1. 20th European Meeting on Supercritical Fluids : Book of Abstracts2024 Opis: The 20th European Meeting on Supercritical Fluids (EMSF 2024) was hosted by the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the University of Maribor from 26 May to 29 May 2024 in Maribor, Slovenia. The EMSF 2024 was a joint event of the International Society for the Advancement of Supercritical Fluids (ISASF) and the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) Working Party on High Pressure Technology (WP HPT) Event No. 807. This symposium provided an excellent opportunity for engineers, chemists, physicists, food technologists, and biologists to meet and discuss new ideas, review ongoing challenges, present potential solutions, and identify future issues related to high pressure technologies and supercritical fluids. The aim of the meeting was to deepen connections between researchers, establish new contacts, and promote synergies and partnerships between researchers. The symposium presented the latest advances in high-pressure process technologies that can contribute to the further development of the field. 3. Sustainable Biodegradable Biopolymer-Based Nanoparticles for Healthcare ApplicationsNika Kučuk, Mateja Primožič, Željko Knez, Maja Leitgeb, 2023, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Biopolymeric nanoparticles are gaining importance as nanocarriers for various biomedical applications, enabling long-term and controlled release at the target site. Since they are promising delivery systems for various therapeutic agents and offer advantageous properties such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and stability compared to various toxic metal nanoparticles, we decided to provide an overview on this topic. Therefore, the review focuses on the use of biopolymeric nanoparticles of animal, plant, algal, fungal, and bacterial origin as a sustainable material for potential use as drug delivery systems. A particular focus is on the encapsulation of many different therapeutic agents categorized as bioactive compounds, drugs, antibiotics, and other antimicrobial agents, extracts, and essential oils into protein- and polysaccharide-based nanocarriers. These show promising benefits for human health, especially for successful antimicrobial and anticancer activity. The review article, divided into protein-based and polysaccharide-based biopolymeric nanoparticles and further according to the origin of the biopolymer, enables the reader to select the appropriate biopolymeric nanoparticles more easily for the incorporation of the desired component. The latest research results from the last five years in the field of the successful production of biopolymeric nanoparticles loaded with various therapeutic agents for healthcare applications are included in this review. 6. Design reliable operating food ordering applications with UI/UX design : bachelor's thesisMartina Arsovska, 2023, diplomsko delo Opis: This bachelor's thesis illustrates the design process of two different food ordering mobile applications, ‘LUMA’ and ‘NIJA’. For the designing process we used ‘Figma’, a web-based interface design tool. It is also discussed the significance of UI/UX design and how it influences user engagement and satisfaction. In addition, we emphasized some of the applications key design components, such as logos, typography, colour palettes, as well as how we created and animated them. In this bachelor’s thesis we then reviewed the findings of the survey we conducted to collect input on the designs of the two applications. Acetan and acetan-like polysaccharides: genetics, biosynthesis, structure, and viscoelasticityJanja Trček, Iztok Dogša, Tomaž Accetto, David Stopar, 2021, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Bacteria produce a variety of multifunctional polysaccharides, including structural, intracellular, and extracellular polysaccharides. They are attractive for the industrial sector due to their natural origin, sustainability, biodegradability, low toxicity, stability, unique viscoelastic properties, stable cost, and supply. When incorporated into different matrices, they may control emulsification, stabilization, crystallization, water release, and encapsulation. Acetan is an important extracellular water-soluble polysaccharide produced mainly by bacterial species of the genera Komagataeibacter and Acetobacter. Since its original description in Komagataeibacter xylinus, acetan-like polysaccharides have also been described in other species of acetic acid bacteria. Our knowledge on chemical composition of different acetan-like polysaccharides, their viscoelasticity, and the genetic basis for their production has expanded during the last years. Here, we review data on acetan biosynthesis, its molecular structure, genetic organization, and mechanical properties. In addition, we have performed an extended bioinformatic analysis on acetan-like polysaccharide genetic clusters in the genomes of Komagataeibacter and Acetobacter species. The analysis revealed for the first time a second acetan-like polysaccharide genetic cluster, that is widespread in both genera. All species of the Komagataeibacter possess at least one acetan genetic cluster, while it is present in only one third of the Acetobacter species surveyed. 8. Selected legal problems of EEG biofeedback therapy under the Polish lawAleksandra Nowak-Gruca, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The use of EEG biofeedback for therapeutic or healing purposes has its justification in modern research and recently one can notice the increasing popularity of this method. Possible threats which may be associated with improper training and EEG biofeedback therapy may result from error in the diagnosis or incorrect selection of the training protocol. The effectiveness of therapy depends largely on the efforts of the patient himself, however, the range of waves will be amplified or suppressed by diagnosticians and therapists. If during an EEG biofeedback, the correct neuronal signal is amplified or suppressed, this can have adverse effects. In Poland, there are no legal regulations regarding the acquisition of qualifications for conducting neurotherapy. Likewise, there are no indications as to which institutions have the right to assign appropriate powers to use this type of apparatus. The lack of legal regulations means that now everyone can practice neurotherapy. The article presents selected legal problems related to conducting EEG biofeedback therapy under law, especially under Polish regulations, including the problem of the responsibility of the therapist or trainer. 9. Agricultural-industrial integration and new applications of natural fibres : jute floodplain cropping in the Amazon reborn?Ana Maria de Bicalho, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In recent years natural fibre production has taken on considerable appeal because of new industrial applications in environmental friendly products and growing demand for fibres could contribute to social welfare of poor farmers in developing countries. The new uses of natural fibres are part of highly technical green solutions for problems in the industrial and consumption regions but it may be asked whether this demand really addresses social and ecological issues in regions of primary production. These issues are examined in the Brazilian Amazon where recently a composite fibre sheet factory was opened and fibre cropping is making a comeback after decades of economic stagnation. It is shown here that the expansion of the activity, while significant, has not yet reached the scale of the past, but the market is promising, particularly in the automotive industry, which could further stimulate jute and malva production in the region. 10. Mobile wallets' business models : refining strategic partnershipsUschi Buchinger, Heritiana Ranaivoson, Pieter Ballon, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background and Purpose: Though Mobile Wallets have the potential to entirely substitute their physical predecessor, many Mobile Wallets narrow their operations to one particular feature. This might be because of strategic business- model design choices to position themselves strategically as intermediates between users and business partners (third parties) in more delimited markets. Thus, Mobile Wallet Applications (MWAs) often represent platforms in narrow two-sided market structures.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The paper focuses on the economics of such platforms by the means of a business model analysis. It examines how business partners are integrated in four MWAs’ strategies: Key Ring, FidMe, Apple Passbook and Qustomer.
Results: The paper shows that MWAs strive to incorporate not only a large quantity of partners but also such with a high brand value (quality of partners) in their organization design. These partners shape their service design since none of the platforms offer products or services themselves. Hence, MWAs are dependent on the third parties’ capacity and willingness to fulfill engagements and meet the customer demands.
Conclusion: MWAs - though concerned with the inclusion and management of loyalty points and schemes - do not leverage the possibility to generate revenue via third parties’ loyalty points. Theoretically, MWAs could reward or redeem loyalty points themselves.
