1. Communicating the climate crisis : stories in the classroomNastja Prajnč Kacijan, Bernarda Leva, Barbara Majcenovič Kline, David Hazemali, Tjaša Mohar, Katja Plemenitaš, Tomaž Onič, Kirsten Hempkin, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: As the climate crisis escalates, educators find themselves frequently having to engage with this issue in a classroom context. A significant contribution that educators, especially language teachers, can make is connected to communicating about environmental questions and helping learners develop the critical skills and competences to engage with such questions fully. In this contribution, we present a series of tasks drawing upon the medium of stories – both fiction and non-fiction, for younger and older learners – which are designed to develop a number of key competences: enhance vocabulary in English relating to climate issues; develop awareness of the key themes regarding these issues; increase learners' critical thinking (regarding the use of language specifically) concerning information available on climate change and related issues. 2. Degrowth - a transcendence of sensate cultural mentality? P. Sorokin and his theory of social change as a strategy towards socio-ecological transformationRudi Klanjšek, 2025, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: There are essentially two fundamental models that explain patterns of social change: the linear model, based on evolutionary theory, and the cyclical model, which posits that human societies, much like many other phenomena, undergo recurring cycles of development. As linear models of “eternal progress,” rooted in the Enlightenment project, have come to dominate interpretations of human history and social transformation, the relevance of cyclical models warrants renewed examination. This study focuses on the cyclical model of social change developed by Pitirim Sorokin, evaluating the concept of degrowth as an indicator of the “progressive disintegration of sensate culture, society, and man,” as well as a sign of the “emergence and gradual growth of the first seeds of a new idealistic/ideational sociocultural order” (Sorokin, 1957, Preface). Drawing on Sorokin’s framework and its derived predictions, the study assesses a range of proposals and strategies aimed at transforming the dominant growth-dependent modes of production, living, and communication. Central to this analysis is Jason Hickel’s work Less is More (2020), which serves as a key reference point. 3. A plaidoyer on state bankruptcy : between economic reality and legal impossibilityDejan Bodul, Pavle Jakovac, Marko Tomljanović, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The history of financial crises and their serious consequences have made them a key interest for both academics and policymakers. During periods of economic growth, bankruptcy was mainly viewed as a mechanism to eliminate uncompetitive firms. However, current global economic conditions, including inflation, decreased demand, rising production costs, the energy crisis, and financial collapses in certain markets, have made it difficult for many companies to service their debts. Outdated bankruptcy regulations have worsened the situation. In the context of globalization and the internationalization of business, modernizing bankruptcy laws has become essential. Various international institutions have advocated for reforms, including redefining the concept of state bankruptcy. This paper aims to analyze the role of the state in bankruptcy, focusing not on its role as a commercial creditor or debtor but as a potential subject of bankruptcy itself. 4. From transcultural entanglements to integrated learning experiences? : transcultural museum education at Berlin's museum of islamic artAnnette Lӧseke, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Taking three educational initiatives at the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin as case studies, this paper explores how the museum engages in transcultural museum education. While the exhibition parcours 'Objects in Transfer' highlights the transcultural entanglements of objects, 'Multaka' is a traineeship project preparing refugees from Syria and Iraq to become museum tour guides for Arabic-speaking visitors. 'Tamam', a joint initiative with mosque communities and Muslim associations across Germany, develops collection-centred educational material for young Muslims. The paper explores key findings from an evaluation of the interactive exhibition parcours 'Objects in Transfer' within the context of collaborative initiatives such as 'Multaka' and 'Tamam'. 5. Philosophy of care, feminist care theory and art careMojca Puncer, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Drawing on the epistemological tradition of feminist care theory and care ethics, this article analyzes Boris Groys’s contribution to the philosophy of care in order to highlight the implications of care issues in the context of art, which is an important reference point for both his and my own investigation. After an introductory overview of the problematic and conceptualization of care, I address Groys’s position. I then provide insights into feminist care ethics and the philosophy of the body, care aesthetics and care work, before turning to art care. In a concluding synthesis, I argue for a different philosophy of care in the light of a reorientation of our understanding of care work in general and in the art world in particular. Methodologically, I combine philosophical exegesis and critical theory, referring to the feminist critique of the Western philosophical tradition as expressed in Groys’s work. I remain at the discursive level of the philosophical study of care and its dialog with the broader field of feminist theory and care ethics, including in relation to care work and art care in the contemporary museum economy. 6. Crisis situations among children/adolescents with emotional and behavioural disorders in educationKatja Vrhunc Pfeifer, 2021, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Employees in education, especially in residential treatment centres, face crisis situations as a result of emotional and behavioural problems/disorders of children and adolescents. They most often face various types of violence, self-aggression, use of illicit substances and abuse. Cases of children and adolescents with mental health problems are frequent. Crisis interventions differ with the complexity of the situation, and regardless of the approach, an appropriate relationship is crucial to any solution. The purpose of this article is to present and elaborate the most common crisis situations and some successful interventions in such cases. 7. The behavior of organization in economic crisis : integration, interpretation, and research developmentVojko Potočan, Zlatko Nedelko, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: We investigated the significance of an economic crisis for organizations’ ethical behavior, employees’ unethical behavior, and association. To capture the effect of the “2008’ World economic crisis,” we compared the behaviors of organizations and employees’ unethical behavior during a crisis with their behavior in more favorable circumstances before and after the crisis. We used structural equation modeling to analyze answers collected from 2024 employees in Slovenian organizations between 2006 and 2016. The results showed significant growth of organizational engagement in ethical behavior, despite the crisis in the middle of the observed period. The employees’ unethical behavior was significantly less acceptable in crisis compared to before the crisis, while after the crisis, its acceptability increased again, despite not significant. The aggregate sample revealed a significantly negative influence of employee’s unethical behavior on organizations’ ethical behavior that was not significantly different across the considered periods. The research suggests the need to manage the organization’s ethical behavior in times of economic downturn, like in the present COVID 19. Additionally, managers need to devote more attention to prevent employees’ unethical behavior and its influence on organizations’ ethical behavior. 8. Teachers’ perception of environmental crisis in selected Slovenian regionsAndreja Kozmus, Mateja Pšunder, 2024, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: Attention to the environmental agenda in Slovenia is growing in line with perceived environmental changes and is also being translated into school practice. Teachers are particularly important in educating about and raising awareness of the environmental crisis among young people. Within the framework of the ZELEN.KOM project, among other activities and with multiple respondents, we have identified 204 sets of perceptions of the environmental crisis among teachers, including their concerns about it, and the extent to which they are willing to be educated about it. We were interested in the differences between teachers according to individual variables (gender, age, place of residence and level of education). We found that teachers recognise and are very concerned about environmental issues in Slovenia; overall, there are no significant differences in their responses to the individual variables. In future it would be worthwhile to explore the transition from teachers’ declared views on the environmental crisis to their active, sustainable action. 9. Crisis management and CSR in Slovenian companies : the impact of the COVID-19 pandemicDuško Uršič, Andrej Smogavc Cestar, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The main aim of this article was to outline how the appearance of COVID-19 changed the global competitiveness of Slovenian companies through the lenses of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and crisis management. Based on concepts of CSR and crisis management, we analyzed the responses of companies to ensure their competitiveness in a crisis situation. Two surveys among managers in Slovenian companies were carried out, one in March 2020 (N = 618) and the other in May 2020 (N = 486). Our results showed that internationally oriented companies responded more comprehensively and proactively to the challenges of doing business in the COVID-19 crisis compared to the companies that had operated mainly in the domestic market during this period. The analysis also showed that internationally oriented companies responded to the COVID-19 crisis with more comprehensive measures also using the concept of CSR and crisis management in comparison with companies that, in the time of the pandemic, operated mainly in the domestic market and used fewer principles of CSR and crisis management. The main theoretical implications of this survey are related to CSR development. They emphasize the interdependent importance of experience and impact in international business in connection with the concept of CSR and crisis management in times of COVID-19. Practical implications include proposals to streamline operations to maintain competitiveness and to take advantage of new business opportunities and effects, which are also encouraged through the use of the CSR concept and crisis management. 10. Social media fact-checking: the effects of news literacy and news trust on the intent to verify health-related informationInes Kožuh, Peter Čakš, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The recent health crisis and the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence have caused misinformation on social media to flourish by becoming more sophisticated and challenging to detect. This calls upon fact-checking and questions users’ competencies and attitudes when assessing social media news. Our study provides a model of how fact-checking intent is explained by news literacy and news trust to examine how users behave in the misinformation-prone social media environment. Structural equation modeling was used to examine survey data gathered from social media users. The findings revealed that users’ intent to fact-check information in social media news is explained by (1) news literacy, such as the awareness of various techniques used by creators to depict situations about COVID-19; (2) news trust, in terms of the conviction that the news contains all the essential facts; and (3) intent, such as an aim to check information in multiple pieces of news. The presented findings may aid policymakers and practitioners in developing efficient communication strategies for addressing users less prone to fact-checking. Our contribution offers a new understanding of news literacy as a sufficient tool for combating misinformation, which actively equips users with knowledge and an attitude for social media news fact-checking.
