Steps towards a realisation of the right to have a nationality

Opis: International standards regarding the acquisition and loss of nationality are increasingly being developed by various international institutions. This paper focusses on standard setting (in particular by the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union) with relevance for European countries. While international treaties on or including rules on nationality law are addressed, attention is also given to soft law instruments such as guidelines and recommendations. Moreover, several new standards have also emerged from the decisions of international courts. The authors conclude that all these rules have as result that the margin of appreciation for national governments and courts in matters related to nationality law matters is getting increasingly smaller.

Research trends in motivation and weight loss : a bibliometric-based review

Opis: Obesity is a complex disease that, like COVID-19, has reached pandemic proportions. Consequently, it has become a rapidly growing scientific field, represented by an extensive body of research publications. Therefore, the aim of this study was to present the research trends in the scientific literature on motivation and weight loss. Because traditional knowledge synthesis approaches are not appropriate for analyzing large corpora of research evidence, we utilized a novel knowledge synthesis approach called synthetic knowledge synthesis (SKS) to generate new holistic insights into obesity research focusing on motivation. SKS is a triangulation of bibliometric analysis, bibliometric mapping, and content analysis. Using it, we analyzed the corpus of publications retrieved from the Scopus database, using the search string TITLE-ABS-KEY((obesity or overweight) and “weight loss” and motiv*) in titles, keywords, and abstracts, without any additional inclusion or exclusion criteria. The search resulted in a corpus of 2301 publications. The United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Australia were the most productive countries. Four themes emerged, namely, weight loss and weight-loss maintenance through motivational interventions, lifestyle changes supported by smart ICT, maintaining sustainable weight with a healthier lifestyle, and weight management on the level of primary healthcare and bariatric surgery. Further, we established that the volume of research literature is growing, as is the scope of the research. However, we observed a regional concentration of research and its funding in developed countries and almost nonexistent research cooperation between developed and less-developed countries.

A review of recombination coefficients of neutral oxygen atoms for various materials

Opis: Relevant data on heterogeneous surface recombination of neutral oxygen atoms available in the scientific literature are reviewed and discussed for various materials. The coefficients are determined by placing the samples either in non-equilibrium oxygen plasma or its afterglow. The experimental methods used to determine the coefficients are examined and categorized into calorimetry, actinometry, NO titration, laser-induced fluorescence, and various other methods and their combinations. Some numerical models for recombination coefficient determination are also examined. Correlations are drawn between the experimental parameters and the reported coefficients. Different materials are examined and categorized according to reported recombination coefficients into catalytic, semi-catalytic, and inert materials. Measurements from the literature of the recombination coefficients for some materials are compiled and compared, along with the possible system pressure and material surface temperature dependence of the materials’ recombination coefficient. A large scattering of results reported by different authors is discussed, and possible explanations are provided.

Modelling of unit differential reversal curves in the G2E hysteresis model

Opis: Iron losses represent a crucial factor in the design process of electrical machines. For this reason, it is important to consider adequate hysteresis behavior within models which predict iron losses. A promising hysteresis description is the static hysteresis model developed by the G2Elab research group. It proposes a unique approach of modelling magnetization curves inside the major loop based on the so-called unit differential reversal curves (uDRCs). This work focuses on modelling of the uDRCs. We analyzed the accuracy and identification approaches of several uDRC models, where we compared the established model with simplified solutions with less parameters. Further, we analyzed the impact of individual models regarding identification convergence. Finally, we highlighted which simplified models give the best trade-off between the ease and stability of identification process of parameters, and the accuracy of the hysteresis model.

Lost Energy of Water Spilled over Hydropower Dams

Opis: The present paper presents a view of water spilled over hydropower plants as an energy loss. In the current climate conditions, flood events are becoming more frequent due to human impact on the environment; water spills are also more frequent, which means more and more energy is lost. How much water is spilled and, consequently, how much energy is lost is shown in the present article on the chain of power plants on the Sava River in the five years from 2015 to 2019. An analytical assessment of the current situation in the lock was carried out, which showed that the available water through the locks could be used efficiently. The paper presents a case study of one overflow event lasting 48 h. The calculated theoretical losses of energy (of spilled water) and possible technical implementation for capturing losses are given. The proposed technical implementation is based on established technology, so we could expect that the approach is feasible. The results show that the estimated spilled water energy potential reaches about 40% of the actual spilled water or energy lost.

New technique to evaluate the overall heat loss coefficient for a flat plate solar collector

Opis: Low-temperature solar systems mostly use flat plate solar collectors. Good design and correct dimensioning of a solar heat generator are based on precise knowledge of the characteristics of the flat plate solar collector on site. The present work considers a flat plate solar air collector, a flat plate solar water collector, and a flat plate solar water collector with air absorber cooling. The investigation intends to shed light on a procedure to determine the overall heat loss coefficient and the heat removal factor using recorded system temperatures, operating parameters, and environmental data. The Hottel-Whillier-Bliss equation gives the collector useful energy. This expression is used to generate a correlation for the collector efficiency through a linear fitting. We calculate the overall heat loss coefficient of the collector from the slope of the collector efficiency curve. However, we need to know the heat removal factor of the collector. In this study, we present a new technique to calculate the heat removal factor. Then we deduce the collector overall heat loss coefficient. Results show that, very often, the overall heat loss coefficient for the flat plate solar air collector and the flat plate solar water collector determined with this new method is higher than the one calculated with the empirical formula proposed by Klein. However, the experimental overall heat loss coefficient for the flat plate solar water collector with air absorber cooling is smaller than the one calculated with the empirical formula proposed by Klein. The analysis shows that the overall heat loss coefficient determined with the new technique seems more realistic since all phenomena occurring during the heat transfer from solar irradiance incident on the absorber plate and transmitted to the transport fluid are considered.

Impacts of different factors on seepage and land uplift due to compressed-air injection

Opis: In this study, using an in-situ, air-flow test in Essen, the impacts of different factors on multiphase flow and land uplift during and after compressed-air injection were investigated using numerical simulations. A loosely coupled, two-phase flow and geo-mechanical modeling approach, linking two numerical codes (TOUGH2/EOS3 and FLAC3D) was employed to simulate the in-situ, air-flow test for comparing the simulated and measured results. As the compressed air is injected, it flows upwards and laterally, and the vertical effective stress near and above the injection zones decreases owing to the pore pressure increasing here, causing an expansion of the soil skeleton in the corresponding zones. The land uplift, induced mainly by support actions from lower deformed soils, is relevant to the distribution of the porosity increments in the soil interior, and it increases rapidly during air injection. After the compressed-air injection stops, the land uplift decreases gradually to zero due to the overpressure dissipation. With a combination of intensive rainfall, the land uplift is slightly greater near the borehole, but it is significantly greater at a distance from the borehole than the land uplift with no or low rainfall, but the air-injection rate remains almost unchanged due to the unchangeable pore pressure near the injection region. As the intrinsic permeability increases or the air entry pressure decreases in the injected strata, both the land uplift and the air injection rate increase, but the time required for the land uplift to become zero is slightly advanced with either a small permeability or a high air entry pressure.

Effect of backfat loss during lactation on weaning-to-oestrus interval of sows at gonadotropin application

Opis: A total of 984 primiparous and multiparous crossbred sows (Swedish Landrace × Large White) housed on a commercial pig farm were used to study the effect of the decrease in backfat thickness during lactation and the level of backfat at weaning on weaning-to-oestrus interval and conception rate of sows. Primiparous sows (n=213) received a single injection of 400 IU eCG + 200 IU hCG (PG600®, Intervet) at weaning and approximately 30 % of sows did not respond to the first treatment. First-farrowing sows produced significantly fewer live-born piglets, had markedly thinner backfat in late gestation, showed significant loss of backfat thickness during lactation and showed thinner backfat at weaning than sows with a greater number of parities. Primiparous sows with backfat thinner than 18 mm at weaning lost an average of 21 % of backfat during lactation and had a significantly longer weaning-to-oestrus interval (31.75 ± 2.22 days), even after a second treatment with PG600®, than both primiparous sows which responded to the first treatment (5.95 ± 0.16 days) and multiparous sows which were not treated (5.19 ± 0.12 days). The primiparous and multiparous sows with thicker backfat at farrowing also had thicker backfat at weaning (r=0.874 and r=0.938 for primiparous and multiparous sows, respectively). Sows with thicker backfat at weaning showed a shorter weaning-to-oestrus interval and this correlation was higher for primiparous than for multiparous sows (r=-0.192 and r=-0.100, respectively). Thicker backfat of the sows at weaning was moderately but significantly correlated with lower loss of backfat during lactation (r=-0.179 and r=-0.273 for primiparous and multiparous sows, respectively). The present study showed that monitoring of backfat thickness and loss of backfat during lactation represents a useful tool to decrease non-productive days and improve the efficiency of high-producing pig herds.

Assessment of magnetic fluid losses out of magnetic properties measurement

Opis: In this paper an improved measurement system for experimental assessment of magnetic fluid losses is presented. When fluid is exposed to AC magnetic field, three different losses mechanisms are active; relaxation, hysteresis and resonance mechanism. In this paper not individual contributions where studied but combine acting which can be determine as specific power losses (SPL). SPL of the sample is obtained for a variety of amplitudes and frequencies of magnetic field with presented method of measurement of field parameters where results revealed f H2 dependence for fixed temperature of the sample. Temperature dependence of SPL is examined with calorimetrical measurements, where heating of magnetic fluid at fixed value of applied field and various frequencies is examined and results revealed linearly decreasing temperature dependence.
