Opis: The idea for the diploma thesis arouse from the fact that technology and the Internet are still not widely used in the English classroom. When thinking about how to integrate technology in the classroom I was inspired by different web sites which offer a vast variety of authentic as well as ELT-specific materials that can be used in the English classroom. I decided to focus on developing intercultural competence with information and communication technology by extending the intercultural topics covered in the coursebooks for students at secondary level.
In the theoretical part of my thesis I present the notion of intercultural competence as defined by different authors. A special emphasis is given to developing of intercultural competence in the English classroom, including planning lessons to develop intercultural competence. In the third chapter the information and communication technology (ICT) and the English classroom is covered. Some possibilities of using ICT in the English classroom in terms of Web 2.0 are presented, which is the basis for the empirical part.
In the empirical part of my thesis the activities to extend the intercultural topics covered in coursebooks are planned and presented. Since all activities are planned to be done online, they are available also on the Internet.

MODEL USPOSABLJANJA ZA VZDRŽEVANJE OSNOVNIH SREDSTEVSara Božič

Opis: V današnjem času ima skoraj vsaka organizacija informacijski sistem, s katerim podpira svoje procese. Z uvajanjem informacijskih sistemov v organizacije se poleg vsega pojavi tudi problem izobraževanja in navajanja ljudi, zaposlenih v organizaciji, na nov informacijski sistem. V Nuklearni elektrarni Krško so pred kratkim zamenjali svoj informacijski sistem. V diplomski nalogi je predstavljen način, kako naj se lotijo izobraževanja zaposlenih na področju vzdrževanja osnovnih sredstev. Predstavljena sta dva modula izobraževanja, ki ju ponuja Oracle, in sicer Oracle Learning Management in Oracle iLearning. Ugotovljeno je bilo, da je v danem primeru primernejši modul Learning Management. Predstavljeno je tudi orodje Oracle User Productivity Kit, ki omogoča razvijanje učne vsebine in lahek dostop končnim uporabnikom (udeležencem izobraževanja). V primeru Nuklearne elektrarne Krško je bilo ugotovljeno, da je orodje Oracle User Productivity Kit primerno, ker omogoča učenje s pomočjo vaj.

THE RAILWAY CHILDREN - READING THE NOVEL AND VOCABULARY IN ITŠpela Žibert

Opis: In my diploma paper I write about reading the novel in a foreign language, that is English in this case, and acquiring vocabulary from it. The novel is The Railway Children written by Edith Nesbit.
The paper is about reading as a process, reading as a skill, reading strategies and styles, reading techniques, problems and difficulties that learners have to deal with when reading.
I also studied learning vocabulary and learning vocabulary from the novel. I mentioned anticipated problems and experience from my teaching practice.
I chose this subject because I teach in a primary school where the learners in the ninth grade attend the English competition every year and this is the literary work they have to read for it.
They have to deal with formal language, spoken language and direct speech which is written phonetically. There are also old-fashioned expressions and phrases that had to be interpreted.

Opis: Das Thema der Diplomarbeit ist Spielend Deutsch lernen mithilfe von Online-Lernspielen. Der Autor beschrieben und erklärt im theoretischen Teil Begriffe, wie: die Medien, das Spiel, die Online-Lernspiele und den Begriff »Digital Game Based Learning«. Er hat die gesetzten Ziele erreicht und herausgefunden, wie wichtig das Lernen mithilfe von Online-Lernspielen für das Lernen der Zukunft ist.
In dem empirischen Teil hat er Beispiele von Online-Lernspielen gefunden und sie dann mithilfe von Analysebögen analysiert. Den Analysebogen hat er für Lehrer erstellt, damit sie leichter die Online-Lernspiele beurteilen. Mit der Hilfe von Aufbaukriterien für die Online-Lernspiele und den theoretischen Wissen, hat er das am besten geeignete, fiktive Online-Lernspiel für das Lernen des Deutschen als Fremdsprache beschrieben. Mit diesem Online-Lernspiel würden die Schuler besser und effizienter Deutsch als Fremdsprache lernen.

E-learning environment integration in the chemical engineering educational processMajda Krajnc

Opis: This paper introduces the electronic Portal, reports on the experiences of its use, shows how it motivates students towards more successful study, encourages lecturers to give better lectures, enhances learning, and so reduces workloads. A group of students from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in Maribor have used this Portal in their Process Synthesis Course for the last four years. Their responses to e-learning and the Portal were collected by means of a questionnaire. The students thought that the Portal was an effective tool that helped them to improve the quality and efficiency of their studies. They thought a combination of lectures and elearning to be the most suitable solution for them because it gives a freedom of choice in methods and time devoted to studying. They suggest that this kind of arrangement would be beneficial for use in the future. These statements could motivate college students to choose studies at departments that use modern technologies within the educational process and thus increase the enrolment in those departments. The faculties' responses to using the Portal are also presented. The results of their questionnaires were not as encouraging as the students'. A few lecturers had already used certain functions of the Portal but, in general, they thought that the incorporation of e-learning into the educational process means a heavier workload and is time-consuming. Perhaps the experiences of the lecturer for the Process Synthesis Course, who has been using e-learning for several years, will demonstrate that the incorporation of e-learning into the educational process leads to a heavier workload at the start, but this reduces over time. Perhaps this experience will encourage the faculty to reconsider.

Opis: In the paper a remote lab experiment RC oscillator used to support Web based learning, to support learning by doing, to learn control design and to minimize the gap between theory and practice is presented. The experiment was designed with a special care for visualisation of important control design parameters in Bode plot and Root-Locus diagram. The experiment is based on MATLAB, LABview and DSP2 learning module. Using RC oscillator experiment RC circuit step response based or sinusoidal response based analysis, P controller design using Bode plot or Root-locus, relations between control design parameters and control performance and discrepancy between theory and practice could be covered. A homework based on RC oscillator experiment is presented and obtained experiences are discussed.
