2. AI is here to stay : an empirical study of attitudes among teachers of English and GermanSaša Jazbec, Bernarda Leva, Marta Licardo, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a disruptor increasingly impacting foreign language learning and teaching. This paper explores the theoretical framework of AI, its application in foreign language teaching, and the question of whether AI is displacing foreign language teachers. The empirical part presents findings from a survey of English and German teachers (n = 112) in Slovenian primary and secondary schools regarding their views on AI in foreign language teaching. Statistical analysis reveals a constructively critical attitude towards AI among teachers, acknowledging its presence in and influence on teaching strategies, methods, and teacher roles but not perceiving it as a fundamental threat. Furthermore, statistical tests and correlations indicate no significant differences in attitude towards AI in the classroom based on whether they are English or German teachers or whether they work in primary or secondary schools. V empiričnem delu predstavljamo izsledke raziskave, v kateri so svoja stališča o UI pri pouku tujega jezika izrazili učitelji in učiteljice angleščine in nemščine (n = 112) v osnovnih in srednjih šolah v Sloveniji. 3. Games and songs in early English and German language learning in kindergarten : a comparison of practitioners' perspectivesJulija Tertinek, 2025, magistrsko delo Opis: This master’s thesis analyses early foreign language learning, specifically the learning of English and German, in Slovenian kindergartens, with a particular emphasis on the implementation of games and songs in language instruction. The primary aim of this thesis is to investigate teachers’ attitudes and experiences regarding early foreign language teaching in practice. As such, the research focuses on several key areas: teaching methods, the availability and use of teaching materials and the prevalence of songs and games during lessons.
The theoretical part provides an overview of early foreign language learning, including the benefits of early exposure, the influence of age, teaching approaches and strategies, teacher competences and the role of materials, games and songs in early foreign language acquisition. It also examines the Slovenian context, addressing how early language learning is regulated and supported by the National Preschool Curriculum and the availability of formal training for teachers.
The empirical part combines qualitative and quantitative research methods. The qualitative method includes six semi-structured interviews with teachers/preschool teachers of English and German from Maribor and the surrounding area. The quantitative method includes a questionnaire, distributed to kindergartens across various regions of Slovenia and completed by 64 respondents. Together, these approaches complement the theoretical framework and provide valuable insight from practitioners into how foreign languages are taught in practice and aid in identifying areas where improvements could be made. 8. Beiträge zur deutschen und slowenischen Phraseologie und ParömiologieVida Jesenšek, 2021, znanstvena monografija Opis: The monograph consists of three parts. Twelve contributions presented on several aspects of German and Slovenian phraseology represent a selection of authors phraseological studies, mostly related to the language contrastive (German-Slovene) research topic. Part I deals with typical aspects of proverbs from the perspective of system-related research. This is followed by contributions on the lexicographical and translational problems of phraseology (Part II). The volume ends with reflections on appropriate treatment of phraseology in the learning and teaching contexts (Part III). German as the primary language of observation plays an important role in all the contributions because its status as an influential language in Slovenia is increasingly challenged. It is worth mentioning that in the past, German used to exert much greater historical, cultural, and linguistic influence on the Slovenian society. By combining different research perspectives and linguistic contrastive approaches, the volume intends to appeal to linguists as well as practising translators and language teachers. 9. Use of animated songs in early teaching of English and GermanJanja Stariha, 2019, magistrsko delo Opis: This MA thesis deals with animated songs and their use in early foreign language teaching. In the theoretical part I have described child development, first and second language acquisition, multimedia, foreign language teaching and the use of songs in the classroom. As the literature on animated songs has not yet been developed, I have turned to theory on multimedia, music and art to formulate a set of criteria for easier choice of animated songs for use in class. In the empirical part I have chosen some high quality, didactically apropriate animated songs. Content, sound, music, text, design, animation, multimedia learning theories, art theory and didactics were taken into account. The final part of the paper shows the results of a questionnaire that was forwarded to Slovenian teachers who teach children aged 3–11 to see to what extent they know and use animated songs. Nowadays acces to songs is no longer a problem so it is important for teachers to know how to evaluate multimedia materials. There are both favorable opinions and cautions regarding technology use in childhood, so good judgement is needed. The choice and use of animated songs in the young learner classroom should be didactically justified. 10. Russian borrowings in the Volga German dialect in Russel County, KansasMaria Khramova, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The present paper is based on a field investigation of the Volga German community in Russell County, Kansas. It provides a short overview of linguistic research, conducted on Volga German dialects in Kansas, and further analyses a list of Russian borrowings that was compiled in Russell in 1913. This contribution also addresses the disputable etymology of some words and expressions and discusses the lexical items from the list of 1913 that were retained in the dialect. Analysis of additional sources shows that some words that are traditionally treated as Russian borrowings acquired on the Volga may have been part of speakers’ lexicon prior to emigration and could have been borrowed from other Slavic languages.
