"Here and there one seed sprouts, and then it seems we have done something" : nurturing creativity in elementary schools
Saša Poljak Istenič, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The Lisbon Strategy and other documents of the European Union advocating for a knowledge-based society have provided the ground for restructuring schools and changing pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning, focusing on creativity and entrepreneurship. One of the approaches increasingly popular in Slovenia has been Edward de Bono's methodology. The article analyses the benefits, controversies, and potentials of de Bono's "lateral thinking" methods for increasing creativity when introduced to children in elementary school courses and extracurricular activities. Based on the qualitative study, it explores how this "pragmatic" approach to creativity is realised in Slovenian elementary schools, and reflects on teaching creativity in schools as a systemic approach.

Teachers' views of the potential of art therapy in young learners
Ivana Marijanović, Dubravka Kuščević, Ina Reić-Ercegovac, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The aim of the study conducted on 205 class teachers was to explore the extent to which they care about their pupil's artistic expression, how much they know about art therapy and it's potential for young learners, especially when working with abused children and children with developmental disabilities, and their willingness to seek additional knowledge about art therapy. The research results showed no significant difference in art therapy knowledge and its implementation when working with young children according to teachers' age, work experience or education. Still, the assessment of their own knowledge about art therapy and its potential did differ according to age and level of education.

The integration of the subject environmental studies with other subjects : the teachers' views
Vlasta Hus, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The author of the present paper first theoretically describe the didactic concept of integrated lessons, then layout the discussions on integrating lessons in subject Natural and social studies (now Environmental studies) with lessons in Slovene subject. In the empirical part she demonstrate the attitude of teachers in the first triad toward integrated lessons and how the subject Environmental studies is included into this concept. The findings show that the teachers included in the sample had different opinions about integrated lessons. They saw one of the basic advantages of integrated lessons compared to classical ones in the linking of the lessons with the pupils' lives. In the integration of the subject Environmental studies with other subjects, the subject Slovene language plays an important role. Teachers, however, cannot find connections with some of the subjects, despite the fact that they are defined in the national curriculum. The teachers claim they have greatest difficulties in the phase of planning integrated lessons.

Children's literature, teachers and integrative education : theory and school reality
Metka Kordigel Aberšek, Marija Ropič Kop, Vlasta Hus, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper represents the results of a quantitative research performed at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor. The aim of the project was to establish the implementation of the concept of integrative education, which was recommended for the first triennium of elementary education in Slovenia in the 90s. The essence of Slovene integration concept should be the following: focusing on the structure and the process of child's assimilation as well as accommodation in/of the structure, his/her ability to communicate the content of the structure and his/her ability to express the process of changing the structure. Our results show that the majority of teachers follow the recommended curriculum guidelines for integration as the main didactical concept for teaching in the first triennium of elementary school taught as a part of the compulsory Teacher training program - teaching in the first triennium. Nevertheless a big proportion of elementary school teachers (year 1-3) are not entirely aware of the criteria that should be used for integration in the educational process. The same elementary school teachers have difficulties (aware or unaware) with the process of planning and performing the integration concept in the classroom.

5.
The importance of education of future elementary teachers about modern biotechnology issues
Jana Ambrožič-Dolinšek, Andrej Šorgo, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The tremendous development of science and technology has influenced many aspects of our everyday lives, society and environment. A good example of such technology is biotechnology. However, besides its promise, this technology has also raised several controversial issues to which answers are not easily available. With increasing knowledge and applications on one side and controversy on the other the teaching of science is, anything but easy. Development of competencies for these issues, and questions like why, when, and how to integrate modern biotechnology into science education are becoming prominent in the near future. Nowadays, when we are confronted with issues of varying degrees of complexity and importance, it is necessary that teachers at all levels of education have the basic tools to cope with these issues. This is one of reason why we have attempted to establish what kind of knowledge, values and opinions about genetic engineering and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are characteristic for the students, future Elementary Teachers, at three Slovene Faculties of Education. We collected answers of 360 questionnaires from pre-service elementary school teachers and analysed their statements from the field of general and classical genetics, modern biotechnology, legislation and the acceptance of different kind of GMOs. Prospective teachers have some knowledge of general and classical genetics and less knowledge about the use of modern biotechnology. They have concerns and fears about different kind of GMOs, mostly negative attitudes towards different kinds of GMOs, or they hold no strong opinions about them. Microorganisms and plants are generally more acceptable than GM animal. Furthermore, more knowledge does not mean that individual GMOs are more acceptable.

Use of learning media and technology by preparation and realization of music lessons
Janja Črčinovič Rozman, Bojan Kovačič, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper presents the usage of learning media and education technology in music lessons. The aim of the empirical research was to study the learning media usage in preparation and realization of students' presentation in music education lessons. There were 105 students participating, attending 4th year for elementary education at the Faculty of Education at the University of Maribor, Slovenia. The results have shown that during preparation for music lessons and in class students mostly use traditional learning media. When performing in the classroom they mostly use CD player and keyboards, while during preparation for the lesson they use computer, student book, workbook, CD player and keyboards. The time of usage of the media is much longer when preparing lessons as compared to the time needed when performing in the classroom. In spite of a high self-evaluation for using learning media, it wasconcluded that in no case students have used modern technology including computer music programmes and MIDI environment.
