Temporal and statistical insights into multivariate time series forecasting of corn outlet moisture in industrial continuous-flow drying systems
Marko Simonič, Simon Klančnik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Corn drying is a critical post-harvest process to ensure product quality and compliance with moisture standards. Traditional optimization approaches often overlook dynamic interactions between operational parameters and environmental factors in industrial continuous flow drying systems. This study integrates statistical analysis and deep learning to predict outlet moisture content, leveraging a dataset of 3826 observations from an operational dryer. The effects of inlet moisture, target air temperature, and material discharge interval on thermal behavior of the system were evaluated through linear regression and t-test, which provided interpretable insights into process dependencies. Three neural network architectures (LSTM, GRU, and TCN) were benchmarked for multivariate time-series forecasting of outlet corn moisture, with hyperparameters optimized using grid search to ensure fair performance comparison. Results demonstrated GRU’s superior performance in the context of absolute deviations, achieving the lowest mean absolute error (MAE = 0.304%) and competitive mean squared error (MSE = 0.304%), compared to LSTM (MAE = 0.368%, MSE = 0.291%) and TCN (MAE = 0.397%, MSE = 0.315%). While GRU excelled in average prediction accuracy, LSTM’s lower MSE highlighted its robustness against extreme deviations. The hybrid methodology bridges statistical insights for interpretability with deep learning’s dynamic predictive capabilities, offering a scalable framework for real-time process optimization. By combining traditional analytical methods (e.g., regression and t-test) with deep learning-driven forecasting, this work advances intelligent monitoring and control of industrial drying systems, enhancing process stability, ensuring compliance with moisture standards, and indirectly supporting energy efficiency by reducing over drying and enabling more consistent operation.

Quantum-classical correspondence between quantum chaos and finite-time classical dynamics
Qian Wang, Marko Robnik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Although the importance of quantum-classical correspondence has been recognized in numerous studies of quantum chaos, its usefulness in understanding quantum chaos through finite-time classical dynamics remains less well understood. We address this question in this work by performing a detailed analysis of how the quantum chaotic measure relates to the chaoticity of the finite-time classical trajectories. A good correspondence between them has been revealed in time- dependent and many-body systems, both of them being of the mixed type. In particular, we show that the dependence of the quantum chaotic measure on the chaoticity of finite-time trajectories can be well captured by a function that is independent of the system. This strongly implies the universal validity of the finite-time quantum-classical correspondence. Our findings enhance the understanding of quantum-classical correspondence and provide a promising approach to explore the ergodic hierarchy in quantum systems.

Robotic surface finishing with a region-based approach incorporating dynamic motion constraints
Tomaž Pušnik, Aleš Hace, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This work presents a task-oriented framework for optimizing robotic surface finishing to improve efficiency and ensure feasibility under realistic kinematic and geometric constraints. The approach combines surface subdivision, optimal placement of the workpiece, and region-based toolpath planning to adapt machining strategies to local surface characteristics. A novel time evaluation criterion is introduced that improves our previous kinematic approach by incorporating dynamic aspects. This advancement enables a more realistic estimation of machining time, providing a more reliable basis for optimization and path planning. The framework determines both the optimal position of the workpiece and the subdivision of its surface into regions systematically, enabling machining directions and speeds to be adapted to the geometry of each region. The methodology was validated on several semi-complex surfaces through simulation and experimental trials with collaborative robotic manipulators. The results demonstrate that improved region-based optimization leads to machining time reductions of 9–26% compared to conventional single-direction machining strategies. The most significant improvements were achieved for larger, more complex geometries and denser machining paths, confirming the method’s industrial relevance. These findings establish the framework as a practical solution for reducing cycle time in specific robotic surface finishing tasks.

Simulation-based study of structural changes in electrical time-series signals
Luka Živković, Željko Hederić, Tin Benšić, Goran Kurtović, Marinko Stojkov, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: his paper uses statistical indicators to address the detection of changes in electrical signals typical of industrial and power systems. A dedicated MATLAB algorithm was developed to identify change points by tracking shifts in signal behaviour and statistical properties. To evaluate the method, synthetic signals were generated through simulation to reproduce the common patterns observed in these systems, allowing testing under different operating conditions and varying noise levels. The results demonstrate that the algorithm detects change points reliably across multiple scenarios, showing flexibility and robustness. This study highlights the value of simulation-based signal generation as a controlled environment for testing detection methods. It provides a foundation for future applications to more complex real-world electrical signal analysis tasks.

Tumor immune microenvironment in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma revisited - Exploring the "Space"
Konstantin Bräutigam, Kristijan Skok, Krzysztof Szymonski, Charlotte Vestrup Rift, Eva Karamitopoulou, 2025, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the most deadly malignancies with a highly immunosuppressive tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) that hinders effective therapy. PDAC is characterized by significant heterogeneity in immune cell composition, spatial distribution and activation states, which impacts tumor progression and treatment response. Tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), including CD4+ T-helper cells, CD8+ cytotoxic T-cells and FOXP3+ regulatory T-cells, play a key role in immune regulation, yet PDAC is largely an immunologically "cold" tumour with limited effector T-cell infiltration. The surrounding cellular microenvironment, particularly Cancer Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) and macrophages, contributes to immune evasion by promoting a fibrotic and desmoplastic barrier that limits TIL infiltration. The prognostic significance of TILs is increasingly recognized, with higher densities correlating with improved survival, whereas regulatory T-cell infiltration and immunosuppressive stromal interactions are associated with poor outcomes. Emerging therapeutic strategies targeting the TIME (e.g., CAFs), immune checkpoint inhibitors, and TIL-based therapies offer the potential to overcome resistance. Future research must focus on optimizing immunotherapy strategies and unravelling the complex stromal-immune interactions to improve clinical translation.

The right to rest and disconnect in the Slovenian legal system – a legal reform in the making
Iza Beširević, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The author discusses the legal aspects of the regulation of the right to daily and weekly rest and right to disconnect. The primary focus is on the study of Slovenian normative legal framework (with an emphasis on the amendment to the Employment Relationships Act, through which Slovenia regulated the right to disconnect). The measures to ensure the right to disconnect that employers must adopt (until 16th November 2024) should be, if possible, established through the collective agreement at the sector level. However, if a collective agreement with relevant content is not concluded, employers will have to adopt the measures themselves in their general acts. Following the review of sector collective agreements in the Republic of Slovenia (in September 2024), the author concludes that most collective agreements do not yet regulate the right to disconnect, and those that do, lack the necessary measures. Therefore, the inclusion of the right to disconnect at the statutory level has, so far, not resulted in any amendments to collective agreements regarding the right to disconnect. It should be noted that further research (of this kind) will have to be carried out in the forthcoming period in order to fully assess the impact of the legal reform in question.

Evaluating middle-distance passenger transportation : a comparison of the time efficiency, sustainability, and break-even distances between high-speed-rail and air travel in Sweden
Martin Fale, Tomaž Kramberger, Bojan Rupnik, Shen Lixin, Tea Vizinger, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Debate regarding the use of airplanes or high-speed trains in middle-distance passenger transportation has evolved into a strong field of research. With the aim to mitigate the environmental footprint of air travel, the European Union’s initiatives are focused on redirecting passengers from airplanes to high-speed trains. This shift is hampered by significant variations in train accessibility across Europe. Using Sweden as an example, we tested the break-even distance and evaluated the findings from both a time-efficiency perspective and a sustainability perspective. Airplanes hold the upper hand on high-speed trains in middle-distance passenger transportation from the time perspective. This perspective provides us with a clear answer, but if we consider the sustainability perspective, it may affect the results. The results indicate that the presented proof of concept makes sense and can be easily adapted to any decision-making process regarding the choice of the preferable transportation mode, although the procedure is extremely time consuming. For policymakers, this proof of concept can represent a priceless tool because the resulting figures carry valuable information about (under)developed and (less-)integrated transportation modes in commuting and transportation systems.

The analysis of nostalgia in George Orwell’s novel Coming up for air from the perspective of discourse and philosophy : master's thesis
Gaber Bobek, 2025, magistrsko delo

Opis: The thesis explores the theme of nostalgia in George Orwell’s novel Coming Up for Air from various analytical perspectives. The research is made possible by the novel’s detailed story, which captures the tensions between the individual and a rapidly modernising world in pre-World War II Britain. The work is structured into three main sections. First, the theoretical framework provides an overview of different definitions and interpretations of nostalgia from literature, history, and cultural studies. Second, various philosophical perspectives examine the relationship between nostalgia, personal identity, and the individuals’ ways of approaching the memory. From the standpoint of existentialism and the self, the thesis investigates how the protagonist, George Bowling, experiences nostalgia as a mechanism for self-definition. The thesis argues that nostalgia distorts the temporal order, merging past and present into a seamless but fictional continuum. The political philosophy and modernity perspectives place the main character’s nostalgia within the broader socio-political status of 20th century Britain. Orwell employs nostalgia to critique the oppressive forces of industrialisation, totalitarian governance, and capitalist consumerism. Third, the linguistic analysis applies Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), using the discourse system framework developed by authors Martin and Rose (2007), to examine how Orwell’s language constructs the protagonist’s nostalgic experience. The analysis looks at how Orwell’s linguistic features show Bowling’s emotional attachment to the past and his disappointment with the present. Engagement is analysed to reveal how the protagonist’s reflections position the reader within his subjective perspective.
