Do managers have enough quality information for decision-making
Tomaž Kramberger, Bojan Rosi, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Modern complexity of management is associated with important decision making, confronting a great number of useless in- formation. Selection of information - the choice of only quality, i.e. essential ones, is a big problem in managerial decision- making. Implementation of systemic approach i.e. systemic thinking can help dealing with it. It is known that decision-making based only on intuition is insufficient, especially nowadays, in the time of global business. Therefore, managers have to operate with adequate knowledge capital. It is synergetic composition of inborn talents, feelings, abilities as well as gained knowledge and experiences. DNT put this capital knowledge into function of management decision- making, thus easier and holistic information management needed for quality and efficient and successful problem solving. It enables managers to be creative, co-operative and interdisciplinary. It opens possibilities for combination of theory and practice in the decision making processes, as presented in our contribution. Quality, holistic management decision making, create competitive advantages. It can be proved by a practical example of de- cision making about preventive measures in the winter time (roads gritting and ploughing). Great importance of quality, timely and enough holistic information is presented with the model of Short Term Road Ice Prediction, which gives information for quality decision making.

The examination of factors relating to the leadership style of nursing leaders in hospitals
Mateja Lorber, Sonja Treven, Damijan Mumel, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Theories often describe leadership with different classifications, based on personality and behaviour, and have been used to establish the traits and behaviours that determine an effective leadership style. We used the quantitative methodology to investigate the determinants of the leadership style among nursing leaders in Slovene hospitals. Based on the results, we determined that demographic characteristics such as gender, age, length of employment, and level of education do not affect the choice of the leadership style. Internal organizational characteristics such as job position, emotional intelligence, communication, personal characteristics, and the decision-making process are positively associated with the leadership style. Personal characteristics are considered important when it comes to using specific leadership styles, regardless of the choice of the leadership style, which also depends on the situation and external influences.

An application of analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and sensitivity analysis for maintenance policy selection
Damjan Maletič, Matjaž Maletič, Viktor Lovrenčič, Basim Al-Najjar, Boštjan Gomišček, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to apply an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for the evaluation/selection of maintenance policy. Methodology/Approach: The paper adopts a case study approach of selecting most appropriate maintenance policy in the case of Slovenian paper mill company. Several steps of the AHP method are used in order to structure the decision-making process. Five possible alternatives are considered: failure based maintenance, preventive maintenance, total productive maintenance, reliability centered maintenance and total quality maintenance. Findings: This paper proposes a framework for maintenance policy selection based on the AHP methodology. The framework was applied to select the most appropriate maintenance policy in a paper mill company. The results suggest that total quality maintenance is the most suitable concept for a paper machine. By performing a sensitivity analysis, it was revealed that the final outcome remained stable in all cases when the weights of the main criteria were increased for 25 percent. Originality/value: The paper contributes to the literature by providing a framework for decision-making process regarding the maintenance policy selection. In addition, this paper utilizes an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart for performing a consistency test. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis also presents an important implication of this study.

Creative thinking and decision-making processes in EFL creative writing
Katja Težak, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Creativity has been discussed, observed and researched for hundreds of years in the fields of psychology and philosophy - from the ancient notion of the inspired genius, all the way to modern psychologists trying to define creativity and prove its effects. Creativity has recently become a buzzword in EFL teaching practices. We try to stimulate creative thinking in the classroom, but possibly forget to observe the processes within it. The article discusses definitions of creativity and presents a qualitative study on the decision-making processes within EFL creative writing and its connections to students' language learning. The qualitative study was conducted with two 3rd-year bachelor English students who were asked to plan and write a short story in English while doing a think-aloud protocol. The data were transcribed and coded in order to observe emerging categories in the students' reasoning for plot and language use decisions.

Environmental management of business processes
Vesna Čančer, 2000, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Since the decision-makers in enterprises will accept the goals of environmental management only if they are motivated enough, comprehensible and useful tools should be generated to support environmentally oriented business decision- making. For that reason, a general optimisation model of the multiphase business process is presented in this paper. This model includes the possibilities for an integrated approach to environmental protection so that it can be applied as a scenario by the business process simulation for the evaluation of environmentally oriented business decisions on business performance. Furthermore, development and application possibilities of the presented model are introduced. Some measures of resource efficiency are developed using the presented optimisation model.

Standardization of business decision-making
Vojko Potočan, 2000, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Enterprise as a business system (BS) assures its own existence and development by a high quality of its business. Its business results can be considerably improved, if the BS creates its system of the standard decision-making processes (DM), which provides for a high quality of business DM and its methodological uniformity in different BS's. Within the standardisation, we establish both a standardised research methodology and a standardisation of contents, and develop a system of standardised DM processes in the BS. We uniform the DM by both a holistic methodological and a partial contents standardisation. We define it on the basis of our holistic investigation into it, which includes the institutional, functional, and factors aspects. These factors are defined and distributed in the fields of DM and both the general and the special standard systems of DM factors are developed. We study the DM process thoroughly, while the acquired knowledge on the process is formalised and developed into a cybernetic model. A general system of DM and its corresponding model is created in order to provide for the requisite holism and complexity of DM, as well as the uniformity of its consideration. The selected problem is solved when we complete the standardisation of the DM, which includes the conception of the standard methodology, its application and the development of its standardised manner.

Perceived gender equality in managerial positions in organizations
Polona Tominc, Urban Šebjan, Karin Širec, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and Purpose: This research aims to achieve two main objectives: to investigate differences between male and female managers regarding the perceived gender equality in organizations and to analyze the gender differences in relationships among the perceived gender equality, the perceived satisfaction with employment position and career, the perceived satisfaction with work, and the perceived work-family conflict. Design/Methodology/Approach: The sample of research includes 82 managers in Slovenian organizations. In first stage, we analyzed with t-test differences between male and female regarding perceived gender equality in decision-making positions. In the next step we developed the conceptual models and used structural equational modeling (SEM), and analyzed differences between constructs in two conceptual models. Results: The research results show that female managers perceive gender equality in organizations in general to be significantly lower than males; furthermore, perceived gender equality is positively related to the perceived satisfaction with employment position and career as well as to the perceived satisfaction with work, but both relationships are significantly stronger for female managers. On the other hand female managers seems to cope more efficiently with the perceived work-family conflict since it has significantly different impact on female managers’ perceived satisfaction with work, as compared to the male managers. Conclusion: To achieve more gender equality within organizations and a reduction of the gender gap, the legislative initiatives cannot be successful without appropriate corporate strategy sets, which presents the framework for doing business and determines the internal working culture. The findings offer several policy, as well as business practice-oriented implications.

A decision-making model for controlling logistics costs
Sebastjan Škerlič, Robert Muha, Klavdij Logožar, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A lack of understanding of logistics costs, particularly in terms of their integrity and interdependence, allows for the interests of individual departments within a company, which are not always in line with the common interests of the business process of the company, to take precedence over necessary logistics cost planning. In order to address this problem, we have developed a model that takes into account all the logistical costs within a company and represents an important decision-making tool that can be used by employees at different levels of the organization, covering different business functions. We have tested the model on a specific product in a company that operates in the automotive industry and determined that the model enables us to have greater control over logistics costs and improves the quality of information on logistics costs.
