Factors that determine dependence in daily activities : a cross-sectional study of family practice non-attenders from Slovenia
Tonka Poplas-Susič, Zalika Klemenc-Ketiš, Rok Blagus, Nina Ružić Gorenjec, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: Independence in daily activities is defined as the ability to perform functions related to daily living, i.e. the capacity of living independently in the community with little or no help from others. Objective: We focused on non-attenders as a subgroup of patients whose health status is not well known to family practice teams. Our goal was to estimate the prevalence of dependence and its severity level in the daily activities of patients, and to determine the factors that are associated with the occurrence of dependence. Design: Cross-sectional observational study. Settings and participants: Data was obtained in family medicine settings. Participants in the study were adults living in the community (aged 18 or over) who had not visited their chosen family physician in the last 5 years (non-attenders) and who were able to participate in the study. Through the electronic system, we identified 2,025 non-attenders. Community nurses collected data in the participants' homes. The outcome measure was dependence in daily activities, assessed through eight items: personal hygiene; eating and drinking; mobility; dressing and undressing; urination and defecation; continence; avoiding hazards in the environment; and communication. Results: The final sample consisted of 1,999 patients (98.7% response rate). The mean age was 59.9 (range 20 to 99). Dependence in daily activities was determined in 466 or 23.3% (95% CI: [21.5, 25.2]) of the patients. Older patients (over 60 years), with at least one chronic disease, increased risk of falling, moderate feelings of loneliness and a lower self-assessment of health were statistically significantly more likely to be dependent in their daily activities, according to our multivariate model. Conclusions: A considerable proportion of family practice non-attenders were found to be dependent in daily activities, though at a low level. We identified several factors associated with this dependence. This could help to identify people at risk of being dependent in daily activities in the general adult population, and enable specific interventions that would improve their health status.

Honey, there´s something on my mind --- : adverse consequences of negative and positive work rumination on attention to the partner, and the advantage of talking about it
Julia Schoellbauer, Sara Tement, Christian Korunka, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the contemporary 24/7 working society, the separation of work and private life is increasingly turning into an unrealizable ideal. Ruminating about work outside the work context lets work spill over into private lives and afects the dynamics of workers’ private relationships. Although negative work rumination was linked to couples’ reduced relationship satisfaction, little is known about the mechanism of action and the impact of positive work rumination. Drawing on the load theory of selective attention, we hypothesize that both negative and positive work rumination occupy attentional resources and thus reduce workers’ attention to the partner on the same day. Lower levels of attention to the partner, in turn, should relate to lower levels of both partners’relationship satisfaction. However, sharing the work-related thoughts with the partner might support the resolution of the work issue the worker is ruminating about, which releases attentional resources and thus bufers the negative association between rumination and attention to the partner. We conducted a daily diary study and the fndings based on 579 daily dyadic observations from 42 dualearner couples support the proposed cognitive spillover-crossover mechanism and the bufer mechanism of thought-sharing. We conclude that negative and positive work rumination takes up scarce attentional resources and thus jeopardizes relationship quality. However, sharing thoughts with one’s partner seems to be a useful strategy for couples to maintain or even increase their relationship satisfaction in the light of work rumination.

Development of the web service for grocery store receipt recognition and subsequent analysis of the nutritional value of the products purchased
Pavel Nesterov, 2023, magistrsko delo

Opis: The objective of this study is to tackle the worldwide problem of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). These diseases represent the foremost reason for mortality on a global scale, accounting for approximately 17.9 million deaths annually. Unhealthy eating habits are one of the most frequent causes for CVD in the world and are addressed in various ways, including digital technologies. The goal of this project i`s to develop a web service that enables a non-intrusive way of tracking food consumption and monitoring the dynamics of nutrient intake compared to the traditional "record-every-meal" type of tracking. We followed a design science research approach to develop the web service. The web service employs semantic similarity algorithms and enables human feedback to improve its performance. It will be developed using the Serverless framework and deployed on the AWS platform. Receipt recognition will be performed using AWS Textract, and the nutritional value of the products will be obtained from publicly available databases. This approach aims to create an innovative and user-friendly method for tracking food consumption and nutrient dynamics.

Independence and caregiver preferences among community-dwelling older people in Slovenia : a cross-sectional study
Katarina Galof, Anja Žnidaršič, Zvone Balantič, 2019, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Although Slovenia is becoming an aging society, very little is known about the abilities and needs of home-dwelling older people or their preferences regarding assistance. The aim of the study was to explore the need for assistance in daily activities among older Slovenian people living at home. Older adults aged between 65 and 97 years (N = 358) participated in the crosssectional survey study. A questionnaire that assessed independence in daily activities and assistance in the home environment was developed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a nonparametric test (Wilcoxon signed rank test), and the chi-square test. The results showed that older Slovenians were more independent in activities of daily living (ADLs) than instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). Independence was the highest for using the toilet, feeding, and mobility transfers, and the lowest for bathing. With IADLs, assistance was most often required with shopping and housework; this assistance was usually provided by family members. The provider of assistance was generally compatible with older people’s preferences concerning assistance at home. We found no differences in care preferences between urban and rural settings. Assistance in the home environment was predominantly provided by unpaid helpers, which reflects recent developments in health and social services that put an emphasis on a person’s social network. Due to demographic changes and the decrease in the number of adult children, reliance on close relatives might soon become a challenge. These findings can help policy makers understand older people’s choices and preferences better when planning long-term care.

The function of Zagreb as a factor of the transformation of the greater Zagreb girdle : with a separate commentary on daily migration
Petar Feletar, 2009, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: With an almost monocentric development, the most powerful central functions in Croatia are concentrated in Zagreb. These functions have a powerful influence on the transformation of the area towards which they gravitate. This influence is greatest on the geographic area of the Greater Zagreb girdle area, i.e. Zagreb County. The processes of the transformation of the Greater Zagreb girdle relate above all to the urbanisation and suburbanisation of the area. These processes extend to rural areas in a very spatially differentiated way, depending primarily on the level of development and the spatial distribution of the transport network. Spatial differentiation and the level of urbanisation and suburbanisation in the Zagreb environs are illustrated through an analysis of the intensity and distribution of daily migration in Zagreb and through expressed changes in the spatial distribution of inhabitation. These processes were considered to be in parallel in the period from 1948 to 2001, the period of the most intensive change.

COMPARISON OF NEOLOGISMS USED IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRITISH TABLOIDS
Anja Gril, 2013, diplomsko delo

Opis: Tabloids are a popular media and an important part of British culture and are divided in two categories Red and Black Top British Tabloids. Article writers try daily to get readers attention which they achieve also by creating neologisms. Neologisms are new words that enter a language and are in the case of British Tabloids understandable to readers since they are familiar with their context. Words are formed by different word formational processes where some take place more often than others. In order to understand the formation of words everything from its smallest elements morphemes to its context has to be understood. This research comprised three daily British Tabloids, two Red Top ones, The Sun and Daily Mirror and one Black Top British Tabloid, Daily Express. The presence of neologisms in article titles was the main interest. Neologisms were counted and analysed. Context, meaning, usefulness, morphemic structure and word-formational processes were analysed for all neologisms. The results have shown that neologisms are a regular part of British Tabloid language. They appear in different contexts but most often in the one that involves the most sensationalism, this is showbiz. Presence of neologisms is often emphasized by some tolls. New words are often formed of celebrity names and nicknames. Red Top British Tabloids use neologisms more often than The Black Top British Tabloids that tend to be more serious and less sensational. Nearly all neologisms found were nonce words, meaning that they were created for the single purpose only. New phrases were often formed by putting a word in a new context and therefore creating a new meaning. In terms of Grice’s theory of conversational implicature we found out that titles often flout the maxims of quantity and manner for a title can only be understood after reading the whole article. In the process of word formation conversion, compounding, derivation, clipping and blending take place more often than root creation and reduplication.
