1. Fatigue of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) metamaterials – a reviewŽiga Žnidarič, Branko Nečemer, Matej Vesenjak, Srečko Glodež, 2025, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: A review of the fatigue behavior of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) metamaterials with consideration for their fabrication is presented in this paper. The review analyses the most common TPMS geometries used due to their mechanical characteristics. Production methods and the base materials used are presented with the key advantages and drawbacks. Furthermore, the mechanical characteristics of cellular structures with emphasis on TPMS geometries are described. Lastly, the state-of-the-art findings of their fatigue behavior are analyzed and explained. Based on the findings in this article, cellular geometries based on TPMS are superior to conventional cellular structures when comparing their fatigue life. Because of the smooth transitions between struts or surfaces, the stress distribution is much more uniform without stress concentration zones. 2. Attention allocation and gaze behavior while driving: a comparison among young, middle-aged and elderly driversAnamarija Poll, Tomaž Tollazzi, Chiara Gruden, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In 2023, 95.5 million Europeans were aged over 65, falling within the definition of the “elderly population”. According to statistics, this number will rise to 129.8 million by 2050, making Europe the oldest continent in the world. One of the consequences of such growth is a sharp increase in the number of elderly drivers. Although they have more experience, which can positively impact road safety, their performance and health generally decline, limiting some of the physical and mental abilities required for safe vehicle control. The main objective of this research was to shed light on the behavior of elderly drivers by comparing three different drivers’ age groups: young, middle-aged and elderly drivers. Based on analysis of road accidents involving elderly drivers, the road safety situation for elderly drivers in Slovenia was highlighted, a questionnaire was developed to understand how elderly drivers perceive traffic, and an experiment was conducted where 30 volunteers were tested using a driving simulator and eye-tracking glasses. Objective driving and gaze behavior data were obtained, and very different performance was found among the three age groups, with elderly drivers having poorer reaction times and overlooking many elements compared to younger drivers. Influences on and prevention of self-harm behavior among the most at-risk adolescents : study protocol for the SH-MARA prospective longitudinal cohort studyLana Sernec Podnar, Petra Tomažič, Anja Tomašević Kramer, Barbara Plemeniti Tololeski, Gorjan Tasevski, Žiga Rosenstein, Simona Klemenčič, Tadej Battelino, Blaž Vrhovšek, Tadej Lahovnik, Jernej Kovač, Carla Sharp, Barbara Jenko Bizjan, Sašo Karakatič, Maja Drobnič Radobuljac, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background Both suicidal and non-suicidal self-injuring behaviors (NSSI) are common during adolescence In Slovenia, adolescent suicide rates are high, making suicide the leading cause of death in the year 2022 in this age group. These behaviors are influenced by a complex interplay of environmental, psychological, and genetic factors. Previous research has identified risk and protective factors mainly for suicidal behavior in adults, a notable gap in understanding these factors in adolescents remains, especially for NSSI. Notably there is an important lack of effective clinical tools or psychometric assessment methods to reliably assess the risk for either suicidal or NSSI behaviors in acutely hospitalized adolescents. Methods and analysis The proposed study uses a mixed-method observational design consisting of a prospective longitudinal cohort component involving adolescents hospitalized for high risk of DSH, and a cross-sectional comparison with a control group of healthy adolescents recruited from primary care settings. It is aimed at identifying genetic, psychosocial, and clinical factors associated with suicidal behaviors and NSSI in adolescents. The study group is recruited from adolescents aged 12–19, admitted to the Intensive Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit in Ljubljana due to severe self-harm risk. Exclusion criteria include involuntary treatment, acute psychotic disorders, intellectual disability, severe physical or central nervous system illnesses and acute intoxication. The control group comprises adolescents of comparable age, recruited through regular scheduled health check-ups in Slovenia. Exclusion criteria include suicidality, severe mental disorder, a history of self-harm behavior in a first-degree relative, intellectual disability, severe physical or central nervous system illnesses and acute intoxication. 6. Cultural moderators of green product purchase intention : an examination through the lens of the theory of planned behaviorNika Rakuša, Borut Milfelner, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Despite their potential for promoting environmental sustainability, understanding consumer adoption of green products is limited since such behavior is complex, as it may differ from typical purchasing motives and cultural values. Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was used in this study to address the main research problem of how PBC attitudes, subjective norms, environmental (un)concern, and environmental knowledge, influence consumers’ green product purchase intention. It also explores how cultural values moderate these relationships, specifically man-nature orientation and LTO. This study proposes a structural model with multigroup analysis to address the moderating impacts on a sample of 216 respondents participating in an online survey. Results show that attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and environmental knowledge positively influence consumers’ green product purchase intention. The group analysis results imply that the dominant group’s environmental concern negatively impacts purchase intention, while this relationship is not significant in the subordinate group. Also, the influence of subjective norms on purchase intention is significantly stronger in the dominant group. The long-term orientation also moderates the relationship between attitude toward green products and purchase intention. The insights from this research extend the literature in TPB and provide practical implications to marketing managers concerning developing marketing communication strategies, perceived value proposals, and the reputation of green products. 7. Seasonal influenza vaccination uptake among health and medical college students : a discrete choice experimentMonika Lamot, Andrej Kirbiš, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Seasonal influenza is a highly contagious virus posing significant health risks, especially tochildren, pregnant women, and older adults. Despite its crucial role in prevention andreducing severity, vaccination rates among medical and health students, who frequentlyinteract with vulnerable groups, remain low. This study investigates attributes of influenzavaccines that predict vaccination decisions within this population, while also examininghow these preferences vary based on the health literacy levels of the respondents.Between May and June 2024, 239 Slovenian medical and health students completed anonline discrete choice experiment presenting vaccines varying in efficacy, side effects, andadministration site. Preferences were analyzed to identify key attributes. Results showedthat higher efficacy and fewer side effects drove vaccine choice across all disciplines.Medical students favored faculty-based vaccination, whereas nursing and other healthdiscipline students preferred GP offices and NIPH units. Health literacy did not alter theimportance of efficacy and safety, but those with sufficient literacy showed a strongerpreference for GP settings over faculty sites. Campaigns should emphasize vaccine efficacyand the low risk of severe side effects, reassuring that mild reactions are transient.Facilitating GP-based vaccination for nursing and other health discipline students mayfurther improve uptake. 8. Multilevel investigation of leadership prototype perception : political behavior in relation to effectiveness and trustAykut Arslan, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background/Purpose: Empirical evidence suggests that a leader’s political skills may act as a moderator that
might decrease the effect of prototypicality’s impact on trust and on leadership effectiveness. The study investigated leading political skills as second-level regulatory variables in connection to leader effectiveness and trust with the purpose of testing a cross-level moderated mediation model within a traditionally collectivist culture like Turkey in efforts to contextualize and expand understanding of leadership prototype perception.
Methods: A total of 442 service sector employees and 28 executive managers were interviewed. Two surveys in two
separate time periods were conducted. Multilevel path analysis was used to evaluate the hypotheses.
Results: The findings suggest that there is a strong and significant impact of leader prototypicality on leadership
effectiveness and a direct impact on trust. Results indicate that leaders who are trusted by their subordinates are
perceived as more effective in their leadership roles. Lower levels of trust from subordinates are negatively associated with leader effectiveness.
Conclusion: If leaders cannot provide their followers a contextualized sense of empowerment and development,
they are perceived to not provide high levels of emotional trust. Therefore, there is greater need for multilevel contextualized studies taking account of collective, two-sided, embedded experiences within groups. 9. Unveiling polyphenol-protein interactions : a comprehensive computational analysisSamo Lešnik, Marko Jukič, Urban Bren, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Our study investigates polyphenol-protein interactions, analyzing their structural diversity and dynamic behavior. Analysis of the entire Protein Data Bank reveals diverse polyphenolic structures, engaging in various noncovalent interactions with proteins. Interactions observed across crystal structures among diverse polyphenolic classes reveal similarities, underscoring consistent patterns across a spectrum of structural motifs. On the other hand, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of polyphenol-protein complexes unveil dynamic binding patterns, highlighting the influx of water molecules into the binding site and underscoring limitations of static crystal structures. Water-mediated interactions emerge as crucial in polyphenol-protein binding, leading to variable binding patterns observed in MD simulations. Comparison of high- and low-resolution crystal structures as starting points for MD simulations demonstrates their robustness, exhibiting consistent dynamics regardless of the quality of the initial structural data. Additionally, the impact of glycosylation on polyphenol binding is explored, revealing its role in modulating interactions with proteins. In contrast to synthetic drugs, polyphenol binding seems to exhibit heightened flexibility, driven by dynamic water-mediated interactions, which may also facilitate their promiscuous binding. Comprehensive dynamic studies are, therefore essential to understand polyphenol-protein recognition mechanisms. Overall, our study provides novel insights into polyphenol-protein interactions, informing future research for harnessing polyphenolic therapeutic potential through rational drug design. 10. Electromechanical behavior of Afyonkarahisar clay under varying stress and moisture conditionsAhmet Raif Boğa, Süleyman Gücek, Bojan Žlender, Tamara Bračko, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Clay is a widely used material with unique properties that vary depending on water content and applied pressure. In this study, the electromechanical behavior of clay samples from Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, is investigated by examining the relationship between electrical resistivity, water content, and mechanical loading under uniaxial pressure. The samples with a water content of 10%, 20%, and 30% were tested using a uniaxial loading machine in accordance with ASTM D 2216 and the Turkish standard TS 1900-1. The analysis included measurements of stress, deformation, and electrical conductivity of the soil. A comparative assessment of samples with varying water content revealed that at low moisture levels (10%), the specific electrical resistivity initially decreases due to soil compaction and reduced porosity. However, as stress increases further, resistivity rises significantly as microcracks begin to develop, disrupting conductive pathways. In contrast, at higher water contents (20% and 30%), resistivity consistently decreases with increasing stress, while conductivity increases markedly. This indicates that at elevated saturation levels, the presence of water facilitates charge carrier mobility through ionic conduction, resulting in lower resistivity and higher conductivity. Comparisons with previous studies on clays such as bentonite and kaolinite reveal similar qualitative trends, although differences in the rate of resistivity change suggest a distinct mineralogical influence in Afyonkarahisar clay. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the geotechnical behavior of this regional clay and supports more accurate performance predictions in engineering and construction applications.
