Digital marketing communication in developing countries
Visar Rrustemi, Ganimete Podvorica, Gezim Jusufi, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Digital marketing has made significant progress in recent years, in all countries, both developed and developing. Many local and international companies have largely placed their marketing activities in the digital environment. Now, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more important for many companies and consumers to conduct marketing, buying and selling activities through social media. Like companies, consumers are changing their buying behaviors by focusing more on social media, from which they are providing the necessary and sufficient information about all the products and services that are marketed online. This paper is of particular importance because it addresses the issue of digital marketing activities in the Western Balkans region, specifically the behavior of consumers from countries of this region on social media. From the results of the paper it can be concluded that consumers from these countries are quite engaged in social media, where they receive the necessary information for different products and services, follow the activities of different companies, etc.

Internetni memes kot nova oblika komuniciranja
Atena Bošnjak, 2020, diplomsko delo

Opis: The diploma thesis is theoretical and empirical research on Internet memes as a new form of communication. In the beginning, viral communication and the concept of a meme, which originally comes from genetics, are presented. The thesis presents a new communication model, designed to understand the spread of virus information on social networks, and can also be connected to Internet memes. For a better knowledge of the channels through which memes are spread, some websites that are partly or entirely dedicated to such humorous content are presented in the diploma work. The empirical part consists of the methodology and course of the research and later, the results obtained during the analysis. The thesis includes a causal - non - experimental method by which the research questions are answered. The concluding chapter closes with a presentation on the finding.

English and Italian in the Frame of Genre-based Research and Foreign Language Learning
Ivo Fabijanić, 2020

Opis: The publication focuses on English and Italian in the context of genre-based research in foreign language learning, with five contributions focusing on language, namely the position of abbreviations in the Italian business context, the English language in tertiary education using the LanGuide platform, the compilation of the Shakespeare's Dictionary, the attitude of young learners towards the introduction of the first foreign language and the strategies used in translating administrative texts into a minority language. In her contribution, Lenassi discusses the principle of economy in the language usage in business Italian correspondence, and focuses on the similarities and differences in the use of abbreviations. Kompara Lukančič and Fabijanić present a different approach to learning and teaching foreign languages, and they emphasise the role of language acquisition and multilingualism. Kompara Lukančič also discusses the micro- and macrostructure of the Shakespeare’s Dictionary. In his contribution, Smajla discusses the attitudes of Slovenian language learners to the introduction of the first foreign language. In the last part of the monograph Paolucci writes about his study from 2019 in which he examined source and target-oriented strategies in the translation of normative and informative administrative texts for the Italian minority in Slovenia.

Perception of cyber crime in Slovenia
Maja Dimc, Bojan Dobovšek, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: The purpose of this article is to present the results of the pilot research regarding the perception of cybercrime in Slovenia. Design/Methods/Approach: The study focused on the research of the perception of cybercrime among the general public, as well as the members of the law enforcement agencies. Findings: The development of information and communication technologies critically influences all aspects of our lives, and consequently the characteristics of crime have adapted to the new form of operation in the virtual world. Cybercrime is the new way of breaking the law, and in order to implement successful preventive strategies it is of crucial importance to understand the perception of the general public, as well as the perception of the members of law enforcement agencies regarding cybercrime. The pilot study was performed on a smaller group of individuals (approximately half were the representatives of the general public, while the rest were the representatives of law enforcement agencies) in the form of in-depth interviews. The findings of the pilot research were alarming, since the majority of the interviewees greatly differentiate between certain forms of crime performed in the cyberspace as opposed to the same form of crime performed in real life i.e. the act of stealing, piracy in particular, is unacceptable in the real world and at the same time only natural in the virtual world. Furthermore, the pilot research displayed serious lack of awareness regarding different forms of cybercrime among the general public, as well as the members of law enforcement agencies, and consequently also poor understanding of legislation pertinent to cybercrime. Based on the results of the pilot research it is evident that it is of crucial importance to raise the awareness and understanding among the general public and increase the knowledge of the members of law enforcement agencies regarding cybercrime and its consequences in our everyday life. Research limitations/implications: The results are not generalizable due to the small group of interviewees. Consequently, future research will include a larger group of interviewees and will combine both in-depth interviews as well as questionnaires. Practical implications: The article represents a useful source of information for individuals working in this field as well as the general public. Furthermore, it represents the basis for further research of the field. Originality/Value: The article deals with the issue of the perception of cybercrime in Slovenia and exposes the critical issues related to the difference in the perception of a similar act of crime in the real life as opposed to the virtual world.

Rene Slatinjek, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: Communication has evolved through history using different channels, developing language systems, understanding the communication structure and recognizing the difference between syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Language is ever-changing. In the modern era, written communication has evolved into a quick response pace, invoking new properties we can observe, understand and use. The main objective of this M.A. thesis is to investigate the new pragmatic features that have developed in informal written communication. Cross-platform Sense Glove Communications
Klemen Peganc, 2019, diplomsko delo

Opis: In this thesis, we have redesigned the communication protocol for the Sense Glove device, so it works on all major operating systems. This opened new ways to develop applications, which use the device and also increased the interest of developers, who use the operating systems on which the development was not possible before. The device has many use cases, such as Virtual Reality training and different kinds of simulations. We have used open-source wxWidgets and Boost libraries to help us mostly with creating a graphical user interface and the serial/bluetooth communication with the Sense Glove device.

Politeness in Online Discussion Forums: a Comparison Between English and Slovenian
Urška Knehtl, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: The main objective of this master’s thesis is to compare the use of politeness in English and Slovenian and to compare politeness that occurs in the selected topics of online discussion forums. Another objective is to analyse which politeness strategies are applicable in the selected online discussion forums and to determine why some of them are not applicable. The master’s thesis presents an analysis of 4 online discussion forums and 2 specific topics (health, relationships). 20 discussions were chosen for the analysis, which is based on Brown and Levinson’s Politeness Theory (1987). Positive politeness strategies, negative politeness strategies and off-record politeness strategies are determined in the analysis and the findings in English and Slovene forums are compared. The language of online discussion forums, the place of conversational computer-mediated communication, is comparable to oral communication. The findings suggest that the discussions of the online discussion forums therefore offer a great potential to analyse the use of politeness in a language. A comparison of the findings provides an insight into the use of politeness in English and Slovenian in the online discussion forums and the differences between them. The analysis shows that Brown and Levinson’s theory is applicable to both languages, which is not the case for all strategies. Several differences were found in the use of politeness, which is more often used in English.

The Influence of Usernames on the Perception of Gender in Online Communication
Alen Vugrinec, 2018, magistrsko delo

Opis: The aims of this master´s thesis are to determine how certain usernames influence the perception of gender on online communication and to identify possible differences between the language of men and women used in online communication in the form of a forum. The theoretical part discusses at first the internet in general; its origins, how communication came to be on it, the characteristics of internet language and differences between communication in real-life and online. Then we turn our attention to differences between the language of men and women, which can occur in either face-to-face (or written) communication or in online communication in general. The empirical part focuses on the experiment conducted for the purpose of this thesis. This part of the thesis contains the methods of the experiment, the details of it, the analysis of the communication happening on the forum and the analysis of the questionnaires given to the participants of the experiment. This is followed by the discussion of the findings/results and the concluding thoughts. The findings of the study confirm all the hypotheses set in the thesis, i.e.: Hypothesis 1: the majority of the participants will not be able to guess correctly the gender of other participants in conversations with made-up usernames (Discussion 2). Hypothesis 2: there will be differences between the language of men and women in both types of conversations regardless of the type of username used. Hypothesis 3: participants regardless of gender will add more contributions to the forum in conversations with made-up usernames (Discussion 2) because of the anonymity.

The online communication of corporate social responsibility in subsidiaries of multinational companies in Hungary
Richard Szanto, 2018, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and Purpose: Many studies have explored the differences in the management of corporate social responsibility (CSR) of multinational companies across the globe. The main question of the study was, are there differences between CSR practices between home country and host country operations? Design/Methodology/Approach: This study investigates the differences in online CSR communication between global corporate websites and the webpages of local subsidiaries in Hungary. The sample contains 70 multinational companies (MNCs) and their Hungarian subsidiaries. All the subsidiaries of the sample are listed amongst the largest 200 companies (based on turnover) in Hungary. Both the local (Hungarian) and the global internet sites of these MNCs were visited, and pre-defined categories were sought on the corporate websites. The presence/lack of these CSR themes and topics on the websites were recorded. Results: The findings show that online CSR disclosure of the subsidiaries is usually more limited than the global communication. Moreover, distance from the headquarters seems to matter, the farther the headquarters of the MNC is located, the narrower CSR presence on the websites of the local subsidiary can be observed. Conclusion: The paper’s main contribution is to deepen our knowledge about the CSR strategies of the multinational companies across their operations. It was confirmed that their CSR practices significantly differ between the host and home countries.

Professional languages alone do not suffice for successful and socially responsible internal communication between different cultures
Darja Kukovec, Matjaž Mulej, Simona Šarotar Žižek, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Successful internal communication in an intercultural environment depends on the organizational culture, business environment, social responsibility, and leaders’ skills. Thus, internal communication and employee adaptation to changing business environments ask what a successful socially responsible internal communication requires. This contribution discusses theoretical foundations of qualitative research, how the organizational culture can define which direction the organization should chose to attain social responsibility, and how internal communication can improve understanding of professional language and be decisive in a working environment. The generated model offers insights into understanding social responsibility and organizational culture to improve internal communication.
