rehabilitation process. However, these solutions are usually expensive and, consequently, inaccessible
outside of professional medical institutions. Rapid advances in software development, Internet of
Things (IoT), robotics, and additive manufacturing open up a way to affordable rehabilitation
solutions, even to the general population. Imagine a rehabilitation aid constructed from accessible
software and hardware with local production. Many obstacles exist to using such technology, starting
with the development of unified software for custom-made devices. In this paper, we address
open issues in designing rehabilitation aids by proposing an extensive rehabilitation platform. To
demonstrate our concept, we developed a unique platform, RehabHand. The main idea is to use
domain-specific language and code generation techniques to enable loosely coupled software and
hardware solutions. The main advantage of such separation is support for modular and a higher
abstraction level by enabling therapists to write rehabilitation exercises in natural, domain-specific
terminology and share them with patients. The same platform provides a hardware-independent
part that facilitates the integration of new rehabilitation devices. Experience in implementing
RehabHand with three different rehabilitation devices confirms that such rehabilitation technology
can be developed, and shows that implementing a hardware-independent rehabilitation platform
might not be as challenging as expected. 2. Assistive digital technology to promote quality of life and independent living for older adults through improved self-regulation : ǂa ǂscoping reviewGaja Zager Kocjan, Tanja Špes, Matija Svetina, Nejc Plohl, Urška Smrke, Izidor Mlakar, Bojan Musil, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Digital technologies can be a key component in helping older adults maintain their autonomy and quality of life in their homes and communities. The purpose of this scoping review was to examine the existing literature on the role of assistive digital technologies in promoting a higher quality of life and independent living for older adults by supporting their self-regulation in various aspects of daily living. The review was conducted and reported in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Major electronic databases were searched to identify relevant articles published between 2012 and 2022. A total of 972 articles were identified, of which 19 articles met all inclusion criteria. Results are presented in four categories: (i) types of digital technologies, (ii) quality of life domains, (iii) quality of life benefits, and (iv) technological aspects supporting self-regulation. Our review also showed that successful adoption of assistive technologies depends on older adults’ trust in these technologies and the perceived benefits of technological support. Early involvement of older adults in the development of assistive technologies appears to play an important role in their technological self-efficacy. The limitations of the studies reviewed are discussed, and some general guidelines for future research in this area are suggested. 3. Design of a multimodal hearing systemBernd Tessendorf, Matjaž Debevc, Peter Derleth, Manuela Feilner, Franz Gravenhorst, Daniel Roggen, Thomas Stiefmeier, Gerhard Tröster, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Hearing instruments (HIs) have become context-aware devices that analyze the acoustic environment in order to automatically adapt sound processing to the userʼs current hearing wish. However, in the same acoustic environment an HI user can have different hearing wishes requiring different behaviors from the hearing instrument. In these cases, the audio signal alone contains too littlecontextual information to determine the userʼs hearing wish. Additional modalities to sound can provide the missing information to improve the adaption. In this work, we review additional modalities to sound in HIs and present a prototype of a newly developed wireless multimodal hearing system. The platform takes into account additional sensor modalities such as the userʼs body movement and location. We characterize the system regarding runtime, latency and reliability of the wireless connection, and point out possibilities arising from the novel approach.
