Models of inter-organizational logistics management in Slovenia
Sašo Murtič, Andrej Lisec, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Throughout the history, the transportation of goods and related logistics have played an important role in human development and existence. This pertains to numerous interlinked processes, whose management is often linked to social system, international linkages, development of industry, market and market specifics. In modern times, the management of these processes is increasingly bound to globalization of production and market, moving of production to countries with cheaper labour force, environmental protection. The present Slovenian economy depends to a large extent on economies and corporate relations of the European Union and the world. Such inter-connectedness demands frequent transportation of semi-finished and finished goods. By providing timely delivery of goods, transportation consequently enables inter-organizational linkages and individual production, economic, market and other processes. Organizational and inter-organizational management of transport logistics demands profound understanding of transport flows, freight forwarding expertise and knowledge of transport, tax, environmental and other related regulations. Adequate knowledge and mastering of cultural, linguistic, national and other differences is important as well. The presented analysis and evaluation form the basis of the construction of inter-organizational model of logistics management in Slovenia.

Survival of node-negative breast cancer patients treated at the University Medical Centre Maribor in the period 2000-2009
Nina Fokter Dovnik, Darja Arko, Nina Čas-Sikošek, Iztok Takač, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction: Breast cancer is increasingly diagnosed in the early stages without regional nodal involvement. The aim of the present study was to determine the 5-year overall (OS) and breast cancer specific survival (BCSS) for patients with node-negative breast cancer treated at the University Medical Centre Maribor, and compare it with survival at the national level. Methods: Medical records were searched for information on patients with lymph node-negative invasive breast cancer who received primary treatment at the University Medical Centre Maribor in the period 2000–2009. Information on all Slovenian node-negative breast cancer patients diagnosed in the same period was obtained from the Cancer Registry of Republic of Slovenia. Time trends in survival were assessed by comparing the periods 2000–2004 and 2005–2009. Results: The 5-year OS and BCSS of patients treated in Maribor in the period 2000–2009 were 92.3% (95% CI, 90.5%– 94.1%) and 96.4% (95% CI, 95.2%–97.6%), respectively, and did not differ from the corresponding OS and BCSS for Slovenian patients. Although the improvement in OS for patients from Maribor diagnosed in the period 2005–2009 compared to 2000–2004 did not reach statistical significance (HR 0.73; 95% CI, 0.51–1.05; p=0.086), BCSS significantly improved over the same time periods (HR 0.53; 95% CI, 0.30–0.94; p=0.028). Conclusions: Survival of node-negative breast cancer patients treated at the University Medical Centre Maribor is comparable to survival of corresponding patients at the national level. The rising number of long-term breast cancer survivors places additional importance on survivorship care.

Ethics of managers in Slovenian public administration
Zlatko Nedelko, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main purpose of this paper is to examine how managers´ personal values and managers´ attitudes towards the natural and social environment are shaping the ethics of those same managers in public administration. The findings are based on a sample of 212 managers from Slovenian public administration. Personal values were measured using the Schwartz value survey, while attitudes toward natural and social environment were measured with a validated questionnaire. Results show that managers´ self-enhancing values are positively related to their attitudes toward both natural and social environment and their ethics. Managers´ self-transcendence values were found to be negatively associated with their attitudes toward the social environment and their ethics. Managers´ attitudes toward natural and social environment are both positively related with the managers´ ethics. The mediation effect of the attitudes towards the social environment on the relationships between managers´ personal values and their ethics is positive and significant. The main cognition is that managers´ attitudes towards the social environment are a significantly stronger predictor of managers´ ethics than are managers´ personal values.

Opis: This paper aims at describing and explaining the differences in the growth aspirations of male and female entrepreneurs in Slovenia, especially of those who are in the early stage of entrepreneurial activity. The paper is based on Global Entrepreneurship Monitor data. Explanatory variables affecting growth aspirations of early-stage entrepreneurs are related to the personal characteristics of entrepreneurs - their entrepreneurial capacity (skills and motivation), as well as to the environmental characteristics regarding cultural and social support for the entrepreneurship and, to some extent, also to firm characteristics, especially the age of the firm. All these topics are analysed on the basis of gender differences.

Organizational factors for successful entering to e-marketplace
Andreja Pucihar, Mateja Podlogar, 2003, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The appeal of doing business on the Web is clear. By bringing together large numbers of buyers and sellers and by automating transactions, e-marketplaces expand the choices available to buyers, give sellers access to new customers (buyers), and reduce transaction costs for all participants. Entering the e- marketplace is related to the business process of reengineering, connecting of information systems, gaining new knowledge with training and learning, and making investments in new information technologies and software. Such organization must take very careful steps to prepare itself for a successful entrance on the e-marketplace. Only this kind of approach will enable the organization the full use of the available opportunities and will bring expected business results. The paper presents the different types of e-marketplaces and the use of e-marketplaces for business. Furthermore, the results of the research that was done among 250 large organizations in Slovenia are presented. The current status of the use e-commerce and e-marketplaces in large organizations in Slovenia is introduced. In addition, organizational factors found by large organizations to be important for a successful entrance to the e-marketplaces are presented. We conclude the paper with recommendations for the organizations that intend to enter e-marketplace.

Stereotypes of older employees compared to younger employees in Slovenian companies
Maja Rožman, Sonja Treven, Vesna Čančer, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Human resource management has an important impact on age diversity in companies. Age diversity in the workplace is growing and older employees are staying longer in the workforce, therefore it is important that employers can create a positive environment for age diverse employees. This paper introduces the difference in stereotypes in the workplace between older and younger employees in Slovenian companies. The main goal of this paper is to present the importance of age diversity and their age difference in stereotypes in the workplace. The paper is based on a research including a survey between two age groups of employees. We classified younger employees in the group of under 50 years of age and older employees in the group of above 50 years of age. For data analysis we used the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test to verify the differences in stereotypes in the workplace between two groups. Results show that there are significant differences in all of the variables describing stereotypes in the workplace between younger and older employees in Slovenian companies.

The steps towards successful reengineering in Slovenian companies
Duško Uršič, Matjaž Mulej, Boštjan Telič, 2005, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The authors have been researching the theory and practice of BPR (business process reengineering) since early nineties. In the paper, their own definition of the steps toward a successful BPR is briefed and applied as a background of the author's benchmarking of management concepts of ISO 9000, TQM, BPR, and 20 Keys. These are the most influential management concepts in Slovenian organisations, as a case of the countries that are now new members of European Union. BPR was found supported most of all. The presented management concepts are compared on the basis of clearly defined criteria, such as targets, initiative, IT role, customer role, degree of BPR, role of implementation, and management, HRM, and rate of project implementation. Results may allow for a wider application of BPR concept offered here anew in different countries as business environments in a similar stage of economic development.

Risk management in the pharmaceutical industry in Slovenian companies
Nina Bucalo, Borut Jereb, 2017, kratki znanstveni prispevek

Opis: The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most competitive businesses in the world. Supply chain in this industry has been directed towards the production of large batches to avoid lack of supplies, and the achievement of regulatory requirements, at the cost of high level of inventory, higher costs and inventory write-off due to expiration or other reasons. In recent years this industry is facing major changes and challenges such as intense globalization processes, increased competition and innovations in technologies, which has broadened and deepened risks in supply chain. The paper reports the results of the study of the risk in distribution processes of Slovenian pharmaceutical companies, which was conducted among five companies and aims to draw attention to risks that arise in supply chain, to emphasize the importance of their management and to present a model for an effective assessment of risk in companies, developed at the Faculty of Logistics.
