Elektronsko bančništvo Addiko Bank d. d.

Opis: Banke se v današnjem svetu morajo truditi za svoj obstoj, za to so primorane slediti določenim trendom. Eden izmed njih je poslovanje na daljavo, kar jim omogoča sodobna informacijska tehnologija, ki je pospešila razvoj elektronskega bančništva - poslovanje med komitentom in banko preko spleta. Elektronsko bančništvo je v večji meri nadomestilo bančno poslovanje z bankomati, plačilnimi karticami in poslovanje preko telefona, in tako komitentu olajšalo opravljanje različnih bančnih in finančnih storitev kar od doma. Elektronsko bančništvo se je razvilo z namenom olajšati stik komitenta z banko. Tako se je pokazalo veliko prednosti tovrstnega poslovanja, kot je prihranek časa, poti v banko, nižje stroške poslovanja in vrsto drugih ugodnih pogojev. Diplomski seminar bo sestavljen iz teoretičnega in empiričnega dela, ki bo predstavljal zadnji del. V teoretičnem delu bodo predstavljeni različni pojmi, ki se bodo nadgrajevali od razlage pojmov s širšim pomenom, do tistih z ožjim pomenom. Tako bo teoretični del zajemal opredelitev elektronskega poslovanja, ki je opredeljeno s številnimi definicijami, vrste elektronskega poslovanja in najpomembnejše razloge za razvoj elektronskega poslovanja. Sledila bo opredelitev elektronskega bančništva, opis njegovega razvoja, nasveti za varno uporabo elektronskega bančništva, ter prednosti in slabosti tako za komitente, kakor tudi za banke. V tem delu bomo opisali še značilnosti elektronskega bančništva in njegove sestavne dele. V zadnjem delu bomo podrobno predstavili elektronsko bančništvo Addiko Bank, d. d. in spletno banko Addiko E-Bank.

Corporate governance of banks in Poland and Slovenia

Opis: This paper focuses on the analysis of the characteristics of corporate governance in banks in Poland and Slovenia between 2005 and 2013. It studies the impact of corporate governance in these banks on their performance. The results of our research show that Slovenia achieved lower average scores for the variables and indicators related to the transparency of corporate governance than Poland. The density of banks with the highest corporate governance index scores was higher in Poland than in Slovenia. When examining the impact of corporate governance on bank performance as measured with net interest income, the regression analysis showed that its impact is positive in both countries and that it is statistically significant in Slovenia.

Is trust in banks in Slovenia put to the test?

Opis: The question of the banking system´s stability in connection to trust since the 2008 crisis has been the subject of many debates seeking to find permanent solutions to banking system problems, as the current situation affects bank customers´ behavior. This article examined trust in banks during the financial crisis and offers, via demographic variables, explanations as tow whether or not customers tend to withdraw their deposits during a crisis. The results contribute to banks´ decision-making regarding deposits management and understanding customers´ behavior, especially during a crisis. The results show a negative relationship between trust and deposit withdrawal intention, where gender and education level play an important role.

RISK MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Opis: The topic of this Master’s Thesis is risk management support systems for banking industry. The research was focused on Russian Federation banking system. Risk management is an important part of bank management. The banking sector is one of the most sensitive ones for currency fluctuation, economical as well as political instability. And it is necessary to be able to forecast future risks and prepare the banks to meet them, as well as to create the most suitable way to treat these risks. Risk management in banks has changed substantially over the past ten years. In conditions of uncertainty and rapidly changing world banks have to introduce innovative approaches and mechanisms to risk management. Now banks use IT tools and automated systems for managing the risk. The case study was chosen for empirical part of research. As an example, the largest bank of Russian Federation banking industry – PJSC “Sberbank” was taken. The empirical analysis was conducted with two research hypotheses. The purpose of H1 was to define the stage of use of automated risk management systems in Russia. It was accepted; the Russian banking sector is on early stage of use IT tools. However, the Russian software market is developing rapidly and can be called catching up. The purpose of H2 was to analyze the risk management support systems in the selected bank. The hypothesis was confirmed; the most important functionality of automated risk management system in Sberbank is credit risk management. Credit risk gives the bank "work". Credit operations of commercial banks are one of the most important types of banking activity. In the financial market, lending retains the position of the most lucrative asset line of credit institutions, although the most risky. The loan portfolio of banks averages 50‒70% of assets. Consequently, the credit risk in the structure of banking risk has a decisive influence on the performance of banks. The effectiveness of credit risk management is very important in the management of banking risk.

Digitalizacija v veliki zavarovalnici

Opis: Raziskali smo digitalizacijo v finančnih institucijah. V prvem delu smo prikazali celovit vidik digitalizacije, torej digitalne procese, digitalne produkte, digitalizacijo storitev in nove koncepte ter nove prodajne poti. Digitalizacija ima tudi velik vpliv v bankah in zavarovalnicah ter na njihovo poslovanje in ugotavljali smo, kako se to odraža na strankah. To smo tudi opredelili v drugem in tretjem poglavju. V drugem delu smo predstavili, kako pristopajo banke v Sloveniji in Evropi k digitaliziranosti poslovanja in s kakšnimi izzivi se pri tem soočajo. V tretjem poglavju smo predstavili digitalizacijo velike avstrijske zavarovalnice UNIQA, ki bo v naslednjih letih za digitalizacijo in IT modernizacijo namenila kar 500 milijonov evrov.

Bad bank and other possible banks' rescuing models

Opis: During the economic crisis, Slovenia has transformed from one of the most successful new EU Member States into one of the most problematic ones. The reason for this is largely extensive banking problems, that continue to cause uncertainty on financial markets and adversely affect the rating of the country and consequently also the price of borrowing for both the state and private entities. Slovenia has opted to rehabilitate its banking sector by means of a bad bank (DUTB) that, however, only became operational at the end of 2013. The paper seeks to examine whether a bad bank has indeed proven the most appropriate choice out of possible methods of resolving the banking crisis, based on the most recent findings regarding the suitability of various methods of bailing out banking systems in crisis, taking into consideration key elements required for the successful rehabilitation thereof. The paper finds that, taking into consideration all relevant circumstances, the bad bank has proven to be appropriate solution in the Slovenian case but the delay in rehabilitating the banking system has had significant negative macroeconomic impacts as demonstrated by a comparison to other selected countries that had opted to bail out the banking sector before Slovenia. State ownership of systemic banks and political instability have both greatly contributed to slow action taken.

Kreditna ponudba izbranih slovenskih bank za študente

Opis: Živimo v času, ko situacije v življenju postajajo vedno bolj nepredvidljive. Presenetijo nas različni dogodki in pojavijo se želje in potrebe za katere potrebujemo veliko finančnih sredstev. Študenti se morajo med svojim študentskim življenjem nemalokrat odpovedati svojim sanjam, saj za njih preprosto nimajo dovolj denarja. Če nam za uresničitev želja ne zadostujejo lastna finančna sredstva, se lahko kot rešitev pojavi tudi banka in njena kreditna ponudba, ki je prilagojena posameznim segmentom bančnih komitentov in torej tudi študentski populaciji. V delu diplomskega projekta smo raziskali, zakaj je študentsko populacijo potrebno obravnavati kot poseben segment. Ukvarjali smo se z osnovnim raziskovalnim vprašanjem; ali banke v slovenskem bančnem sistemu študente kot segment obravnavajo ločeno od ostalih fizičnih oseb. Za banko je izrednega pomena, da zna spoznati potrebe in želje njenih komitentov, ter, da na podlagi tega izoblikuje ustrezno prilagojeno ponudbo. Ugotovili smo, da so študenti za banke ena izmed najboljših priložnosti, namreč ko enkrat postanejo komitenti neke banke in so s ponudbo zadovoljni, ostanejo njihovi komitenti v večini primerov celo življenje. Po pregledu spletnih stranih izbranih bank smo ugotovili, da se študentska populacija obravnava kot poseben segment, saj se ponudbi namenjeni študentom in fizičnim osebam med seboj razlikujeta. Slovenske banke imajo v povprečju oblikovano posebno ponudbo študentskih kreditov.

Assessment of the state of competition in the banking market in the Russian Federation

Opis: Competition is one of the factors directly influencing the development of the banking market, the stability of the banking system, and the monetary system as a whole. This article describes the features of banking competition, methods of analysis of banking competition, and an analysis of the current state of competition in the banking market in the Russian Federation. The analysis of banking competition in the Russian Federation was performed using the concentration ratio for the top three companies and the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index. The research concludes with an assessment of the state of competition in the banking market and identification of the barriers to entering the financial services market.

Identification of hypothetical duplicate accessions of plums (Prunus domestica L.) within the Slovene Plant Gene Bank Collection using molecular markers

Opis: The main goal of the Slovene Plant Gene Bank is preservation, maintenance and evaluation of traditional cultivars and other useful genotypes. The Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences houses among other plant materials also numerous accessions of plums (Prunus domestica L.). Duplicates among 15 accessions were studied using six microsatellite primer pairs. These microsatellite markers revealed an average of 7.67 alleles per locus, and a range of 4 to 10 different alleles per locus. The genetic distances between studied accessions were calculated using the Dice coefficient to form a dendrogram. The six SSRs were found to be adequate for differentiating among genotypes within the collection. Among the analysed accessions no duplicates were found.

Are cooperative banks better equipped to weather financial crisis than their commercial counterparts?

Opis: Background and Purpose: The aim of this paper is to empirically investigate the performance of different types of Italian banks before and during the recent credit crisis with an emphasis on the behaviour of cooperative banks. It is well established in theory that cooperative banks follow more conservative business strategies and care more for stakeholders in comparison to commercial banks. On this background, the paper tries to show the empirical effects of those characteristics on the cooperative bank’s performance during financial distress compared to commercial banks. In fact, the paper can prove that Italian cooperative banks were less exposed to the shocks of the crisis and showed a better performance. Methodology: In order to assess whether cooperative banks performed differently at all from commercial banks during the 2005-2012 period, return on average assets (ROAA), cost efficiency and loan quality have been investigated by means of a sample of 594 Italian banks, pooled OLS and (when possible) a fixed effects estimator. Results: Overall, Italian cooperative banks performed better than other Italian banks during the financial crisis. The quality of loans deteriorated less in these banks than in others, while no significant differences have been observed in terms of ROAA and cost efficiency between these and other banks. Conclusion: My paper provides empirical evidence for a well established theoretically derived hypothesis: Italian cooperative banks operate differently than standard commercial banks which is especially noticeable during times of crisis. The fact empirically demonstrated that different banking models have shown different reactions to the financial crisis and economic downturn has important policy implications. Due to both characteristics of cooperative banks and severe limitations in the financial policies by the Italian government during the credit crisis an ironical pattern has emerged: While Italian cooperative banks were less exposed to the shocks of the crisis, they would have been less able to adjust to them since the financial rescue program was designed primarily for commercial banks.
