Sustainability engineering education
Peter Glavič, 2006, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: University sustainability education programmes in several European countries and the US have been compared to find common characteristics of the curricula in environmental science and engineering programmes. In particular, chemical engineering and applied chemistry departments have been focused here. Small, innovative European countries (Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland) have been in fore front. In bigger countries (France, Great Britain, Spain, and the US) programmes from some of the top 100 universities in Europe and the Americas have been considered, three from each country and seven from the US. The frequency of the courses in various groups and typical course titles are shown within each group. Evolution from pollution prevention courses to sustainability subjects is observed. The most employed textbooks are also provided.

InpPro training environment and model based working in construction
Nenad Čuš Babič, Danijel Rebolj, Thomas Olofsson, Sebastian Schumacher, 2009, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: InPro project is European initiative which is developing a model based and collaborative way of working in early design phase in construction. To support project goals and facilitate the industrial transformation and industrial technology take-up, the project implemented tools and developed curricula and materials for training and education of management, architects, engineers, and construction workers, as well as university students. The paper presents training environment architecture with BIM laboratory that was developed to support training on model based work practices and enhancement of hands-on skills. Development process, technical solutions and experiences are described. Content of training courses and curricula is based on experiences from live project demonstrations and use cases. The paper presents one of the answers that address the problem of insufficient skills in construction industry that prevent adoption of novel methods of working and technology.

The role of computer-aided chemical engineering education within the european Bologna three- cycle study system
Zdravko Kravanja, Jiri Klemeš, 2011, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Universities around Europe are currently adopting the new Bologna three-cycle study system and most of Chemical Engineering departments have already developed new study programs accordingly. In this respect, two main questions have been posed in order to reorganize current chemical engineering study programs: i) which skills and knowledge, common to all chemical engineers, should not be ignored whilst developing new chemical engineer curricula, and ii) which are the other chemical engineering topics, engineering fields, and nonengineering knowledge necessary for engineers to manage those problems of specific current and future (bio)chemical and process related industries. One of the aims of this presentation is to discuss basic learning outcomes, and recommended topics common to all chemical engineers, especially relating to those process systems engineering aspects to be embedded within new study programs requiring the use of computer-aided methods and tools during chemicalengineering education. The uses for these methods and tools will be discussed shortly, among them the development of new computer-aided methods and tools, multimedia internet-based teaching and learning programs, and cyberinfrastrucure-based virtual libraries.

Rapid control prototyping using MATLAB/Simulink and a DSP-based motor controller
Darko Hercog, Karel Jezernik, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A rapid control prototyping (RCP) system, based on commercially available software and custom in-house developed hardware is presented. An RCP system successfully combines the well-known simulation program MATLAB/Simulink and the custom DSP-based floating point motor controller. An RCP system provides smooth and fast transition from off-line simulation in Simulink to real-time operation on the embedded motor controller. On-the-fly parameter tuning and data visualization are provided in addition to rapid code generation. The presented solution represents a powerful, versatile and portable RCP system especially suitable for educational processes as well as motor control research. This article is supplemented by an example of cascade DC motor control.

What are the key elements of a sustainable university?
Rebeka Lukman, Peter Glavič, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Nowadays, the principles of sustainable development are becoming increasingly important and universities are acting as agents in promoting these principles within society. In the future, universities will inevitably play crucial role in propagating these principles. This paper highlights important documents and discusses definitions of the term education for sustainable development. Elements, based on continuous feedback loop (Deming spiral) are discussed, in order to incorporate sustainability principles into university activities. The University of Maribor has been used as a case study to test the effectiveness of the proposed integration of sustainable development principles.

Practical work in biology, chemistry and physics at lower secondary and general upper secondary schools in Slovenia
Andrej Šorgo, Andreja Špernjak, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Syllabi in the science subjects, biology, chemistry and physics at lower and general upper secondary school are compared in the light of their underlying philosophies, goals, objectives and recognized importance in science teaching. Even though all syllabi were prepared within the same framework, great differences among syllabi concerning practical work are evident. More importance is given to practical work in the syllabi of chemistry and physics, where it is recognized as a basic method, while in the biology syllabus the construction of concepts is valued much higher.

Bridge over troubled water : (a bit on contemporary art, a lot on art education and maybe something on society)
Tomaž Zupančič, 2012, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci (vabljeno predavanje)

Opis: Who should be blamed for the gap between contemporary visual art and the society? Certainly this is not art, irrespective of how strange could be at the first sight. Contemporary art education should build the bridge over troubled water of incomprehension between contemporary visual culture and the society. According to Arthur Efland the main purpose of art education in a post-modern era is to widen and deepen our understanding of the cultural landscape we inhabit. Today's art education involves contemporary art into classroom by using the same methods, attitudes, principles that determine and are characteristic for contemporary art. It stresses teacher's descending the pedestal, the diversity of comprehending, reading artworks and other principles. An artist who is critical of Society sees as a creator, not a destroyer. Contemporary art education tries to do its best and step toward contemporary art, enjoy it and permit it to mirror and reflect the other, sometimes the dark side of ourselves.
