Software and equipment for remote testing of sensors

Opis: An improved approach for remote testing of elements and systems is presented in this article. To ensure high reliability of products, tests must be done in the production phase to detect possible errors in working mode. Because environmental testing involves long-term processes the possibility of remote observation and remote controlling of tests is very useful solution. The concept is to connect the testing chamber with a personal computer, create a reliable driver and control it remotely over the local network or Internet from other client. It is designed for performing tests on wide area of sensors and sensor based systems.

Design of Lyapunov based nonlinear velocity control of electrohydraulic velocity servo systems

Opis: Development of a hydraulically driven process of steel centrifugal die casting industry requires accurate response of position in time. In the frame of preliminary investigations the analysis and control of electrohydraulic velocity servo system is considered in the presence of flow nonlinearities and internal friction. The nonlinear and uncertainty characteristics make the conventional controller not yield to the system high requirements. Two different nonlinear design procedures are employed: feedback linearization and backstepping. It is shown that both these techniques can be successfully used to stabilize any chosen operating point of the system. Additionally, invaluable new insights are gained about the dynamics of the system under consideration. This illustrates that the true potential of constructive nonlinear design lies far beyond the mere task of achieving a desired control objective. All derived results are validated by computer simulation of the nonlinear mathematical model of the system.

Combating Varroa destructor in honeybee colonies using flumethrin or fluvalinate

Opis: Mite mortality in two apiaries, one with 32 and the other with 15 honeybee (Apis mellifera carnica) colonies, was recorded prior to and after flumethrin or fluvalinate treatments and after a control, oxalic-acid application. During the 42- and 51-day pre-treatment periods, the average daily natural mite drop was 0.04 (± 0.04) and 2.82 (± 2.19), respectively, which represents 1.09% (± 1.06) and 3.84% (± 3.04) of the total number of mites found during the experiment. The flumethrin or fluvalinate applications resulted in an average mite mortality at the two apiaries of 214.46 (± 260.02) and 4,098.64 (± 2,508.31). The treatments resulted in a 19.11% (± 14.62) and a 39.28% (± 10.47) reduction in the number of mites in slightly infested colonies and 94.30% (± 4.26) and 96.24% (± 3.14) in highly infested colonies. The difference in treatment efficacy between both apiaries was significant (P < 0.001) and indicates that fluvalinate and flumethrin are highly efficacious in dealing with highly infested honeybee colonies with sealed brood. The importance of effective mite control in colonies with a high level of natural mite mortality is discussed in this study.
