Development of a “0-Pesticide Residue” grape and wine production system for standard disease-susceptible varieties

Opis: In order to realize the goals of the EU Farm to Fork strategy, grape growers are introducing new grape-growing technologies. Among the new trends, "0-pesticide residue" protection is quite a promising one. Field trials were carried out in vineyards located in the Mediterranean part of Slovenia in 2021 and 2022 to test the "0-pesticide residue" (ZPR) grape protection system with the goal of producing wine without pesticide residues above the limit of 0.001 mg kg(-1). The standard integrated grape protection program (IP) was compared to the ZPR program. The level of infection of leaves and grapes by fungal pathogens did not significantly increase due to the implementation of the ZPR spray program. The amount of yield and quality of yield were not decreased significantly, but a small financial loss of EUR 70-400 ha(-1) appeared at ZPR grape production when compared to the IP production system. The ZPR system enabled a significant decrease in pesticide residue concentration in wine at a rate of 27 applied pesticide active substances in a rage from 20% to 99%. The goal of producing wine without pesticide residues above the limit concentration of 0.001 mg kg(-1) was not completely achieved in these experiments, but we came very close to it with the tested spraying programs. Further finetuning of pesticide positioning and alternative plant protection products in 0-pesticide residue systems is needed.

A regenerator used in the installation of magnetic refrigeration devices

Opis: In this article, the mechanism and functioning of a refrigeration system based on the magnetic system and the magnetocaloric effect are examined. Magnetic refrigeration plants operate based on a state-of-the-art technology that does not contain any toxic refrigerant that is harmful to the environment and the ozone layer. The magnetocaloric effect is created by a rare earth metal called gadolinium. We have studied the benefits of using this type of mechanism for both domestic and industrial needs. High efficiency, net energy consumption lower than the classic, silent systems, and a lack of typical refrigerant characterize this type of installation. The following layout describes the initial prototype for AMR in magnetocaloric refrigeration.

Method of the best available technology and low carbon future of a combined heat and power plant

Opis: The low-carbon development strategy and ecological awareness of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant is the key factor that enables further development of such systems. CHP plants are subject to rigid European ecological guidelines, which dictate the pace of development of global thermal power engineering. For this purpose, the European Union issued a special Directive for the promotion of heat and power cogeneration, and is established with the best available technology (BAT) method. Even though the production of electricity using carbon-free technologies is on the rise, the production of electricity by fossil fuel combustion cannot be avoided completely. The meaning of the operation of the CHP plant is reflected particularly in the provision of tertiary services to the electric power system, regulation of the network frequency, particularly in winter months, when electricity production using carbon-free technologies is limited. In CHP systems, the low-carbon future is linked intricately to high investment costs and these impacts the final price of energy. Using the BAT method, the article presents the advantages of energy production in a combined heat and power plant, an example of the restructuring of a larger CHP system into a low-carbon plant and guidelines for further development.

Phenotyping of mammalian CHO cell line in fed-batch bioprocess by intensified and classical procedure : master's thesis

Opis: Nowadays, pharmaceutical industry is striving to find more biologically relevant solutions and to move from synthetic to biological products. Biopharmaceuticals represent an emerging sector in the pharmaceutical industry and are useful for a wide range of indications, including oncology and rheumatology. The development and optimisation of bioprocesses at laboratory scale is crucial for process understanding and translation into production. Bioprocess development often begins with comparison of several potential clones to be characterized, tested in low-volume cultures with different media or other variables, and then evaluated for growth, productivity, and consistency. The purpose of this master's thesis is to review changes in growth curves, substrate consumption, yield, and product quality of a mammalian cell line when substituting glucose as the main carbon source with alternative energy sources. This master thesis presents an attempt to adapt a mammalian CHO cell line to alternative energy sources. A comparison of the cultivation with maintenance of the CHO mammalian cell line by an intensified and a classical process is also shown. Substrate requirements at different time points of the process were monitored using phenotypic microarrays. Based on the obtained and analyzed results of the phenotypic microarrays, we tried to optimize the cell culture supplementation strategy. We have tried to use small molecules to facilitate adaptation to alternative energy sources. Our results showed that growing CHO cell culture on an alternative energy source-maltose and cell reprogramming with small molecules affects the quality of the product. Trends in cell growth, substrate consumption, by-product excretion and final product concentration are similar between the reference cell cultures and those pre-treated with small molecules. We found that adapting a mammalian CHO cell line to an alternative energy source is a challenging process that would need to be carried out over a long period of time.

Izbira ustrezne banke za posameznike po končanem izobraževanju z večkriterijskimi metodami

Opis: Odločitev za primerno banko ima dolgoročne posledice za posameznika, zato je ključno uporabiti sistematičen pristop za ocenjevanje različnih alternativ in določanje njihove ustreznosti glede na izbrane kriterije. Finančne odločitve, vključno z izbiro banke, imajo vpliv na naše osebne finance in finančno varnost. S tem namenom želimo prispevati k učinkovitemu procesu odločanja pri izbiri banke za posameznike, ki so zaključili izobraževanje. V diplomskem delu smo se poglobili v kompleksnost izbire ustrezne banke za posameznike po končanem izobraževanju. Pri tem smo uporabili večkriterijsko odločanje, saj so kriteriji za izbiro pogosto v konfliktu med seboj. Za reševanje tega problema smo se zatekli k uporabi programa Web-HIPRE, ki nam je omogočil sistematičen pristop k ocenjevanju alternativ in določanju njihove ustreznosti glede na izbrane kriterije. V prvem delu naše raziskave smo analizirali 4 različne alternative poslovnih bank in upoštevali 4 različne kriterije, ki smo jih določili. Z uporabo večkriterijskega odločanja smo prišli do zaključka, da je Nova Ljubljanska banka (NLB) najboljša izbira glede na izbrane kriterije in vrednosti uteži, ki smo jih določili na podlagi odgovorov iz anketnega vprašalnika. Ta ugotovitev nam omogoča, da posameznikom svetujemo, naj se odločijo za NLB kot najbolj primerno poslovno banko glede na njihove potrebe. V drugem delu raziskave smo se osredotočili na izbiro najboljše neobanke. Analizirali smo 3 različne alternative neobank in upoštevali 3 različne kriterije. Na podlagi večkriterijskega odločanja smo ugotovili, da je Revolut najboljša izbira glede na izbrane kriterije in vrednosti uteži, ki smo jih določili na podlagi odgovorov iz anketnega vprašalnika. Ta zaključek nam omogoča, da posameznikom priporočamo neobanko Revolut kot najprimernejšo neobanko za njihove potrebe po končanem izobraževanju. S celovito uporabo večkriterijskega odločanja in programa Web-HIPRE smo pridobili objektivne rezultate, ki nam omogočajo informirano in racionalno odločanje pri izbiri najboljše banke in neobanke za posameznike po končanem izobraževanju. Naša raziskava prispeva k bolj učinkovitemu procesu odločanja in lahko služi kot podlaga za nadaljnje raziskave na področju večkriterijskega odločanja v bančništvu.

The two most important Slovenian energy pools, located in Velenje and Krško, are at the turning point of renovation, and are facing major challenges in the design and planning of modern energy devices. The current generation faces a great ethical responsibility to leave their descendants a world with as little human impact on the environment as possible. Izzivi pri vzpostavljanju trajnostne oskrbovalne verige palmovega olja

Opis: V diplomskem delu obravnavamo tematiko palmovega olja, njegove oskrbovalne verige in okoljske probleme, ki jih povzročajo zahteve po palmovem olju. Ker se populacija iz dneva v dan veča in s tem tudi povpraševanje, je pomembno vpeljati spremembe pri tej problematiki. Ključnega pomena bi bilo iskanje novih alternativ in prizadevanje za trajnost palmovega olja. Analizirali smo oskrbovalno verigo palmovega olja in probleme, ki jih nove plantaže predstavljajo okolju. V empiričnem delu smo podjetja spraševali po trajnosti, certifikatih, okoljskih problemih in alternativah. Zanimalo nas je, ali podjetja stremijo k zeleni politiki. Raziskavo smo izvedli s pomočjo ankete, ki smo jo podjetjem poslali preko e-pošte. Podrobno smo želeli raziskati rabo palmovega olja v praksi, jo kritično ovrednotiti in poiskati možne trajnostne rešitve. Izkazalo se je, da je trajnost podjetjem pomembna, vendar le do trenutka, ko še bistveno ne vpliva na zaslužek. Anketirana podjetja poznajo posledice, ki jih palmovo olje povzroča. Kljub negativnim posledicam jim je pomembnejša kvaliteta in nizka cena. Ugotovili smo, da pravih alternativ, ki bi lahko nadomestile palmovo olje, ne poznamo.

Possibilities of mediation in Republic of Serbia in cases of domestic violence

Opis: Purpose: This paper analyses the theoretical, legislative and practical advantages and limitations of mediation as an alternative way of resolving the conflict between perpetrator and victim of domestic violence in Serbia. Starting from the premise that mediation in lighter cases of domestic violence is more preferred form of social reaction from the initiation of criminal proceedings; the authors analyse the legislation of the Republic of Serbia and point out that the mutual incompatibility of laws disables use of mediation in practice. Design/Methods/Approach: Based on acceptability of the concept of restorative justice, this scientific work analyses the advantages and limitations of mediation as an alternative way of resolving the conflict of the offender and the victim in cases of domestic violence. Authors use the comparative method, legal dogmatic method, case study method (examples for court practice in Serbia) and statistical data to examine the hypothesis that mediation may constitute a constructive way of resolving less violent conflicts within the family members and why is not enough applied in practice. Findings: Modern criminal political orientation of the “zero” tolerance of domestic violence, which was adopted in law in practice in Serbia is “blocking” use of mediation, which, in public opinion, is seen as an inadequate response to this crime. Results of the analysis show that the Serbian legislature opted for a punitive response and measures of restraining as most important mechanisms for the prevention of domestic violence. Research Limitations / Implications: These data provide insight into the marginal segment of the formal response to domestic violence in Serbia. Originality/Value: Few studies in Serbia comparing foreign experience and domestic social possibilities for the success of mediation in cases of domestic violence.
