Opis: The main focus of this thesis is on the importance of creativity in advertising. In the first part of the thesis we try to define creativity. We look at the different creative thinking methods and provide some techniques for the development of creative ideas. We explain the phases in a creative process, different approaches to creativity, like the Janusian approach, and the usage of creativity templates. Then we try to find an appropriate definition for advertising to separate it from other kind of communications that could be understood as advertising. We provide functional models of advertising in the light of cultural differences and create a connection between creative advertising and successful and effective advertising on the basis of researches. We present the working process in an advertising agency and the people involved in it. In the last part of the thesis we look onto the dialectics of creativity in advertising and explain some of the most creative advertisements and advertising campaigns.

IMPACT OF BALANCED ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES ON BUSINESS PERFORMANCEIvan Malbašić

Opis: Theories of organization and management have offered several concepts and models indicating that organizational values are an important factor in running organizations. A still unexplained question concerns the creation of balanced organizational values which can support the achievement of diversified and even seemingly incompatible goals of today's organizations. To explore balanced organizational values in contemporary business practice, we tested two most frequently used value models, i.e., the Competing Values Framework and Schwartz’s values model, on the sample of the Fortune 100 companies. This dissertation proposes a new model of balanced organizational values named Mission-based model of organizational values which proved itself to be more appropriate for researching balanced values in contemporary business practice than the two most frequently used value models (the Competing Values Framework and Schwartz’s values model), thus supporting the first hypothesis of this dissertation. Given the particularities of balanced organizational values research, an instrument for measuring organizational values was developed to suit the specific needs of this research. In order to test the research hypotheses, a research in 24 Croatian companies was conducted. In each of these companies, between 27 and 50 employees were surveyed giving a total sample size of 874 respondents. The results of statistical analysis performed to test the second hypothesis, as well as the related sub-hypotheses, indicate that the degree of imbalance of organizational values has no significant effect on the higher level of organizational commitment. The same applies to the two separate components of organizational commitment—affective and normative. However, the existence of medium-sized negative correlation between the degree of imbalance of organizational values and continuance component of organizational commitment was determined. The testing results of the third hypothesis, as well as the related sub-hypotheses, indicate that organizations with balanced organizational values are, in general, more effective than organizations with imbalanced values. Moreover, this correlation was found not only for the overall level of organizational effectiveness, but also for the most perspectives of organizational effectiveness based on the Balanced Scorecard approach. To conclude, this dissertation contributes to a better understanding of the role of organizational values in business, especially emphasizing the importance and role of balanced organizational values. Mission-based model of organizational values, developed within this dissertation, follows the findings of the most used models, integrating and upgrading them with new cognitions based on selected scientific knowledge and experience from business practice. And most importantly, this dissertation presents an empirical confirmation of the importance of balancing organizational values as one of the preconditions for successful business.

Opis: Despite the fact that maintenance of array of machinery and equipment is often considered as one of the backup processes or operative functions, its reliable and safe performance is extremely important for every day-to-day routine work, especially operations related to logistics. The latter is interdisciplinary professional and scientific activity which combines variety of operations and subsystems, including the maintenance, which is the subject of research in this paper. It is important to bear in mind that any object invented or fabricated by man needs maintenance. It is simply impossible to discuss comprehensive and quality logistics without considering the function of maintenance, i.e. providing reliable function of logistic machinery and equipment that is overall equipment effectiveness.

INFORMACIJSKI SISTEM ZA NADZOR STROJEV ZA RAZREZ ŽICEDamjan Praznik

Opis: Diplomska naloga obravnava uvedbo informacijskega sistema za nadzor strojev za razrez žice v podjetju Cablex-T, d. o. o. Trenutno stanje v gospodarstvu je takšno, da morajo podjetja maksimalno izkoristiti vsak del proizvodnje, ki ima še mogoče kaj rezerv, da lahko ohranjajo globalno konkurenčnost. V našem podjetju želimo z različnimi analitičnimi kazalniki, pridobljenimi neposredno iz avtomatiziranih strojev in deloma iz trenutnega proizvodnega informacijskega sistema, izvajati analize proizvodnje. Tako bomo spremljali izkoriščenost in učinkovitost proizvodnega procesa v podjetju ter s tem prispevali k boljši kakovosti dela in zniževanju stroškov. Začetek diplomskega dela obsega razlago osnovnih pojmov informacijskih sistemov in jih teoretično predstavi. V nadaljevanju je predstavljeno podjetje Cablex–T, d. o. o., sledi opis obstoječega stanja informacijskih sistemov v podjetju. V zadnjem sklopu osrednjega dela diplomskega dela je opisana realizacija projekta in prikazano delovanje v produkcijskem okolju. V zaključku diplomske naloge je podana ocena učinkov prenovljenega procesa, podane pa so tudi smernice za projekt v prihodnosti.

Video surveillance system and its impact on crime : case study of BarcelonaMarina Aščić

Opis: Video surveillance system as an urban safety measure is nowadays a growing phenomenon in most European countries. Cameras seem to play an important role in crime prevention strategies at the local and national level. Arguments for setting up video surveillance on streets are more or less the same – to prevent, detect and deter crime. The purpose of this prevention strategy is clear but there is still one part that remains unanswered – what are the effects, if there are any?
Studies showed that, in overall, there is little evidence of positive impacts of video surveillance system. In general, a significant crime drop, which could be attributed to video surveillance, has been shown in car-related crimes (e.g. pilot study of the City of Surrey in 2009). The latter should be comprehended with caution, because the authors report that the results are in strong correlation with the methods applied in the process of evaluation (e.g. study in the case of Malaga). Many studies have implemented the same (common) methodological approach, which seems to be inappropriate when it comes to evaluation of the efficiency of cameras – especially non vehicle-related crimes (e.g. personal crimes, vandalism, pickpocketing, etc.), which represent the target group for crime reduction in the City of Barcelona.
Therefore, this paper will highlight the importance of assessing the efficiency of video surveillance systems. The main aim is to re-conceptualize a model used for measuring efficiency and application of results in case of video surveillance. The cornerstone of the model is based on thorough examination and transformation of indicators (e.g. physical layout, social environment, legal basis, tehnical input, control), which could influence potential crime decrease. Another objective is to clarify ambiguous concepts and aspects of system’s applications. As this is a case study, our main goal is to examine system opportunities and possibilities in Barcelona. The study is focused on legal basis, current research and practical implementations. With all this in mind this paper will attempt to create a research model for measuring the efficiency that could be applied to the city of Barcelona.

Merjenje vpliva oskrbe delovnih mest na produktivnost v podjetjih znotraj predelovalne panogeGrega Kostanjšek

Opis: Logistika na delovnih mestih in oskrba delovnih mest sta dve izmed glavnih podpornih funkcij realizacije procesa proizvodnje. Različni avtorji se strinjajo da so proizvodni procesi in logistične storitve med seboj povezani in večinoma celo nerazdružljivi. Namen magistrskega dela je podati način, kako se lotiti raziskovanja deleža vpliva oskrbe delovnih mest na produktivnost z uporabo metodologije zajema podatkov in matematičnih modelov za izračun vpliva oskrbe. Vpliv oskrbe delovnih mest na različnih, v praksi priznanih vrstah produktivnosti (OEE, SRP in TRP), smo tako na podlagi matematičnih modelov, ki smo jih v magistrski nalogi definirali in metodologije zajema podatkov razvite z naše strani, merili na praktičnih proizvodnih primerih znotraj podjetij v predelovalni panogi. Na tak način smo realizirali cilj magistrskega dela in prišli celo do konkretnih zaključkov o vplivu oskrbe na produktivnost.

Opis: After the fall of the Berlin wall, the public administrations in Central and Eastern European countries have had to adapt to an enormous number of changes in a relatively short time. Their civil servants are still facing a constantly changing regulatory framework which needs implementation and enforcement, as well as new demands from the growing private sector and the citizens. These challenges can only be met if the civil servants are highly qualified and constantly updating their qualifications. A sound system of in-service training is therefore crucial to keep the public servants on equal footing with the rapidly changing environment. The research presented in this paper analyzed the practices of training evaluation as an information feedback in a branch of Slovene state administration. We analyzed the attitudes of employees towards evaluation with the assumption that there probably are notable differences between the attitudes of public servants depending on their demographic qualities. The results of the research, that 414 public servants have participated in, show that the position in the hierarchy has the strongest influence on their attitude towards evaluation. Empirical data also show that most of the employees are willing to participate in a continuous and objective training evaluation, but the leading public servants are less involved in the evaluation than expected.

Markov analysis of studentsʼ performance and academic progress in higher educationAlenka Brezavšček

Opis: Background: The students’ progression towards completing their higher education degrees possesses stochastic characteristics, and can therefore be modelled as an absorbing Markov chain. Such application would have a high practical value and offer great opportunities for implementation in practice.
Objectives: The aim of the paper is to develop a stochastic model for estimation and continuous monitoring of various quality and effectiveness indicators of a given higher education study programme.
Method: The study programme is modelled by a finite Markov chain with five transient and two absorbing states. The probability transition matrix is constructed. The quantitative characteristics of the absorbing Markov chain, like the expected time until absorption and the probabilities of absorption, are used to determine chosen indicators of the programme.
Results: The model is applied to investigate the pattern of students’ enrolment and their academic performance in a Slovenian higher education institution. Based on the students’ intake records, the transition matrix was developed considering eight consecutive academic seasons from 2008/09 until 2016/17. The students’ progression towards the next stage of the study programme was estimated. The expected time that a student spends at a particular stage as well as the expected duration of the study is determined. The graduation and withdrawal probabilities were obtained. Besides, a prediction on the students’ enrolment for the next three academic years was made. The results were interpreted and discussed.
Conclusion: The analysis presented is applicable for all higher education stakeholders. It is especially useful for a higher education institution’s managers seeing that it provides useful information to plan improvements regarding the quality and effectiveness of their study programmes to achieve better position in the educational market.
