Analytical hierarchy process as a tool for selecting and evaluating projects

Opis: This paper explains the reasons for selecting the right project to conduct business in various organisations. It presents several methods for evaluating and selecting projects. A special focus is on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method that is becoming increasingly important tool in different decision-making situations. We have used this method in project management anddeveloped a project evaluation and selecting process. We have also developed a simple application in MS Excel that helps with calculating projectsć total priority grade. This tool helps us with simulating project importance based on changes in perception of the criteria.

Multiperiod investment models for the gradual reconstruction of chemical processes

Opis: A multiperiod mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model is presented for planning an optimal investment policy for the gradual retrofit of chemical plants over a specified time frame. This approach can be applied when the available funds are insufficient to perform the optimal reconstruction at once. Through gradual improvements, the process progressively approaches its optimum with considerably lower requirements for new capital whilst still exhibiting an attractive increase in economic performance. In the proposed multiperiod problem for gradual retrofit, certain amounts of capital enter into the periods for the gradual increase of equipment, in order to improve the performance of the process, e.g. increase in conversion or energy recovery. This capital may arise from internal sources of the company or can be borrowed. The financial benefits resulting from the improvements at the end of the periods can be reinvested for additional reconstruction over the next periods. In this way, self-sustained capital generation for future reconstruction is achieved, and any additional funds required minimized. The objective function of the proposed problem is formulated as the net present worth of the gradually retrofitted system. This enables several techno-economic analyses to be performed. The proposed multiperiod investment strategies are illustrated by an investment planning example for the retrofit of a heat-exchanger network.

Product development through multi-criteria analysis

Opis: The trend regarding the development of sanitary fittings is forecasted by the use of a developed model of multi-criteria analysis. In this analysis a multi-dimensional space is used, which enables the establishment of a time argument in comparison to product parameters. The establishment of product parameters is achieved by means of internal company information and market needs. In this way it is possible to establish an innovative environment for the development of new products. This paper indicates various ways of dealing with product development, on the basis of which the method of multi-criteria analysis for establishing future trends in product development is acquired.

Analysis of product development on large-scale production with multi-criteria approach

Opis: The multi-criteria (MC) method is applied to the development of a large-scale product in the case of mid-price range washing machines using MC approach. The concept represents the method for developing a new product in the production process. The development of a large-scale product on the basis of MC analysis provides more accurate forecasting of the most important parameters in the centrefold of a multidimensional (MD) character in the way of customer demands, and important production and development restrictions areset in this MD environment with aid of MC analysis. The production parameters are identified and through this, there is a possibility of reducing production costs. A forecasting method of production demands as possible result is powerful tool for achieving strategically and concurrent advantage.

A Multi-criteria assesment of tourist farm service quality

Opis: Farm tourism is a significant means of supplementing farmer's incomes. This paper presents a methodology for ranking tourist farms by using a multi-criteria model based on the qualitative multi-criteria modeling methodology, DEX, to assess service quality. The software tool DEXi was used to achieve this end. The model was then applied to seven tourist farms with data derived from questionnaires completed by tourist farm operators and guests. The results are shown as service quality assessments for individual farms. The potential of the model for assessing the farms is demonstrated with the aim of providing a comprehensive explantation and justification of the assessment technique. It also indicates potential improvements that farms can make through "what-if" analysis and visualisation. Despite limitations, such as use of qualitative data only, the approach is proposed as being both appropriate and advantageous when compared with other means of ranking enterprises.

The multiple criteria assessment of social responsibility in organizations

Opis: The assessment of social responsibility (SR) in organizations requires a hierarchy of requisitely holistic factors and indicators. This paper introduces the development of measuring instrument for this multidimensional problem. Differently from using factor analysis based on principal component analysis extraction method, it presents the use of exploratory factor analysis(EFA) to develop the multiple criteria model for the assessment of SR.It also discusses several approaches for the weights determination: because considering factor loadings of the indicators obtained via EFA does not tend to differentiate between the levels of importance, the SMARTER method based on ordinal scale was used in criteria weighting. It proposes the solutions for measuring local alternativesʼ values with respect to indicators by using value functions. Application possibilities of the results of the multiple criteria assessment of SR are illustrated and discussed via a real-life case of organizations in Slovenia.

Multi-criteria assessment of vegetable production business alternatives

Opis: Purpose: Organic and integrated production of vegetables are the two most common production systems in Slovenia. The study analyzed two production systems with different cultures as alternatives with purpose to find the most appropriate variants. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study based on the development and integration of developed specific technological- economic simulation models for the production of vegetables (salad, growing peppers, salad cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, round and cherry tomato) in greenhouse and multi-criteria decision analysis. The methodology of the study based on the DEX methodology and the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) of organic (ECO) and integrated production (IP) in greenhouse. Results: The evaluation results show that both cultivation methods of commercially attractive vegetables in greenhouse are variable. In the case of integrated production, the assessment of multi-criteria decision analysis EC and DEXi showed that salad (Donertie F1) proved to be the best possible alternative. In the case of organic production, the multi-criteria analysis assessment of pickling cucumbers (Harmony F1) is the best possible business alternative. Conclusion: For the further production planning process by decision maker is the ranking with Expert Choice (EC) more useful and precise, while the DEX evaluations are more descriptive.
