AWARENESS, POSITIONING AND A SELLING PROCESS APPROACH OF HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES

Opis: The main purpose of this master thesis was it, to figure out the market position of the Gorenje brand and his main rivals Bosch, Zanussi, Whirlpool and Miele on the Czech, Slovakian, Austrian, Slovenian and Croatian market of household appliances. Firstly branding, brand awareness, positioning and fundamental psychological knowledge in respect to consumer awareness were explained. Afterwards the survey was made. Lastly the analysis and the report of the research were committed. Positioning is a marketing strategy which focuses on a creation of a unique image. The effort should distinguish itself from the offers of the competition to be truly exclusive. Especially among inexperienced consumers brand awareness is of crucial importance. In regard to branding, it can be said that developing a decade- long brand identity can be a very positive situation, to put higher prices due to the tradition on a certain market. Many brands from the 19.and the beginning of 20. century are still existing and performing very well. If we compare the 5 household appliances markets between themselves, then major dissimilarities were visible in the research. The geographical distance cannot be the primary cause of this diverse condition. Language barriers preclude any real spiritual interchange among ordinary people of happening in large extent. Hence the German-speaking Austrians favor German brands, and Slovenians and Croatians prefer Gorenje, due to their common history and similar language. The respondents do not think that any of the brands is of low quality. In the field of consumer perception it could be acknowledged that a brand having the best quality and at the same time offering the cheapest price does not exist in any of the researched markets. Such expectations are also not realistic. In every economical sector brands with higher reputation of quality try to set higher prices, to make by this means higher profits possible.

Wormlion Vermileo vermileo (l.) (Diptera: Vermileonidae) in Slovenia and Croatia

Opis: The occurrence of the wormlion species Vermileo vermileo (Linneeus, 1758) is confirmed for the Mediterranean region of Slovenia and Croatia. Its predatory larvae were found in substrates consisting of fine sand or powder, where they construct pitfall traps similar to those of antlions. Wormlion larvae were reared in laboratory to study their biology.

Methodical competence of teacher trainees in their written teacher certification examination

Opis: The paper discusses methodical competence of teacher trainees in their written papers composed as part of their teacher certification examination. The aim of this discourse is to establish the existence of methodical competence of Croatian language teacher trainees in their written teacher certification examination. The paper focuses on the following categories: the application of theoretical methodical knowledge of basic sciences and special theoretical methodical knowledge, supporting theoretical knowledge and practical experience with examples, and finding references in literature on methodology. The research was conducted on 58 written papers of Croatian language teacher trainees in primary and secondary schools in the following counties: Istria, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Lika-Senj, Zagreb, Međimurje, Varaždin, Osijek-Baranja, Brod-Posavina, Požega-Slavonia, and Virovitica-Podravina. Based on this research study it was established that Croatian language teacher trainees show methodical competence especially with regard to the application of theoretical methodical knowledge of basic sciences and special theoretical methodical knowledge and references in literature on methodology.

Germination characteristics of Salicornia patula Duval-Jouve, S. emerici Duval-Jouve, and S. veneta Pign. et Lausi and their occurrence in Croatia

Opis: According to recent molecular analyses of Salicornia, we revised the annual glassworts from the Croatian coast, classified until now only as Salicornia europaea. Two species, a diploid Salicornia patula and a tetraploid S. emerici were recognized. They can be easily distinguished by floral characters, but not only by their habitus, which varies extremely according to environmental factors. Both species differ also in seed morphology. Salicornia patula has dimorphic seeds, with larger central seeds reaching high germination rates. Germination patterns helped to explain the habitat preferences. The species rarely co-occur, however. The rare S. patula occupies drier habitats, on coastal mudflats or sands that are irregularly inundated. It occurs within the assoc. Suaedo maritimae-Salicornietum patulae. Salicornia emerici occupies the lowest coastal mudflats, regularly inundated, where nutrient-rich conditions prevail, and forms an almost monotypical assoc. Salicornietum emerici. Due to the synonymy of S. veneta with S. emerici, we exclude the occurrence of S. veneta in Croatia as an independent taxon.

Least adder's-tongue (Ophioglossum lusitanicum L.) in Croatia - distribution, ecology and conservation

Opis: The presence of the least adder's tongue (Ophioglossum lusitanicum) in Croatia is sparsely documented in scientific literature, with only a few records to date. After findings from the 19th century, the species was not confirmed in the field for a whole century, and was consequently considered extinct in the Croatian flora. It has been recently confirmed in southern Istria (Croatia), in habitats with moderate anthropogenic impacts.

Dependence between Croatian and European stock markets

Opis: The objective of this paper is to analyze dependence structure between the returns of Croatian and five European stock markets (Austrian, French, German, Italian, and the U.K.ʼs). We propose a copula GARCH approach, where the return series are modeled as univariate GARCH processes and the dependence structure between the return series is defined by a copula function. Four different copulas are fitted - a constant and conditional normal and symmetric Joe-Clayton (SJC) copulas - and estimated by a semi-parametric method. We found that the time-varying normal copula yields the best fit for CROBEX-CAC40, CROBEX-DAX, and CROBEX-FTSE-MIB stock indices pairs, while the time-varying SJC copula is the best fit for CROBEX-ATX and CROBEX-FTSE100. Further, we found that the probability of simultaneous extreme positive and negative returns in Croatian and other European stock markets can increase to 0.77 during turbulent times. The lower and upper tail dependence dynamics between Croatian and other European stock markets is similar in pattern, differing only in scale. The basic conclusion of the research is that the dependence between the stock markets of Croatia and five major European stock markets is dynamic and can be properly captured by either a dynamic normal or symmetrized Joe-Clayton copula GARCH models.

Long memory in the Croatian and Hungarian stock market returns

Opis: The objective of this paper is to analyze and compare the fractal structure of the Croatian and Hungarian stock market returns. The presence of long memory components in asset returns provides evidence against the weak-form of stock market effi ciency. The starting working hypothesis that there is no long memory in the Croatian and Hungarian stock market returns is tested by applying the Kwiatkowski-Phillips-Schmidt-Shin (KPSS) (1992) test, Loʼs (1991) modified rescaled range (R/S) test, and the wavelet ordinary least squares (WOLS) estimator of Jensen (1999). The research showed that the WOLS estimator may lead to different conclusions regarding long memory presence in the stock returns from the KPSS and unit root tests or Loʼs R/S test. Furthermore, it proved that the fractal structure of individual stock returns may be masked in aggregated stock market returns (i.e. in returns of stock index). The main finding of the paper is that both the Croatian stock index Crobex and individual stocks in this index exhibit long memory. Long memory is identified for some stocks in the Hungarian stock market as well, but not for the stock market index BUX. Based on the results of the long memory tests, it can be concluded that while the Hungarian stock market is weak form efficient, the Croatian stock market is not.

SMS communication - Croatian SMS language features as compared with those in German and English speaking countries

Opis: SMS is a relatively new asynchronous communication form, generally accepted in Croatia, where the number of mobile phones surpasses the number of the inhabitants. A language analysis of the corpus of SMS messages has been done for the purpose of this investigation, with the aim to examine the type of communication involved, and to establish whether the language in the Croatian SMS messages differs from those in German and English. It has been found that the limit of 160 characters in a single message presents a basic determining factor of the SMS discourse, as it requires utmost economy of the language used, i.e. briefness (saving the effort, space, time and money). The language analysis performed has also shown that SMS messages are used to communicate almost any topic of everyday life, as well as that, apart from numerous elements of deviation from the accepted language standards, they exhibit a lot of abbreviations, together with graphostylistic signs (emoticons) and Anglicisms. The language used in Croatian SMS messages does not differ significantly from that used in English or German messages of the same type.

Determinants of entrepreneurial intentions in ICT industry

Opis: Although many researchers agree that environmental and personal characteristics are important for becoming an entrepreneur, it is still not clear if their influence is equally significant. Numerous authors have pointed out unresolved matters regarding the relationship among innovativeness, gender, and entrepreneurial intensions. The aim of this paper is to explore the impact of gender and country of origin in relation to entrepreneurial intentions and innovative cognitive style. Research was conducted using a sample of students majoring in information and communication technologies from Croatia and Slovenia. The results revealed the influence of gender, country, attitudes toward entrepreneurship, and innovative cognitive style on entrepreneurial intentions.
