Slovenian economy on the way from independence to catching up average economic development of EU-27
Lučka Lorber, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: During the EU accession process, an intensive process of economic restructuring was taking place in Slovenia that was intended to secure Slovenia's incorporation into the common European market. At the time of adapting the legal and economic order to European standards, everyone was aware of the fact that successful EU spatial integration depends on the achieved economic power that is comparable to the average EU-27 economic growth. Slovenia's economic structure, determined by the GDP structure, is slowly approaching the structure of developed economies with the importance of agriculture and manufacture decreasing, and the importance of services increasing. However, financial and busines services, and technologically demanding sectors are growing too slowly. Structural changes of the Slovene economy have an affect on transformation of geographical space and create a new social-economic gravitational region. Functional and structural economic changes that resulted from social and political changes following Slovenia's newly-gained independence and its transition to market economy have changed the role of Slovenia in the common European economic market. Slovenia is to be found on a key development crossing, moving from an industrial to post industrial society. Slovenia's basic development goal is to exceed the average economic development of the enlarged EU by 2015 to be able to secure and improve social security, faster development in all its regions, and improve the environment. In other words strive for a better quality of life and overall human development.

Contingency factors influencing implementation of physical asset management practices
Damjan Maletič, Matjaž Maletič, Basim Al-Najjar, Katerina Gotzamani, Maria Gianni, Kalinowski, Boštjan Gomišček, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: The purpose of this empirical study is to examine the role of two contingency factors, i.e. uncertainty and competitiveness in relation to physical asset management (PAM) practices as well as to maintenance key performance indicators. The research is based on a premise that PAM, which was defined by risk management practices, performance assessment practices, life cycle management practices, and policy & strategy practices, has become an indispensable element of strategic thinking of asset owners as well as maintenance and asset managers. The purpose of this study is to advance the understanding of how organizations that face high or low level of uncertainty and competitiveness respond in terms of PAM deployment. Methodology/Approach: This study employed a data set based on a large-scale survey among organizations in six European countries (i.e. Slovenia, Poland, Greece, Sweden, Turkey and Slovakia). Data were collected from 138 organizations located in the above-mentioned countries to conduct the study. Findings: The results show that organizations that are faced with high level of uncertainty and competitiveness are more engaged in the deployment of PAM practices. Moreover, results show that when organizations are facing high levels of competitiveness they are using KPIs to a greater extent than organizations under low levels of competitiveness. Originality/value: From a theoretical perspective, this study contributes to the contingency theory by providing empirical evidence whether a context-dependent approach to PAM is needed. The findings also provide insights for managers on how to respond to the competitive pressure as well as how to customize PAM practices in order to adapt to the changes in dynamic organizational environment.

Promoting sustainability of tourism by creative tourism development
Romana Korez-Vide, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this paper we introduce sustainability dimensions of creative tourism and develop a model of sustainable creative tourism. The concepts of culture-based creativity and sustainability as tools for a value-adding impact on cultural tourism and local culture are discussed in the theoretical part of the paper. Our empirical analysis reveals that higher GDP per capita does not necessary correlate with higher competitiveness of an economy: a comparison analysis of Slovenian and Estonian international competitive positions in various domains shows several weaknesses of Slovenian competitiveness and offers an explanation for indispensable systemic view on tourism competitiveness. Our world wide web analysis of the steps made in creative tourism development in both countries indicates Estonian advantage, which could be taken as an example of good practice. Some suggestions for Slovenian policy making with regard to institutional support for culturebased creativity and creative tourism development are made in the final part of the paper.
