Simulation of Dual-Beam Laser Metal DepositionMatej Kočevar

Opis: Laser metal deposition process plays an important role in the coating and additive manufacturing of the components. Implementation of dual-beam process represents a further development and offers the advantage of laser ablation process, which provides exert force on the melt pool and increases absorption properties of the workpiece for laser light in comparison to conventional laser metal deposition processes.
The main goal of the present work is to predict temperature distribution on the surface and in the cross-section during a dual-beam laser metal deposition. A better understanding of temperature distribution of the dual-beam laser metal deposition is crucial for analyzing the impact of different process parameters on the process. The prediction of temperature distribution was done using the version 6.14-6 of finite element software ABAQUS/Standard from Dassault Systèmes. The results of the simulations show that the temperature distribution in the case of dual-beam laser metal deposition can be determined with minimum deviation by utilizing the finite element analysis.

Opis: Reporting is present in every company. Whether it is small or big, it cannot be avoided. It plays a crucial role in the process and progress of business. The quality of reporting affects the development of the work environment and the company. Since business report is a document that contains business information, which supports the decisions about the future-oriented business decisions, it is very important for it to be designed in such a way that it contains the key information for the recipient and provides support for business decisions. The reporting process can take place horizontally upwards or downwards. Content and structure vary depending on the recipient of the report. We live in an age when our every step is accompanied by digitization, computerization, artificial intelligence, mass data, the Internet of Things, machine learning, and robotics. These changes have also affected the reporting process as well as its processes. The processes of data acquisition, processing and sharing have changed. Furthermore, the data quantity has increased, whereas the speed of the time in which to prepare the reports has decreased. We can have data without information, but we cannot have information without data. There is never enough time, especially nowadays when we are used to having everything at our fingertips. These are two conflicting factors – having more data and less time to prepare quality reports. The systems are developed to optimize the process, increase efficiency and quality and, what is nowadays most important, they have been created to obtain mass data in the shortest possible time. Therefore, it is important to adapt and implement software that can help achieve our daily tasks. We must know how to process huge amounts of real-time data and deliver the information they contain. It is crucial for companies to keep up with the environment and implement changes and innovations into their business process. A company is like a living organism for it must constantly evolve and grow. As soon as it stops growing and evolving, it can fail because it starts lagging and is therefore no longer competitive to others. To deliver faster feedback, companies need data of better quality. There are tools that can improve the business process, better facilitating the capacity of the human agents. The goal is to harness the employees’ full potential and knowledge for important tasks, such as analyzing, reviewing, and understanding data and acting upon them, invoking information technology to automate repetitive processes and facilitate better communication.
The focus in this master’s thesis is on the reporting process in Group X. Group X is one of the world leaders in the automotive industry, a multinational corporation based in Canada with subsidiaries around the world. The complexity of the business reporting that is implemented for the Headquarters in Canada has to address the complexity of the multinational corporation to support the decision process.
The aim of the thesis is to propose a reporting process for preparing and producing reports with a huge amount of data in a very time-efficient manner. We start by examining the existing processes and upon that, identifying the processes required for the reports to reach the final recipients. Our goal is to identify the toolset, which would increase efficiency, accuracy, credibility, and reduce errors in the fastest possible time. We investigate a short-term and a long-term solution. By a short-term solution, we mean a system, program, or a tool that can help us increase our potential by using digital resources, which are already existing in the organization. By a long-term solution, we mean a solution, which requires employment of specialized future tools in the field of reporting and in repetitive processes, which we can identify with current knowledge and expectations for development. This includes machine learning, robotic process automatization, artificial intelligence.

Assessment of the innovation system in SMEs using innovation taxonomy and pondering methodsAna Gallardo Gandarillas

Opis: In this bachelor thesis, the different types of innovation within a company are studied and analysed. The companies studied are SMEs i.e. from 10 to 250 employees. Smaller companies are mainly confronted with the problem of resources and larger companies with their strategic orientation. We have studied the ten types of innovations according to Doblin (Doblin 2014), and we realise that they have a rather marketing-oriented focus, so we analyse five groups of innovations that we consider to be the key (marketing, product, organisational, business model and technological innovation). Five groups of innovations have been weighed on a scale from 0 to 100 % according to their importance to contribute to the economic success of the company. All groups have been weighted and ranked in order of priority to initiate the innovation process in the SME, starting with marketing, followed by product, technological, organisational and business model innovations. We found innovation process needs to be implemented as a continuous cyclical process. If the company wants to be successful, it is a continuous cycle model, which should never stop. Once a particular innovation is chosen, it will be studied and tested whether the investment can be successful. If so investment process will be executed, if not, the cycling process will start again until gives a positive result. This way one of the innovation is recognized as most important according to circumstances in SME involved at a certain moment.

Improving comprehension of process diagrams with Graphical highlightsGregor Jošt

Opis: The main purpose of business process diagrams is to facilitate the communication between the process-related stakeholders, which directly affects the decision-making. For this reason, they must be easy to understand. However, this is often challenging to achieve, since business process diagrams can become large and complex. This, in turn, can negatively affect their correctness and understandability. The goal of this doctoral thesis was to propose and investigate an approach that makes business process diagrams appear less complex, without changing the corresponding diagrammatic notation or the business process diagrams themselves. This was done by manipulating the opacity of graphical elements in order to emphasize the important parts of a business process diagram by lowlighting the irrelevant ones. The proposed solution, named Emphasis, implemented with opacity-based Graphical Highlight pattern, abbreviated as simply Graphical highlights, was subsequently applied to sample business process diagram, modeled in Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). The analysis demonstrated that the structural complexity of the business process diagrams decreased when the proposed solution was applied. Afterwards, a Web application prototype was implemented, which supports the proposed set of Graphical highlights.
Furthermore, we empirically validated whether Graphical highlights positively impact cognitive effectiveness of business process diagrams, and if the users will find the prototype implementation useful. To this end, an experimental research, which included 85 participants, was conducted. The participants were randomly assigned in either the treatment group (Graphical highlights diagram representation approach), or the control group (conventional diagram representation approach). In accordance with the definition of cognitive effectiveness, speed, ease, and accuracy of answering 26 comprehension questions were observed, along with the perceived usefulness of the prototype. The results of the analysis demonstrated that participants who used Graphical highlights significantly outperformed those that used the conventional approach in all experiment's observations.
We can conclude that using Graphical highlights increases the cognitive effectiveness of business process diagrams, while the corresponding prototype implementation is perceived as being useful.

Performance indicators of management buyouts using the analytic hierarchy process methodPetra Grah

Opis: Background and Purpose: In Slovenia, few management buyout (MBO) studies have been carried out. The focus was mostly on the motives for acquisition of companies and the success rate of the acquisitions. This paper aims to analyse the indicators which suggest an impending bankruptcy or financial restructuring of companies and explore how these indicators are different for successful and unsuccessful MBOs.
Methodology: In the survey, we included 23 selected MBOs in Slovenia between 2005 and 2008, using the following financial and non-financial indicators: profitability, performance, solvency and liquidity, using the analytic hierarchy process method. The key aim of the survey was to use financial and non-financial indicators to study if target companies where bankruptcy or financial restructuring has not yet been initiated prevalently have higher aggregate values compared to those in which bankruptcy or financial restructuring procedures have already begun. Thus, we used the selected indicators to demonstrate one of the possible methods to predict the success of a particular MBO.
Results: We found that in most examples of unsuccessful MBOs, target companies have poorer results in terms of performance, solvency and liquidity, when compared to successful MBOs. Based on the selected areas, we divided the results into four quarters. We found that most target companies where MBOs had been unsuccessful are ranked in a lower quarter than most of the target companies where the MBOs had been successful.
Conclusion: The papers main contribution is the finding that the selected financial and non-financial indicators differ in cases of successful and unsuccessful MBOs. This knowledge helps us to find ways of avoiding these situations in the future.

Legal aspects of enlargement of the European UnionSzilvia Váradi

Opis: The pulling power of the European Union has helped to transform Central and Eastern European countries into modern, well-functioning democracies. Regarding its integration activities, enlargement is one of the EU’s most powerful policy tools. This paper analyses the legal basis of the enlargement of the EU embodied in Art. 49 of the Treaty of the European Union, which is a result of an evolution lasting for nearly 70 years, but this evolution has not been finished, because there are still unclarified and open issues regarding the legal regulations. This paper overviews the accession criteria, finds that the enlargement process found in this Art. and in practice reveals some hiatuses of the legal basis of the enlargement and proposes to extend the enlargement clause with the basic procedural rules, fundamental principles and the conditions for membership developed in practice.

Opis: The focus of this work is to provide a numerical formulation for coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in unsaturated expansive clays, especially in compacted bentonite, with a multiphase fluid flow. The model is characterized by the presence of a deformable solid matrix filled with two fluid phases (liquid water and air). In the proposed model, both pore-water and air transfers are assumed to be governed by the generalized Darcy’s law. Fully coupled, nonlinear partial differential equations are established and then solved by using a Galerkin weighted residual approach in the space domain and an implicit integrating scheme in the time domain. The model has been validated against an experimental test from the literature, which involves bentonite under laboratory conditions. The calculated relative errors between the experimental and numerical results are 3% for the temperature and 7% for the stresses. Consequently, the developed numerical model predicts satisfactory results, when compared to the experimental test measures. The model is applicable to two-dimensional problems with various initial and boundary conditions; non linear soil parameters can be easily included in this model.

Opis: This paper investigates the relationship between the dimensions of the decision-making process quality and company performance of top managers’ in Slovenia. We found out that companies whose managers exhibit an above-average dimension of openness of spirit in the quality of the decision making process, on average, have a higher stance on foreign markets as companies in which managers show a below-average open spirit. For the managers who work in companies that are present in foreign markets, we could confirm that there is a low/weak correlation between the dimension of effort of the decision-making process quality and the number of employees in a company.
