We propose an approach that helps select and balance information security software requirements (iSSR) and information security training requirements (iSTR) according to the information security performance of end users. The approach was tested in an experiment involving 128 IS professionals. The results showed that using the proposed approach helps IS professionals with limited experience in information security make significantly better decisions regarding iSSR and iSTR. 5. Microvascular tissue engineering : a reviewJernej Vajda, Marko Milojević, Uroš Maver, Boštjan Vihar, 2021, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine have come a long way in recent decades, but the lack of functioning vasculature is still a major obstacle preventing the development of thicker, physiologically relevant tissue constructs. A large part of this obstacle lies in the development of the vessels on a microscale%the microvasculature%that are crucial for oxygen and nutrient delivery. In this review, we present the state of the art in the field of microvascular tissue engineering and demonstrate the challenges for future research in various sections of the field. Finally, we illustrate the potential strategies for addressing some of those challenges. 6. Lower secondary school experiences as predictors of career aspirations toward engineering, and production and processing occupationsMateja Ploj Virtič, Andrej Šorgo, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The global demand for technically educated persons is greater than the supply. It is believed that interest and school experience can influence career choice. 624 Slovenian high school students participated in the survey. Exploratory and Confirmatory Factorial Analysis procedures were used to investigate the influence of school and out-of-school-related factors on career aspirations. Predictors of career aspirations in (a) engineering and (b) production and processing occupations in the models were: (1) students’ opinions on technical topics, (2) the content of school subject Technics and Technology; and (3) related classroom experiences. The results of the models showed that career aspirations were explained by out-of-school generated opinions on technical topics and not by school-related factors. Boys are more enthusiastic than girls in their career aspirations for technically oriented occupations. This calls for a fundamental revision of the school subject and the corresponding teaching. 8. Computer science education in ChatGPT Era: experiences from an experiment in a programming course for novice programmersTomaž Kosar, Dragana Ostojić, Yu David Liu, Marjan Mernik, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The use of large language models with chatbots like ChatGPT has become increasingly popular among students, especially in Computer Science education. However, significant debates exist in the education community on the role of ChatGPT in learning. Therefore, it is critical to understand the potential impact of ChatGPT on the learning, engagement, and overall success of students in classrooms. In this empirical study, we report on a controlled experiment with 182 participants in a first-year undergraduate course on object-oriented programming. Our differential study divided students into two groups, one using ChatGPT and the other not using it for practical programming assignments. The study results showed that the students’ performance is not influenced by ChatGPT usage (no statistical significance between groups with a p-value of 0.730), nor are the grading results of practical assignments (p-value 0.760) and midterm exams (p-value 0.856). Our findings from the controlled experiment suggest that it is safe for novice programmers to use ChatGPT if specific measures and adjustments are adopted in the education process.
