Art portfolios in preschool teachers’ initial education as a means of acquiring professional competences and reflective practice
Marijana Županić Benić, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The study sought to examine the art portfolios of second-year undergraduate students of Early and Preschool Education at the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb and their reflections on their own artwork. The aim was to examine how students experience, reflect on and interpret their creative work process. By reflecting, students acquire deeper understanding of art expression and perfect the ability to plan and evaluate visual art activities for implementation in their future work with children. The results show that students whose reflections on their own artwork through portfolios are more detailed show greater levels of self-awareness, creativity and pedagogical competence.

Student perception of assessment in the teaching and learning process of art education
Bea Tomšič Amon, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper discusses the importance of the learning and teaching process in art education in light of the accepted methods for establishing criteria for evaluating student achievement. The complex experience of art education is difficult to measure based on scales that use ambiguous verbal categories and standardize the image of the student in an activity intended for the opposite: to express what is unique to each individual in an artistic way. Some assessment strategies are presented, as well as a questionnaire with various student opinions about assessment, alongside the factors that influence these opinions.

Reconciling the Other : travelling objects and collaborative teaching
Moe Iezaki, Magdalena Novotná, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A collaborative art education project involving Japan and the Czech Republic focused on the enculturation processes experienced by two teachers and their students, how immersion in visual arts can contribute to cultural understanding and the reconciliation of two pedagogical approaches to art. This project also addressed this reconciliation with the unknowable ‘Other’ through the creation of artwork, ‘travelling objects’ and collaborative teaching. Outcomes include similarities between objects from the two countries and two pedagogical approaches and suggest that participants strived to reconcile the Other, thus creating a spatial and relational intermediate space by dealing with those objects and communicating together.

The creative artistic portfolio and reporting by art education students on their student teaching
Tomaž Zupančič, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The study of art education is characterised by the duality of artistic and pedagogical content. The importance of a high-quality intertwining of both segments is emphasised. Various types of portfolios are mentioned. The study focused on how the artistic portfolio and the reports from art teacher trainee students about their student teaching experience can be connected. An innovative model of instruction for the preparation of the student teaching report was prepared. Using qualitative analysis procedures, it was established that the creative-pedagogic (CP) model had positive effects on student motivation and generated in-depth introspection. The students worked with the principles of contemporary art, such as juxtaposition, symbolism, performance art, body art, and self-portrait (selfie).

The contribution of art education to educational transitions
Wolfgang Weinlich, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main purpose of this conceptual paper is to place selected areas of art education in parallel with educational transition. Thus, transition is associated with aesthetic behaviour and aesthet-ic biography, two notions that may represent two fundamental approaches to art education coined in German / Austrian / Swiss art education theory in recent decades. Both appear to be promising in regard to their potential linkage with transitional education. The study proposes a development in art education that includes and stresses an awareness of transitions; thus, we believe, art education holds great potential to contribute to successful educational transitions throughout early childhood education, kindergarten, school, university and the early phases of professionalization.

Teachers' views of the potential of art therapy in young learners
Ivana Marijanović, Dubravka Kuščević, Ina Reić-Ercegovac, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The aim of the study conducted on 205 class teachers was to explore the extent to which they care about their pupil's artistic expression, how much they know about art therapy and it's potential for young learners, especially when working with abused children and children with developmental disabilities, and their willingness to seek additional knowledge about art therapy. The research results showed no significant difference in art therapy knowledge and its implementation when working with young children according to teachers' age, work experience or education. Still, the assessment of their own knowledge about art therapy and its potential did differ according to age and level of education.

Slovene teachers' attitudes of arts and cultural education in primary school
Olga Denac, Barbara Sicherl-Kafol, Branka Čagran, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Primary school teachers (342 in total) from all over Slovenia were questioned on their attitude towards arts and cultural education. The results of the study show that the teachers were most unanimous in regard to the importance of team planning in educational work in the field of the arts and the importance of cultural education for the life of an individual and society; this was followed by measures for raising the quality of arts and cultural education in primary school and the content of teacher training programs. Statistically significant differences in the teachers’ attitudes occurred with respect to their age and teaching position (class teacher and subject teacher). Unlike their younger colleagues and subject teachers, older teachers and class teachers expressed a more positive view of arts and cultural education.

The influence of non-formal artistic and creative activities in multicultural educational contexts
Fernando Pérez-Martin, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Our schools are becoming more and more multicultural every year. It is no longer uncommon to have in the same classroom students from over a dozen nationalities, with diverse backgrounds, beliefs and ways of seeing the world. This article is an invitation to reflect on the role that non-formal artistic and creative activities can play in multicultural educational settings. To this end, an excerpt from a Case Study carried out in one of Canada%s most multicultural schools is presented, showcasing some of the activities developed there and analysing the positive influences they have in its educational community.
