Determination of produced and consumed electricity of a residential building using a graphical user interface

Opis: The primary objective of this paper is to present a graphical user interface for the calculation of electricity produced by a photovoltaic system and electricity consumed by a heat pump. The produced electricity is determined by a multi-year average of measurements of the global and diffuse power density of solar radiation for several places in Slovenia, while consumed electricity is determined based on the required heat for heating a residential building and domestic water. The calculation of produced and consumed electricity is validated by measurements on a real system. The developed graphical user interface enables simple user inputs of the photovoltaic system, heat pump, and the considered residential building, and provides a comprehensive technical analysis for installing both systems at the same location.

Energy source replacement in a thermal power plant

Opis: In Slovenia, approximately one third of electricity is produced in thermal power plants. Electricity prices have risen sharply recently. There are several reasons for this. One of them is the large increase in the price of CO2 coupons that thermal power plants have to buy, since they emit large amounts of greenhouse gas into the environment during the production of electricity. Emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2 are the result of burning fossil fuels, in this case coal. We want to use renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. More than half of Slovenia is covered with forest, and as a result, wood biomass energy represents a great energy potential. One possibility is the use of wood biomass in a classic thermal power plant for the production of electricity. This contribution presents the energy potential of Slovenian forests, before evaluating the replacement of the energy source in the existing coal-based thermal power plant with wood biomass. It has been discovered that there is enough wood biomass in Slovenia, and that all the electricity that is currently produced from coal can be produced from wood biomass. The cost of wood biomass is higher than the cost of coal. By changing the energy source, we save on the purchase of CO2 coupons. Therefore, the use of wood biomass represents an economically justified energy source for the production of electricity.

Public support of solar electricity and its impact on households - prosumers

Opis: Background and Purpose: Currently, the idea of households - prosumers is broadly discussed in public governments, mainly in connection with both the energy security issues and the environmental issues. Therefore, the main goal of this paper is to present new agent model of household - prosumer and to compare two scenarios – “off grid household” and “on grid household”. The additional goal is to evaluate the impact of public support of solar electricity on the economic efficiency of household – prosumer projects (systems). Design/Methodology/Approach: The model is structured as a micro-level agent model, representing one household – prosumer. The model has the following general characteristics: one household with own electricity generation (photovoltaic panels), battery and in case of “on grid household” also connection to the grid. The main goal of the agent is to cover electricity consumption in household with minimal costs. The agent model of prosumer is tested and validated, using the empirical data. Results: The highest level of subsidy has significant impact on the economic indicators of selected scenarios. It causes lower investment costs at the beginning of the project and consequently shorter payback period (3-4 years earlier), positive cumulative cash flow, net present value and IRR in earlier period (approximately 5-10 years earlier, depending on the scenario). Conclusion: We can recommend to the government to continue with current system of subsidies, since it contributes to better economic indicators of particular solar electricity projects. On the other hand, the level of subsidy should be at least the same as in current year 2017, for the purposes of representing the significant part of the investment costs. Low level of subsidy has negligible impact on the economic indicators of households – prosumers projects. The developed agent model is suitable for the evaluation of economic impact of public support on households – prosumers.

Analysis of the spanish electricity market and proposals for future development

Opis: Nowadays the electricity is found in any daily activity, while a state can not develop its economic and social potential without a consolidated electricity system. In sense of the liberalized electrical systems, the figure of an electric market becomes fundamental. This paper shows an overview of the Spanish electricity market, involving its problems and future objectives. Spain as a member of the European Union faces the demands proposed by the European Commission. The European challenge is not an individual challenge for individual member but requires the cooperation of all member states, moving towards an energetically integrated European Union.

The value of "vehicle to grid" integration into warehouse logistics management : case of Slovenian retailer

Opis: Wide-scale application photovoltaic energy sources for electricity production purposes is quite a challenge in Slovenia. The nature of sun is unpredictable, and the Slovenian National Grid has no significant storage opportunities today - if the V2G (vehicle-to-grid) solutions could be competitive in the near future we could prepare for the special circumstances: the batteries of electrically driven forklifts could provide attractive storage functions for renewable electricity storage. The following paper presents an overview of some "environmental background approaches" to show the complexity of this innovative system and to show the value of V2G technology and its application in warehouse logistics.

Green logistics - a solar warehouse concept

Opis: Transportation and logistics are responsible for climate change as they produce greenhouse gases and contribute to the increasing share of fossil fuels, such as oil, in global energy consumption. Supplying the required energy for the transport and logistics sector in an environment-friendly way (based on electric or hydrogen fuels) is one of the main challenges for mankind. Material handling processes have a significant energy demand in warehouse operations, and the application of electricity-driven vehicles and equipment is widely accepted. With the effective use of available green electricity sources - like photovoltaic and wind energy - in the warehouse, we could provide energy for these operations. This article, based on laboratory data, describes a solar-warehouse concept and analyzes the critical parameters, such as energy demand of processes and vehicles, the characteristics of consumption and production, the alternative solutions of electricity storage and fast-charging.

Influence of water scale on thermal flow losses of domestic appliances

Opis: Research results of how the precipitated water scale on heaters of small domestic appliances influences the consumption of electricity are presented. It shows that the majority of water scale samples are composed of aragonite, calcite and dolomite and that those components have an extraordinary low thermal conductivity. Also, the results show that at 2 mm thick deposit, depending on the chemical composition of water scale, the thermal flow is reduced for 10% to 40%; consequently, the consumption of electricity significantly increases.
