Grassland ecology in changing climate and land use
Zoltán Tuba, Mitja Kaligarič, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This brief overview decribes some structural and functional (including carbon cycling) aspects of grassland ecosystems, in particular with regard to the effects of global climate change and changes in land use. Afterward the papers briefly introduce the papers devoted to the above mentioned topics, which were selected for this special volume. As we can see, authors studied different kinds of management (including abandonment) and different parameters of climate change (CO2 , temperature, rainfall, etc.). They consider predominately vegetation parameters, including the various plant traits, carbon cycling, soil respiration and different ecophysiological traits in simulated climate change. Dealing with different impacts of climate and/or land-use changes on multi-species systems, that grassland communities certainly are, is exceeding merely experimental synthesized-community or single-species approach on one side and classical vegetation studies on the other. The complex responses of natural communities, including those under FACE systems, are not easy to interpret and understand. The importance of non-linear dynamics during climate changes is emphasized by Bartha et al. (2008). In these selected papers, grasslands appear to be a very dynamic and plastic ecosystem. Grasslands are highlighted from a new, much more topical point of view. Linking ecophysiology and vegetation science, which is characteristic for our selection of papers, is a promising tool to deal with problems on the ecosystem level in general, not only addressing the global climate change and land-use issues.

Preliminary estimation of bryophyte biomass and carbon pool from three contrasting different vegetation types
Mahesh Kumar Singh, Anita Juhász, Zsolt Csintalan, Mitja Kaligarič, Michal V. Marek, Otmar Urban, Zoltán Tuba, 2005, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Bryophytes are the primary form of carbon storage in many ecosystems. There is growing consensus within the scientific community that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) enhancing the earth's natural greenhouse effect. Because of the potential effects of these gases on the global enery budget and future elimate, there is an urgent need to quantify terrestrial sources and sinks of carbon. There is more carbon stored in some bryophytes than in any other genus of vascular or non-vascular plants (Clymo & Hayward, 1982). Predicting how the vast stores of carbon in moss-dominated ecosystems will be affected by anthropogenic disturbance is critical for models of global climate change (Post et al., 1982). Bryophytes are a prominent feature of many forest and grassland types, where they can make an important contribution to carbon balance (Delucia, et al., 2003). Tropical montane rain forest, because of their complexity and variety of microhabitats, usually harbors a rich diversity of bryophytes. Even though they are often small and inconspicuous, especially in the lowland forest, they may play a significant role in the forest ecosystem (Frahm, 1994). Similarly, bryophytes in the temperate forest and grasslands are thought to be an important carbon sink (O'Neill, 2000). The objective of this research was to estimate components of the bryophyte biomass and approximate amount of carbon stored in it.

Kakovost življenja starostnikov z depresijo
Zoltan Pap, 2013, diplomsko delo

Knowledge base of the region - role of the universities in regional innovation
Zoltán Gál, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The economic attraction and competitiveness of the regions depends on the spatially balanced network-based co-operation of different research bases and firms involved in innovation development. The utilisation of the regional knowledge base, innovation potential and co- operation between businesses and universities & research institutions continues to play an increasing role in regard to business success and the competitive economic performance of the regions. Innovation is considered as an interactive and system-like process depending on traditions with definite spatial forms and it is manifested in the form of “networks” among the companies and universities, and among the different transfer organisations, which can stimulate university-industry linkages. The paper presents the findings of the “ERAWATCH regional benchmarking surveys – in which the South Transdanubian region participated in – on innovation potential and investment into research” surveys concentrating on the role of innovation networks, within them highlighting the special role of regional universities in the collaborative research networks. The introduction is followed by a demonstration highlighting the role of universities in national and regional knowledge transfer emphasizing the fact that the spatial (regional) structure of innovation is very much determined by the transformation of potential universities and their widening innovative functions during the economic transition in Hungary. The next section provides an overview of findings of the ERAWATCH survey (2006) on the role of universities in regional network building and discusses those factors that are necessary for the establishment of a research university model. The last section assesses the efficiency and coherence of the Regional Innovation System with regard to the needs and capacities of the regional economies and the extent of matching or mismatching between the knowledge and economic specialization.

Changes in responsibilities and tasks of universities in regional innovation ecosystems
Zoltán Birkner, Tivadar Máhr, Nora Berkes Rodek, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Innovation process research is changing. In addition to the former territorial approach (examining countries or regions), the description of innovation cooperation in local areas is becoming more and more accepted. Instead of the innovation ability of the traditional large enterprises, research has begun to study the role of small and medium-sized enterprises, non-governmental organizations, local governments, and educational institutions (especially universities), which foreshadows the development of a new innovation system. In 2015, we conducted a study focusing on the civil and corporate relations of a major university. We tried to determine the new directions based on the economic and social cooperation as well as to search for the practical implementation of the theoretical helixes in these interactions. We came to the conclusion that universities not only are determinative according to the triple helix model but also have a prominent role in the creation of new innovation ecosystems, particularly in a well-defined geographical area.

Characteristics of innovation in regions with small- and medium-sized towns
Zoltán Birkner, Tivadar Máhr, Erzsébet Péter, Nora Berkes Rodek, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Globalisation “takes” its victims, which the authors believe means that the future of small- and medium-sized towns has become uncertain in Europe. The role of centres is continuously increasing, and most researchers prefer to analyse the competitiveness and innovativeness of metropolitan areas. In this study, we characterise the small- and medium-sized towns in the central–eastern European region as well as explore their possible development path. The authors are convinced that one way for these towns to survive is through strengthening of innovation abilities, which means increasing the innovation performances of economic stakeholders and new forms of interaction among other institutions in order to handle social problems. The theoretical starting point is the interpretation and presentation of the micropolitan (without big towns) regions as well as understanding the concept of technological and social innovation. As the result of the research, the innovation measurements carried out in some of the settlements will be represented. These experiences can help the small- and medium-sized towns keep up with global competition and cancel migration and erosion of intellectual potential.

Translation as the mutual reflection of neighbouring nations
Zoltán Virág, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the context of Kornél Szenteleky’s volumes of short stories, novels and essays, this essay examines the types of disposition, life experience, typical topographies and genres of the author’s epic works. The roles, stock of phrases and experiences of deprivation present in the world of Szenteleky’s short stories, novels and essays relate his prose to several authors of a significant trend in Croatian, Serbian and Slovenian literature. The essay observes the existential spaces and boundaries of Szenteleky’s oeuvre, viewing it as going along the trails of existential experience of multiethnicity, minority identity, peripheral existence, cultural crossroads and traumas.
