2. Motherhood gap and employer discrimination : a qualitative investigation in the German contextYvonne Ziegler, Regine Graml, Uli Vincenzo, Kristine Khachatryan, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Motherhood penalty has often been considered the base for the wage gap and the glass ceiling phenomena. It represents a delicate topic in gender equality since its effects tend to persist over medium to long time periods and its validity holds in most countries. The study has been designed to investigate the specific contribution of employer discrimination to the overall motherhood penalty in socioeconomic contexts characterized by the archetype of the “male breadwinner model”, which has been further exacerbated by the recent Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: The employer discrimination phenomenon has often been treated as a black box, since longitudinal data and panel regression modelling were unsuitable to assess the magnitude of the effect of this variable on the overall motherhood penalty. For this study, we addressed this gap by focusing on employer discrimination in the specific context of Germany. The work is based on data generated from a survey conducted among 2,130 working mothers and it is presented as a qualitative content analysis. Results: Our qualitative angle on the employer discrimination phenomenon confirmed previous quantitative investigations. Firstly, the employer attitude toward working mothers conformed to the “second shift” hypothesis, with highly skilled mothers in managerial roles in particular experiencing the largest motherhood gap in our sample. Secondly, we found confirmation for the theory of human capital, with working mothers seeing their career progression come to a halt or temporary slowdown, and pending salary increases not implemented as originally planned. Finally, we found employer discrimination taking various forms, the most frequent being a mismatch between skills level of the working mothers and the suggested new role post parental leave. Conclusion: Our study confirms the previous academic investigations on the topic discussing the antecedents of the motherhood gap, namely the “second shift” hypothesis and the work-effort hypothesis. Ultimately, employers seem to trigger, voluntarily or not, certain career choices for working mothers (e.g., “mother-friendly” arrangements) which cause the motherhood gap to increase, and thus further reinforce the traditional male breadwinner model. 3. Electromechanical behavior of Afyonkarahisar clay under varying stress and moisture conditionsAhmet Raif Boğa, Süleyman Gücek, Bojan Žlender, Tamara Bračko, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Clay is a widely used material with unique properties that vary depending on water content and applied pressure. In this study, the electromechanical behavior of clay samples from Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, is investigated by examining the relationship between electrical resistivity, water content, and mechanical loading under uniaxial pressure. The samples with a water content of 10%, 20%, and 30% were tested using a uniaxial loading machine in accordance with ASTM D 2216 and the Turkish standard TS 1900-1. The analysis included measurements of stress, deformation, and electrical conductivity of the soil. A comparative assessment of samples with varying water content revealed that at low moisture levels (10%), the specific electrical resistivity initially decreases due to soil compaction and reduced porosity. However, as stress increases further, resistivity rises significantly as microcracks begin to develop, disrupting conductive pathways. In contrast, at higher water contents (20% and 30%), resistivity consistently decreases with increasing stress, while conductivity increases markedly. This indicates that at elevated saturation levels, the presence of water facilitates charge carrier mobility through ionic conduction, resulting in lower resistivity and higher conductivity. Comparisons with previous studies on clays such as bentonite and kaolinite reveal similar qualitative trends, although differences in the rate of resistivity change suggest a distinct mineralogical influence in Afyonkarahisar clay. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the geotechnical behavior of this regional clay and supports more accurate performance predictions in engineering and construction applications. 5. Thematic exploration of Slovenia’s path to independence in Slovenian Scopus-indexed history journals : a bibliometric and sociometric analysisDavid Hazemali, Mateja Matjašič Friš, Andrej Naterer, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This article explores how Slovenian history journals have portrayed Slovenia’s path to independence. The analysis of 3,759 articles and other journal contributions from 12 Scopus-indexed journals, using select digital humanities tools and methods, reveals that themes concerning Slovenia’s path to independence, though less frequent overall, exhibit a dynamic pattern of regular occurrence, influenced by commemorations and special issues of journals. This suggests growing scholarly interest over time. The analysis identified four key thematic groups: Socio-cultural, Political, Religious, and Yugoslavia themes. Furthermore, metadata analysis indicates a balanced distribution of male and female first authors and equitable thematic accessibility across publication languages. These findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of how Slovenian Scopus-indexed history journals engage with this critical topic. 6. Teaching mathematically promising students : insights from classroom practiceAlenka Lipovec, Jasmina Ferme, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: This chapter explores how future primary school teachers engage with mathematically promising students. The study analysed 40 records from student teachers' practical training, focusing on their experiences working with at least one mathematically promising pupil. The findings highlight key characteristics of mathematically promising students, including their proficiency in mathematical operations, ability to handle complex tasks, and intrinsic motivation. Future teachers employed a range of approaches, such as personalized teaching, supplementary activities, and problem-solving tasks. While many future teachers recognized the need for adaptive strategies, only half engaged students in problem-based or divergent thinking tasks. This limited use of advanced pedagogical methods indicates a need for further training to enhance instructional practices for mathematically promising students. These findings contribute to understanding the challenges and opportunities in educating mathematically gifted learners. 7. Investigating the effectiveness of endogenous and exogenous drivers of the sustainability (re)orientation of family SMEs in Slovenia : qualitative content analysis approachMojca Duh, Andreja Primec, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Large proportions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are family controlled and play an important role not only in the development of many national economies, but also have great potential to reduce negative effects of human activities on the natural environment and society. This important role of family SMEs has been recognized by the European Union (EU) which has integrated them in its legislative frameworks. The main question addressed in our research is whether family SMEs integrate sustainability concerns into their strategic and operative decisions as required by the EU legislative frameworks. We designed our research with the purpose to broaden our understanding of sustainability (re)orientation of family SMEs and fill the gap in the existing literature on family businesses’ sustainability. We applied a qualitative case study research method where sustainability (re)orientation of 26 family SMEs was explored. The qualitative content analysis was used in the process of analysing data. Theoretically and empirically based cognitions on endogenous and exogenous drivers of the family businesses’ sustainability (re)orientation were applied in interpretation of the research results. Our findings show the low level of sustainability (re)orientation of most of the investigated Slovenian family SMEs. The exogenous drivers have stronger effect on sustainability (re)orientation of family SMEs than endogenous drivers. 8. The effects of hedgerows shading on soil temperature and gravimetric soil water contentAndreja Borec, Tina Lešnik, Tadeja Kraner Šumenjak, Mateja Muršec, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study sets out to examine the effects of hedgerow shading on soil physical properties, specifically soil gravimetric water content and soil temperature. Analyses of both soil parameters were conducted at two locations with different shade proportion.
The aim of the study was to address the links between hedgerow shading and basic physical soil properties which could be significant both for agricultural production and for ecological processes in agroecosystems. At both locations, soil samples and measurements were taken at different distances from hedgerow and in different time intervals. Diurnal shading variation at certain distances from the hedgerow on Location 1 and 2 was calculated with the software toll for Arboriculturists. At Location 1 shading is consistently high throughout the year, ranging from 76 to 100%. In contrast, shading at Location 2 varies from 1 to 25%.
The results reveal that hedgerows at Location 1, do not have a statistically significant impact on gravimetric soil water content and soil temperature across the entire plot surface. Additionally, the percentage of shading is only marginally decreases with distance.
Conversely, Location 2 exhibits an increase in soil temperature and a slight but (non-significant) decrease in soil gravimetric water content as the distance from the hedgerow increases., The total mean shading at Location 2 is considerably lower compared to
Location 1, and the shading percentage declines more at the distance from the hedgerow increases. Overall, lower soil temperatures and higher gravimetric soil water content where observed at the more shaded Location 1. The research outcomes are helpful in
agricultural production planning as well as in the evaluation of hedgerows for the needs of agricultural policy. Ključne besede: soil water content, soil temperature, hedgerow, sunlight Objavljeno v DKUM: 11.04.2025; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 6
