1. Operatic adaptation of Shakespeare`s Romeo and JulietEva Zore, 2018, magistrsko delo Opis: This Master’s Thesis analyses Charles Gounod’s operatic adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The theoretical part introduces the theory of adaptation with a particular focus on operatic adaptations; it then moves on to three modes of adaptations, and discusses the correlation between adaptation and plagiarism. In the second chapter, the thesis identifies and interprets the sources for Shakespeare’s and Gounod’s works, introduces the librettists Jules Barbier and Michael Carré and discusses the background of the period of the operatic production. The main purpose of this thesis is to identify and study stylistic correlation between Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and the libretto of Roméo et Juliette. The thesis further establishes whether the librettists make certain themes from the play more or less prominent. For this purpose, three passages were selected for the contrastive microstructural analysis of the play and its operatic adaptation in the final chapter of this thesis. The intent is to establish whether librettists managed to preserve Shakespeare’s most salient stylistic elements as well as other textual characteristics that have an impact on the interpretative potential of the adaptation. 5. An Analysis of the Dramatization of 19th Century Medical Science in the Television Show The KnickDejan Preradović, 2018, magistrsko delo Opis: I researched how accurate the dramatization of medical science is in the television series The
Knick. The thesis is separated into two parts. In the first part, I analyze the accuracy of the
depiction of real persons in the series. The main character John Thackery is an adaptation of the
real-life surgeon William Halsted. The character of Dr. Cotton is a dramatization of the real
psychiatrist named Henry Cotton. The series also adapts the story of Mary Mallon, who was a
healthy carrier of typhoid fever and was responsible for spreading the disease in households
where she worked as a cook. In the second part of my thesis, I analyze the accuracy of the
medical science depicted in the series and explain how the producers used visual effects to
achieve historical accuracy. Ključne besede: The Knick, dramatization, adaptation, science, analysis, comparison. Objavljeno v DKUM: 04.04.2018; Ogledov: 896; Prenosov: 119

6. Adapted user-centered design : a strategy for the higher user acceptance of innovative e-health servicesEmilija Stojmenova Duh, Bojan Imperl, Tomaž Žohar, Dejan Dinevski, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Being familiar with all the benefits of e-Health and the strategic plan for the Slovenian health sectors informatization, Telekom Slovenia and the Faculty of Medicine from the University of Maribor, along with other partners, have initiated an e-Health project. The project group is developing various e-Health services that are based on modern ICT (information and communications technology) solutions and will be available on several screens. In order to meet the users needs and expectations and, consequently, achieve the high acceptance of e-Health services, the user-centered design (UCD) approach was employed in the e-Health project. However, during the research it was found that conventional UCD methods are not completely appropriate for older adults: the target population of the e-Health services. That is why the selected UCD methods were modified and adapted for older adults. The modified UCD methods used in the research study are presented in this paper. Using the results of the adapted UCD methods, a prototype for a service named MedReminder was developed. The prototype was evaluated by a group of 12 study participants. The study participants evaluated the MedReminder service as acceptable with a good potential for a high adoption rate among its target population, i.e., older adults. 7. A Psychological Analysis of a Post Modern Adaptation of The TempestDeja Kučer, 2017, magistrsko delo Opis: The master’s thesis A Psychological Analysis of a Post Modern Adaptation of The Tempest deals with scientific analysis of the underlying themes which are common to the play The Tempest (1610–11) from Elizabethan era and its modern adaptation, a science fiction film Forbidden Planet (1956). I focus on character analysis and continue with Freud’s psychological theory focusing on two models of human psyche, in which according to the structural model the psyche consists of three entities: id, ego and superego. The other model of the human psyche is the topographical model, where I explain the differences between the unconscious and conscious mind. I also present Freud’s theory of dreams. In addition, I link Freud’s theory to the two literary works. The analysis shows what consequences can occur if one’s id, as a source of aggressive drives, gets too strong and acts only to satisfy its primeval impulses. Through parallelism between magic and technology I found that technology has the greatest impact on the one who possess it. 8. English Loanwords in Slovene Teen Magazines from 1991 until 2015Petra Ivanjko, 2016, diplomsko delo Opis: The thesis deals with English loanwords in Slovene teen magazines from the year 1991 until 2015. English, as an international language, has had a great influence on Slovene for decades. Native speakers of Slovene use English in their everyday life and in different situations: at work, in informal conversations, in magazines, and in books. In the theoretical part, the main objectives were to present different views on borrowing and describe the process of borrowing. When a word is borrowed from the donor language by the receiving language, it may undergo various changes. Native speakers of Slovene borrow a word from an English model (a borrowing word) which gradually changes into a replica (a borrowed word). The phonological, morphological and semantic adaptation is described. I provided the differences between older loanwords, that have been part of the Slovene lexicon for decades, and recent loanwords. Older loanwords follow the morphological rules of Slovene while recent loanwords often keep their original form. Furthermore, various reasons for borrowing a word from the donor by the receiving language are presented. In the empirical part of my thesis, English loanwords found in the magazines were analyzed morphologically and semantically. I provided the reasons for the extensive use of loanwords in the magazines which are written for and dedicated to teenagers. Finally, I determine why an author of a certain article prefers to use English loanwords instead of Slovene equivalents. In the last part of my thesis, the findings and conclusions are presented. 9. Intertextuality, Adaptation and Appropriation in Michael Cunnigham’s Novel The HoursŠpela Mosbruker, 2016, magistrsko delo Opis: The graduation thesis presents Michael Cunningham's The Hours. The novel is a Postmodernist work, based on Virginia Woolf's modernist novel Mrs Dalloway. The thesis explores the intertextual relations between the two works and discovers features of adaptation and appropriation.
The intertextual analysis is based on several original intertexts: Mrs Dalloway, Woolf’s letters and her life itself.
The characteristics of The Hours as an intertextual work, as adaptation and appropriation are supported with examples from the text and with theories by Gerard Genette, Julie Sanders and Linda Hutcheon. Intertextuality is divided into quotation, allusion and paratextuality in the thesis; adaptation is illustrated with specific examples, and appropriation is discussed within the frames of a riff and other imitation features of The Hours.
The thesis deals with several elements of The Hours, such as motifs, themes, names of the characters, imitation of Woolf’s style and settings which are presented as intertextual examples or/and as characteristics of adaptation and appropriation.
In accordance with Postmodernist principles, the importance of the reader is stressed in order for him/her to perceive the intertextual, adaptive and appropriated features of the novel.
The Hours can be perceived as intertextual work or as adaptation and/or appropriation. Ključne besede: The Hours, Mrs Dalloway, intertextuality, adaptation, appropriation, postmodernism, modernism. Objavljeno v DKUM: 25.03.2016; Ogledov: 2024; Prenosov: 175

10. Comparing Shakespeare`s Othello to Three Film AdaptationsAlenka Gomivnik, 2015, diplomsko delo Opis: William Shakespeare's plays have had countless adaptations on stage and film, because his 16th century plays can still be made modern and interesting nowadays. They can be adapted to the modern world or played out in costumes and settings appropriate for their original contexts.
This thesis will explore whether the temporal and cultural context alters the way the play is interpreted over decades. That is why the thesis will deal with three films: The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice, directed by Orson Welles, made in 1952; Othello, directed by Oliver Parker, made in 1995; and O, directed by Tim Blake Nelson, made in 2001.
Each screenwriter and director has their own vision of a story they are trying to tell, whether it be an adaptation, appropriation or an original work. This thesis will explore whether the main theme of Othello remained intact across all three adaptations or whether, despite being changed to some extent, the adaptation can still be recognised as Othello.
