1. Coastal fish fauna in the Cystoseira s.l. algal belts : experiences from the Northern Adriatic SeaLovrenc Lipej, Danijel Ivajnšič, Valentina Pitacco, Domen Trkov, Borut Mavrič, Martina Orlando-Bonaca, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Cystoseira s.l. forests are recognised as important habitats which host diverse coastal fish assemblages. Many fish species use such habitats as feeding, breeding, and nursery grounds. Since the coastal fish community depends on the availability of dense macroalgal belts, the decline of these habitats in the Mediterranean Sea also affects the density of coastal fish species. We studied the coastal fish assemblage in Cystoseira s.l. forests in three consecutive years 2019–2021 in the Gulf of Trieste (Adriatic Sea). Data on coastal fish fauna were collected by visual counts conducted by SCUBA diving. Data on algal cover and habitat types were obtained by recording with a video camera. Similarities and differences in the fish community were analysed in terms of habitat and substrate preferences. A total of 34 species were recorded in Cystoseira forests. The results of the present study show that the different algal cover and associated depth gradient have different effects on the fish assemblage in coastal waters, affecting species composition and abundance. For many species, particularly labrids and sea breams, there is a decreasing temporal trend in frequency of occurrence and density. However, fish community trends can be used as a good “proxy” to evaluate the algal belt status. Our results indicate that rapid conservation and restoration actions are needed to stem the decline of Cystoseira s.l. forests. 2. Comparison of criteria for road safety barrier installation in some countries of the European unionLeonid Ljubotina, 2019, magistrsko delo Opis: In the master thesis we will analyze regulations which define the criterion for vehicle restraint system installment in certain countries of the European Union. We will focus mostly on Slovenia, Italia and Croatia. Even though all of the three states are members of the European Union, have common borders and the “Mediterranean” TEN corridor passes through these countries, it is possible to conclude that the passive safety equipment on the road infrastructure in those states is not harmonized.
There are also big differences between the installation conditions of the traffic safety barriers and category selection of the safety barriers. Analyzing regulations regarding traffic safety barrier installation, we will try to define the differences in equipping roads with safety barriers, depending on road category, definition of black spot and the category of the safety barrier. 3. The harvestmen fauna (Arachnida: Opiliones) from the Sub Mediterranean region of Slovenia - IITone Novak, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In the present paper, further findings of harvestmen in the Sub Mediterranean region of Slovenia are presented, and comments on some actual problems with the species are added. With the exception of the possible discovery of a troglobitic species in the region, all species living there have presumptively been recorded. With the exclusion of Trogulus gr. nepaeformis and T. gr. tricarinatus, where more species are expected, 34 species and one subspecies have been found in the region. About 20 opilionid species are typical of the region; the others occur in the marginal habitats bordering other zoogeographical regions. 4. Elevational diversity of reptiles on two Dinaric mountainsBoris Kryštufek, Franc Janžekovič, Nataša Režek Donev, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Elevational pattern in reptilian species richness and species turnover was studied on two Dinaric mountains along the eastern Adriatic coast: northern Mt. Velebit and Mt. Biokovo. Both mountains had similar numbers of species (20 and 22, respectively) and showed a gradual decline in species richness with increasing elevation. Lizard species richness was less dependent on elevation than that of snakes. Pattern of species turnover among 200 m elevational intervals peaked at high elevations in Mt. Velebit and at mid-elevations in Mt. Biokovo. Two elevational zones (0-400 m and 1400-1600 m) contained 100% of a local species pool in Mt. Velebit and 91% in Mt. Biokovo. Effective conservation of reptilian species richness in the Dinaric Alps should thus focus on extreme altitudinal zones.
