Leadership and managerial challenges to ensure agile management as a method to enable business success : a Delphi study of the Slovenian health organisations

Opis: Purpose This study aims to apply the Delphi method to explore the possibilities for implementing agility management concepts in Slovenian health-care organisations. Design/methodology/approach The research is based on a qualitative Delphi study encompassing 15 employees in different Slovenian health-care organisations. Findings Slovenian health-care organisations need to be more agile currently. For this reason, it is necessary to begin with organisational changes and organisational learning concepts to educate employees about the meaning and content of agile processes. It is essential to ensure that accepting employee mistakes and offering help to employees becomes normal practice, and it is necessary to ensure the greater trust of the management towards the employees. Originality/value The research empowers health-care professionals with new management and leadership concepts, such as agile management, sustainable leadership and leadership development methods in health care.

6th International Conference on Technologies & Business Models for Circular Economy : conference proceedings

Opis: The 6th International Conference on Technologies & Business Models for Circular Economy (TBMCE) was organized by the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the University of Maribor in cooperation with Strategic Research and Innovation Partnership – Networks for the transition into circular economy (SRIP – Circular economy), managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Štajerska. The conference was held in Portorož, Slovenia, at the Grand Hotel Bernardin from September 6th to September 8th, 2023. TBMCE 2023 was devoted to presentations of circular economy concepts, technologies and methodologies that contribute to the shift of business entities and society as a whole to a more responsible, circular management of resources. The conference program included a round table Standardization for circular economy – more secure and less complicated closing of material loops, 6 panel discussions, 1 plenary and 3 keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations. The event was under the patronage of Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport and Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development. The Netherlands joined us as a partner country.

Sustainable operations of last mile logistics based on machine learning processes

Opis: The last-mile logistics is regarded as one of the least efficient, most expensive, and polluting part of the entire supply chain and has a significant impact and consequences on sustainable delivery operations. The leading business model in e-commerce called Attended Home Delivery is the most expensive and demanding when a short delivery window is mutually agreed upon with the customer, decreasing possible optimizing flexibility. On the other hand, last-mile logistics is changing as decisions should be made in real time. This paper is focused on the proposed solution of sustainability opportunities in Attended Home Delivery, where we use a new approach to achieve more sustainable deliveries with machine learning forecasts based on real-time data, different dynamic route planning algorithms, tracking logistics events, fleet capacities and other relevant data. The developed model proposes to influence customers to choose a more sustainable delivery time window with important sustainability benefits based on machine learning to predict accurate time windows with real-time data influence. At the same time, better utilization of vehicles, less congestion, and fewer failures at home delivery are achieved. More sustainable routes are selected in the preplanning process due to predicted traffic or other circumstances. Increasing time slots from 2 to 4 h makes it possible to improve travel distance by about 5.5% and decrease cost by 11% if we assume that only 20% of customers agree to larger time slots.

Business IT alignment impact on corporate sustainability

Opis: Business-IT alignment (BITA) has become crucial for effective organisational management in today's interconnected global economy. This article investigates the relationship between BITA and corporate sustainability, exploring how businesses can leverage BITA for sustainable growth and development. The study employs a case research approach in a multinational manufacturing organisation, utilising a mixed methods research (MMR) design. In the quantitative part of the research, the PLS-SEM technique was used to examine the influence of six BITA factors on employees' self-perceived action competence for sustainability (SPACS). This study confirmed that all six BITA factors strongly influence all three SPACS factors. In the qualitative part of the research, semi-structured interviews were used to measure the BITA maturity level of the organisation and the influence of BITA factors on corporate sustainability. Based on quantitative and qualitative research results, it can be confirmed that BITA strongly influences corporate sustainability. Results also confirm that there is no universal approach to BITA and its influence on corporate sustainability. Organisations must focus on all factors of BITA equally to achieve better levels of BITA and ensure its influence on corporate sustainability.

Assertiveness scale as a teamwork aptitude predictor

Opis: Assertiveness has been gaining attention in the research studies in vocational and higher education and in managerial processes. The aim of this study was to examine a relationship between the level of assertiveness and willingness to work in a team, and research to what extent the level of assertiveness can predict the attitudes towards teamwork. The Scale of Assertiveness and a Scale of Attitudes towards Teamwork were applied to the sample of 284 respondents. The results suggest that individuals with higher scores on the Scale of Assertiveness have more positive attitudes towards teamwork, and what is significant is that the research confirmed that individual behaviour in a team structured environment can be improved through personal assertiveness development.

The role of performance and environmental sustainability indicators in hotel competitiveness

Opis: Environmental protection and environmental sustainability are becoming increasingly important factors in the hotel business and their competitiveness, in a market that brings numerous benefits. Environmental sustainability is, increasingly, considered one of the most important functions of the hotel business, as well as communication and marketing, which attracts a larger number of guests. Some of the key aspects of hotel environmental sustainability are performance and environmental sustainability indicators, as well as hotel management of environmental performance in order to establish efficiency in that process. The principal question arising is how environmentally sustainable business affects hotel performance, and what are the most important indicators of the environmental hotel business. The aim of this article is to offer an insight into, and analysis of, performance and indicators of the environmental sustainability of hotels through the relevant literature. A case study from Serbia is used to point out the complexity and the significance of these indicators in the hotel business, as well as to emphasise the importance of environmental reports in the case of Serbia. The findings of our study are significant because they help hotel managers identify new opportunities for employing more sustainable processes for saving resources.

Vpliv kritičnih dejavnikov uspeha na uvedbo ERP rešitve Microsoft Dynamics Business Central

Opis: Podjetja za uspešno poslovanje potrebujejo orodje, ki jim pomaga pri avtomatizaciji in upravljanju njihovih osnovnih poslovnih procesov. To orodje so celovite informacijske rešitve oziroma rešitve ERP. Rešitve ERP pomagajo pri pretoku podatkov med različnimi oddelki podjetja, kot so finance, nabava, prodaja, proizvodnja itd., in ker so podatki shranjeni v skupni bazi podatkov, vsi oddelki vidijo enake podatke, zaradi česar ne more priti do podvajanja podatkov. Rešitve ERP lahko korenito izboljšajo učinkovitost poslovanja podjetja, zato se vse več podjetij odloča za njihovo uvedbo, vendar pa se mnogokrat zgodi, da je uvedba neuspešna. Z namenom, da bi bilo čim manj neuspešnih uvedb rešitev ERP, so bili vpeljani t. i. kritični dejavniki uspeha, ki nam pomagajo oziroma nas vodijo do opredelitve tistega, kar nam največ pomeni. Na te izsledke se nato osredotočimo tudi pri sami uvedbi rešitve ERP. Na začetku magistrskega dela smo se osredotočili na rešitve ERP na splošno, torej opredelili njihove značilnosti in določili najpogostejše module, medsebojno primerjali rešitve ERP, nameščene na lokaciji in v oblaku, opisali arhitekturno rešitev, predstavili ponudnike, njihove prednosti in slabosti ter trende, ki jih lahko pričakujemo v prihodnje. V nadaljevanju smo podrobneje opisali proces uvedbe rešitve ERP, kjer smo predstavili faze in življenjski cikel uvedbe, korake do uspešne uvedbe, metodologije vodenja projektov in pristope pri uvedbi rešitev ERP. V nadaljevanju magistrskega dela smo se osredotočili na kritične dejavnike uspeha. Ker vemo, da so rešitve ERP lahko nameščene na lokaciji ali v oblaku, smo preučili članke z obeh področij. Ker je računalništvo v oblaku razmeroma nova tehnologija, obstaja manj člankov na to temo, zato smo se osredotočili na zgolj enega, medtem ko smo za rešitve ERP, nameščene na lokaciji, preučili sedem člankov. Ker je na trgu mnogo ponudnikov rešitev ERP, smo na koncu magistrskega dela osredotočili na rešitev Business Central. V tem delu smo podrobneje opisali značilnosti rešitve Business Central, njene module in arhitekturo ter proces uvedbe s pomočjo metodologije Sure Step, prav tako smo ugotovili, kateri so kritični dejavniki uspeha, ki pozitivno vplivajo na uspešnost uvedbe rešitev ERP na splošno kot tudi na uspešnost specifične rešitve ERP Business Central.

The impact of serious games in economic and business education: a case of ERP business simulation

Opis: Digitalisation nowadays impacts business environments significantly. Therefore, if higher education wants to educate students properly for a successful career path, the business and economics curriculum must be enriched with innovative teaching approaches covering actual topics, such as, for example, the implementation of the ERPsim business simulation, a representative of serious games. The ERPsim business simulation is based on SAP ERP, and is aimed at teaching ERP concepts. It covers different business processes, and allows students to learn using a hands-on approach, simulating real-life scenarios. The presented research focuses on using an ERPsim business simulation as the introduction to the course. The simulation was implemented to ease the introduction of ERP and IT concepts to the business and economic oriented students. Considering the positive effects of serious games and gamification, our research was formed and focused on knowledge acquisition and future student engagement. We researched whether participation in the introductory simulation results in significant knowledge gain and impacts students’ future course engagement. The data were gathered using a self-assessment questionnaire before and after an introductory simulation. The results were highly positive, confirming many positive aspects of business simulation, among others, significant knowledge increase in the domains of business process and ERP transactions, and in the domain of technical knowledge for SAP ERP. The results confirmed that the introductory simulation is appropriate for introducing ERP concepts to newcomers, and, nevertheless, confirmed the positive impact on their intent on future course engagement.

Testiranje poslovnega modela start-up podjetja

Opis: V današnji digitalni dobi postajajo mobilne aplikacije vse bolj priljubljene, vendar je za njihov uspeh potrebna več kot le odlična ideja, potreben je tudi uspešen poslovni model. Diplomsko delo razišče različne metode za testiranje poslovnega modela, vključno z vitkimi metodologijami, razvojem strank in testiranjem minimalno sposobnih izdelkov. S proučevanjem študij primerov uspešnih novoustanovljenih podjetij za mobilne aplikacije in analizo strategij, ki so jih uporabili za preizkušanje svojih poslovnih modelov, želi diplomsko delo zagotoviti praktične vpoglede podjetnikom, ki želijo ponuditi lastno mobilno aplikacijo. Diplomsko delo tudi identificira pogoste izzive, s katerimi se soočajo start-up podjetja za mobilne aplikacije. Namen diplomskega dela je pomagati podjetnikom pri potrjevanju njihovih idej za zagon mobilnih aplikacij in povečati njihove možnosti za uspeh na konkurenčnem trgu aplikacij.
