The implementation of environmentally oriented controlling

Opis: The environmental management mechanism is a set of tools on the impact of economic entities to ensure the consideration of environmental factors at all stages of activity. The basic tools of environmental management are: - environmental assessment and the procedure of evaluation of the impact of activities on the environment; - environmental control; - ecological examination; - environmental audit; - environmental certification; - environmental accounting and reporting; - environmental monitoring; - environmental labelling and advertising. Environmental regulation is carried out at various stages of economic activity. The legal basis of such regulation are Federal Laws "On environmental protection", "On ecological expertise" and other legislative acts.

Application of modern management concepts by Polish companies : analysis of research results

Opis: Our article presents the results of research on the use of modern management concepts in companies from the so-called traditional sectors of the economy in Lesser Poland and Silesia Voivodeships. The study group consists of 125 companies operating in metallurgy- and steel-related sectors such as machinery, coke, mining and energy. Studies have confirmed that the companies surveyed utilise modern management concepts in their activities, although such utilisation is highly diverse (only one company pointed out that it does not utilise any such concepts). The most popular management concepts are controlling and outsourcing. In contrast, Balanced Scorecard and Business Process Reengineering belong to the group of rarely used strategies.

Motor unit characteristics after targeted muscle reinnervation

Opis: Targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) is a surgical procedure used to redirect nerves originally controlling muscles of the amputated limb into remaining muscles above the amputation, to treat phantom limb pain and facilitate prosthetic control. While this procedure effectively establishes robust prosthetic control, there is little knowledge on the behavior and characteristics of the reinnervated motor units. In this study we compared the m. pectoralis of five TMR patients to nine able-bodied controls with respect to motor unit action potential (MUAP) characteristics. We recorded and decomposed high-density surface EMG signals into individual spike trains of motor unit action potentials. In the TMR patients the MUAP surface area normalized to the electrode grid surface (0.25 ± 0.17 and 0.81 ± 0.46, p < 0.001) and the MUAP duration (10.92 ± 3.89 ms and 14.03 ± 3.91 ms, p < 0.01) were smaller for the TMR group than for the controls. The mean MUAP amplitude (0.19 ± 0.11 mV and 0.14 ± 0.06 mV, p = 0.07) was not significantly different between the two groups. Finally, we observed that MUAP surface representation in TMR generally overlapped, and the surface occupied by motor units corresponding to only one motor task was on average smaller than 12% of the electrode surface. These results suggest that smaller MUAP surface areas in TMR patients do not necessarily facilitate prosthetic control due to a high degree of overlap between these areas, and a neural information—based control could lead to improved performance. Based on the results we also infer that the size of the motor units after reinnervation is influenced by the size of the innervating motor neuron.

A Short review of chain controlling systems in livestock production technology

Opis: There is a general agreement that the main reason for domestication was to provide a reliable source of food protein. Wild animals were hunted for thousands of years, killed for meat, wool, fur, and liquid by our predecesors.This one-way relationship between humans and animals was changed much later, during domastication and until know, the men took responsibility for animals and changed and developed different production system and ethical relationship with animals. After Second World War, the governments tried to change so called traditional agriculture to more intensive. Animals have been kept in high concentration and for the continuous production as a consequence,disease control became essential. European Union issued the paper on food safety (White paper on food safety 2000) where the EU commission triedto push forward a framework of legislation for further improvement and to develope more transparent and improved quality standards throughout a food chain from farm to table. This paper reviews a number of recent developments, starting with an integrated quality control system that collecting important data from the animal birth, through to the animal rearing phase to the end (i.e. slaughter). The importance of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is discussed together with their concepts to assure safe animal food production.
