2. The role of performance and environmental sustainability indicators in hotel competitivenessZorica Đurić, Jasna Potočnik Topler, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Environmental protection and environmental sustainability are becoming increasingly important factors in the hotel business and their competitiveness, in a market that brings numerous benefits. Environmental sustainability is, increasingly, considered one of the most important functions of the hotel business, as well as communication and marketing, which attracts a larger number of guests. Some of the key aspects of hotel environmental sustainability are performance and environmental sustainability indicators, as well as hotel management of environmental performance in order to establish efficiency in that process. The principal question arising is how environmentally sustainable business affects hotel performance, and what are the most important indicators of the environmental hotel business. The aim of this article is to offer an insight into, and analysis of, performance and indicators of the environmental sustainability of hotels through the relevant literature. A case study from Serbia is used to point out the complexity and the significance of these indicators in the hotel business, as well as to emphasise the importance of environmental reports in the case of Serbia. The findings of our study are significant because they help hotel managers identify new opportunities for employing more sustainable processes for saving resources. 3. Does entrepreneurial risk-taking affect the business performance of micro-enterprises? : evidence from Skikda in AlgeriaAyoub Messikh, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: According to several previous studies, entrepreneurial risk-taking is an
important aspect that can lead to prospective business opportunities, hence
improving entrepreneurial outcomes such as enterprise performance. The
main purpose of this paper is to examine the extent and degree of impact of
entrepreneurial risk-taking (ERT) as one of the dimensions of entrepreneurial
mindset on the performance of micro enterprises in Skikda, Algeria. Based on
a self-administered survey questionnaire, data were collected from a random
sample of 142 micro-enterprises in Skikda. The study adopted descriptive,
correlation, and regression analyses to estimate the impact of entrepreneurial
risk-taking. collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social
Sciences (SPSS 22) programme. The findings demonstrate that entrepreneurial
risk-taking significantly affects the performance of micro enterprises in Skikda.
Of the total variance of the performance of micro enterprise’s, 9.2% can be
explained by the variability of entrepreneurial risk-taking. A small percentage
is expected and can partly be explained by the presence of other factors that
affect the performance of these enterprises as well as the negative effects
of the COVID-19 pandemic on the process of economic activity and available
business opportunities worldwide, especially these very small enterprises.
However, the presence of this positive impact calls for a focus on raising the
risk-taking spirit of existing and potential Algerian entrepreneurs, by holding
conferences, forums and entrepreneurial programmes that enhance and
support this characteristic of the entrepreneurial mindset. Ključne besede: risk taking, entrepreneurship, business performance, micro enterprises, Algeria Objavljeno v DKUM: 01.09.2023; Ogledov: 408; Prenosov: 79

4. The influence of human resources competency management on the business success of small and medium enterprisesIva Klepić, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The success of the organization is based on the quality of human resources,
their competencies, motivation, loyalty, and their business results. The basic
aim of this research is to determine whether and to what extent human
resources competency management influences the business success of small
and medium enterprises (SMEs). The empirical research was conducted in
234 SMEs in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in January 2021. An
original questionnaire was created for the survey, which gathered the opinions
of top managers. In the paper, human resources competency management is
viewed as a process consisting of: determining the required competencies,
determining current competencies and the competency gap and undertaking
activities to ensure and develop the necessary competencies. For the
business success of SMEs, business performance was researched through four
perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard (financial, customer, internal business
processes and learning and growth perspective). The research results showed
the correlation between the studied variables and the influence of human
resources competency management on the business success of SMEs
viewed from all four perspectives. The paper includes a comparison with
similar research, limitations and recommendations for future research. The
originality of this work lies in creating an original model of the connection
between human resources competency management and business success
(performance) of SMEs as viewed through four perspectives of the BSC, which
has been empirically tested. Also, no such research has been conducted in
B&H to investigate the influence between the human resources competency
management and the business success of SMEs. Ključne besede: business performance, balanced scorecard, competency management, human resources, small and medium enterprises Objavljeno v DKUM: 19.06.2023; Ogledov: 438; Prenosov: 12

5. K-vertex: a novel model for the cardinality constraints enforcement in graph databases : doctoral dissertationMartina Šestak, 2022, doktorska disertacija Opis: The increasing number of network-shaped domains calls for the use of graph database technology, where there are continuous efforts to develop mechanisms to address domain challenges. Relationships as 'first-class citizens' in graph databases can play an important role in studying the structural and behavioural characteristics of the domain. In this dissertation, we focus on studying the cardinality constraints mechanism, which also exploits the edges of the underlying property graph. The results of our literature review indicate an obvious research gap when it comes to concepts and approaches for specifying and representing complex cardinality constraints for graph databases validated in practice.
To address this gap, we present a novel and comprehensive approach called the k-vertex cardinality constraints model for enforcing higher-order cardinality constraints rules on edges, which capture domain-related business rules of varying complexity. In our formal k-vertex cardinality constraint concept definition, we go beyond simple patterns formed between two nodes and employ more complex structures such as hypernodes, which consist of nodes connected by edges. We formally introduce the concept of k-vertex cardinality constraints and their properties as well as the property graph-based model used for their representation. Our k-vertex model includes the k-vertex cardinality constraint specification by following a pre-defined syntax followed by a visual representation through a property graph-based data model and a set of algorithms for the implementation of basic operations relevant for working with k-vertex cardinality constraints.
In the practical part of the dissertation, we evaluate the applicability of the k-vertex model on use cases by carrying two separate case studies where we present how the model can be implemented on fraud detection and data classification use cases. We build a set of relevant k-vertex cardinality constraints based on real data and explain how each step of our approach is to be done. The results obtained from the case studies prove that the k-vertex model is entirely suitable to represent complex business rules as cardinality constraints and can be used to enforce these cardinality constraints in real-world business scenarios. Next, we analyze the performance efficiency of our model on inserting new edges into graph databases with varying number of edges and outgoing node degree and compare it against the case when there is no cardinality constraints checking. The results of the statistical analysis confirm a stable performance of the k-vertex model on varying datasets when compared against a case with no cardinality constraints checking. The k-vertex model shows no significant performance effect on property graphs with varying complexity and it is able to serve as a cardinality constraints enforcement mechanism without large effects on the database performance. 6. Giving-up management system certification : a potential early warning signal?Milena Alič, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper presents the dynamics in number of top management system certificates (ISO 9001, ISO 14001) focusing on the situation in Slovenia in the last two years when a significant increase of cancelled certificates was noticeable. We studied this phenomenon in order to find out its reasons and effects on the performance of the organizations. Some recognized relations between quality management systems and company performance from literature review were used for setting hypotheses which were analytically proved. We assumed that quitting management system certificates was related to decrease in business performance. Empirical part of our research was based on the data of Slovenian certification bodies and on published annual financial reports of Slovenian organizations. In the survey some characteristics and performance of the organizations which gave up certification were analysed. We came to interesting findings that cancelling certificates was related to decrease in business performance and often even to closing of organizations. The downsizing of the business was increasing through the time. So, 2 years after cancelling certificates only 8% of the organizations still present growth in their income and revenue, besides almost 40% of them quit or would have to quit their business. It was also found out that the business performance after cancellation of the certificates was related to the business performance before it and to the reason for cancellation as well. Two years after cancellation there was a 3-times higher proportion of failed organizations (= 45% of previously non-profitable organizations) among the organizations that had operated at a loss before the cancellation of their certificates, compared to those previously having a profit. Among the claimed reasons for certificate cancellation organizational changes (in 35% of all the organizations losing certificates) and cancellation of certificates by certification bodies (in 41% of these organizations) were the most common ones related to the failure of these organizations. 8. Organising aspects of the levels added organisation (LAO)Duško Uršič, Samo Lubej, 2002, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: How to achieve a more efficient, more successful, and above all more competitive organization in the given environment and equal spare time in everything? One of responses is evidently hidden in the levels added organisation concept, which has already proved its advantages in some domains practice, and now we also try to define and explain them from the organisational and scientific aspect. As briefly presented in this paper, the nucleus is hidden in the evolutionary development of the organisation that adopts innovations, then tests and evaluates them, combines and upgrades them, and consequently it efficiently resolves difficulties of existent organisational concepts. 9. Can a company raise business success by using certain marketing communication activities?Damijan Mumel, Nina Hočevar, Boris Snoj, 2007, drugi znanstveni članki Opis: Companies use different marketing communication activities in order to communicate with their environment. Their decisions to use a specific activity are often the result of past experiences, habits or certain influences. Measurements related to the efficiency of their communication method, as well as the analysis concerning the effect of using a specific kind of marketing communication activity on different business success determinants are usually neglected. In this article, authors provide an analysis of a correlation between the use of a specific marketing communication activity and 13 different business success variables. Based on the research, it could be concluded that the net business result for the accounting period can be influenced by using printed advertisements in newspapers, radio commercials, press conferences, newsletters and sponsorship. Net return on assets showed a positive correlation with printed advertisements in newspapers and press conferences. Printed advertisements in newspapers and radio commercials have proved to influence net sales and, last but not least, authors discovered that the return on equity can be influenced by organizing press conferences and, by using leaflets, companies can expect to raise the net sales growth index.
