Education of older people for combating their loneliness
Jana Goriup, Branka Čagran, Katja Krošl, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The article discusses education of older people for combating their loneliness, the reasons for it, and its consequences. The current theoretical findings were the reason for the empirical study of the research problem by the authors. In the empirical part, some aspects of the life of older people regarding their residences were compared: among older people living with their relatives, alone, with a partner, or in a retirement home, with special regard to the reasons/causes for residence, and the feeling of loneliness and contacts with relatives. The obtained empirical results showed that older people living alone or in a retirement home are in a worse position compared to those living with relatives or with a partner. The most at risk are older people living alone.

Slovene-English language contact and language change
Nada Šabec, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper focuses on Slovene - English language contact and the potential language change resulting from it. Both the immigrant context (the U.S. and Canada) and Slovenia, where direct and indirect language contact can be observed respectively, are examined from two perspectives: social on the one hand and linguistic on the other. In the case of Slovene Americans and Canadians the ernphasis is on language maintenance and shift, and on the relationship between mother tongue preservation and ethnic awareness. The linguistic section examines different types of bilingual discourse (borrowing, code switching), showing how the Slovene inflectional system in particular is being increasingly generalized, simplified and reduced, and how Slovene word order is gradually beginning to resemble that of English. In the case of Slovenia we are witnessing an unprecedented surge in the influence of English on Slovene, especially in the media (both classic and electronic), advertising, science, and the language of the young. This influence will be discussed on a number of levels, such as lexical, syntactic and intercultural, and illustrated by relevant examples.

Synthesis and characterization of hardened Cu-Fe-Ni-P alloy
Goran Brovč, Goran Dražić, Blaž Karpe, Igor Đorđević, Gorazd Lojen, Borut Kosec, Milan Bizjak, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the manufacturing industry of electrical contacts, the prohibition of the use of toxic metals (Cd, Be), and desire to avoid the alloying with precious metals (Ag) has created a need for new alloys with good electrical conductivity and high mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. As a potentially useful material for this purpose, we have analyzed the continuously cast Cu-Fe-Ni-P alloy in various heat treatment conditions. Sequence of phase transformations during heat treatment was followed by 4 point D.C. electrical resistivity measuring method, and analyzed by scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy. Measurements of Vickers hardness and electrical conductivity after various heat treatment procedures indicate on high potential of Cu-Fe-Ni-P alloys as a material for electrical contacts.

Russian borrowings in the Volga German dialect in Russel County, Kansas
Maria Khramova, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The present paper is based on a field investigation of the Volga German community in Russell County, Kansas. It provides a short overview of linguistic research, conducted on Volga German dialects in Kansas, and further analyses a list of Russian borrowings that was compiled in Russell in 1913. This contribution also addresses the disputable etymology of some words and expressions and discusses the lexical items from the list of 1913 that were retained in the dialect. Analysis of additional sources shows that some words that are traditionally treated as Russian borrowings acquired on the Volga may have been part of speakers’ lexicon prior to emigration and could have been borrowed from other Slavic languages.
