Ensuring corporate security and its strategic communication in healthcare institutions in Slovenia

Opis: Ensuring corporate security is an essential and critical component of any healthcare facility to provide safe services to its patients and employees. Healthcare facilities must employ a variety of strategies to ensure corporate security. This includes developing a comprehensive communication plan that defines the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders. The objective of our study was to present the concept of corporate security in healthcare institutions and in the Slovenian healthcare system, to highlight current threats in healthcare institutions in Slovenia, to describe the importance of strategic communication of corporate security in healthcare, and finally to define the current state of corporate security in Slovenian healthcare institutions in Slovenia. A survey was conducted and distributed to healthcare institutions in Slovenia to obtain results. A total of 154 healthcare stakeholders participated in our study. The results showed that corporate security is present in Slovenian healthcare facilities, but additional efforts are needed to improve it, especially considering the current challenges related to the measures taken after the COVID-19 epidemic and the shortage of healthcare personnel. The legal processes of corporate security in healthcare facilities comply with applicable laws and regulations to protect the interests of their patients and employees. Operational security processes are currently provided primarily by internal providers. There is a need for improvement, particularly in the training and education of staff, who play the most important role in ensuring safety. To effectively establish comprehensive corporate security, strategic communication with all stakeholders is essential to ensure that their security policies and procedures are properly implemented.

Zagotavljanje korporativne varnosti in njenega strateškega komuniciranja v zdravstvenih institucijah : magistrsko delo

Opis: Zagotavljanje korporativne varnosti je bistvena in kritična komponenta vsake zdravstvene ustanove za zagotavljanje varnih storitev svojim pacientom in zaposlenim. Zdravstvene ustanove morajo uporabiti različne strategije za zagotavljanje korporativne varnosti, ki pa hkrati vključuje razvoj celovitega komunikacijskega načrta, ki opredeljuje vloge in odgovornosti različnih deležnikov. Cilj zaključnega dela je predstaviti koncept korporativne varnosti v slovenskem zdravstvenem sistemu in opredeliti njen status. Za pridobitev rezultatov je bila izvedena anketa, ki je bila posredovana zdravstvenim ustanovam v Sloveniji, v kateri je sodelovalo 154 deležnikov v zdravstvu. Rezultati so pokazali, da je korporativna varnost v slovenskih zdravstvenih ustanovah prisotna, vendar so potrebni dodatni napori za njeno izboljšanje, še posebej glede na trenutne izzive, povezane z ukrepi po epidemiji COVID-19, pomanjkanjem zdravstvenega kadra ter kibernetskimi grožnjami. Pravni postopki korporativne varnosti v zdravstvenih ustanovah so v skladu z veljavnimi zakoni in predpisi za zaščito interesov njihovih pacientov in zaposlenih, operativne varnostne procese pa trenutno zagotavljajo predvsem notranji ponudniki. Pravni procesi korporativne varnosti so med zaposlenimi sicer slabo poznani, hkrati pa slednji visoko vrednotijo pomembnost korporativne varnosti znotraj zdravstvenih institucij. V prihodnosti je potrebno predvsem izboljšati usposabljanje in izobraževanje osebja, ki ima najpomembnejšo vlogo pri zagotavljanju varnosti. Za učinkovito vzpostavitev celovite korporativne varnosti je bistvenega pomena strateška komunikacija z vsemi deležniki, da se zagotovi pravilno izvajanje njihovih varnostnih politik in postopkov – zagotavljanje korporativne varnosti v zdravstvenih institucijah je namreč kompleksen izziv, ki zahteva celovit in sistematičen pristop.

Salivary gland adaptation to dietary inclusion of hydrolysable tannins in boars

Opis: The ingestion of hydrolysable tannins as a potential nutrient to reduce boar odor in entire males results in the significant enlargement of parotid glands (parotidomegaly). The objective of this study was to characterize the effects of different levels of hydrolysable tannins in the diet of fattening boars (n = 24) on salivary gland morphology and proline-rich protein (PRP) expression at the histological level. Four treatment groups of pigs (n = 6 per group) were fed either a control (T0) or experimental diet, where the T0 diet was supplemented with 1% (T1), 2% (T2), or 3% (T3) of the hydrolysable tannin-rich extract Farmatan®. After slaughter, the parotid and mandibular glands of the experimental pigs were harvested and dissected for staining using Goldner’s Trichrome method, and immunohistochemical studies with antibodies against PRPs. Morphometric analysis was performed on microtome sections of both salivary glands, to measure the acinar area, the lobular area, the area of the secretory ductal cells, and the sizes of glandular cells and their nuclei. Histological assessment revealed that significant parotidomegaly was only present in the T3 group, based on the presence of larger glandular lobules, acinar areas, and their higher nucleus to cytoplasm ratio. The immunohistochemical method, supported by color intensity measurements, indicated significant increases in basic PRPs (PRB2) in the T3 and acidic PRPs (PRH1/2) in the T1 groups. Tannin upplementation did not affect the histo-morphological properties of the mandibular gland. This study confirms that pigs can adapt to a tannin-rich diet by making structural changes in their parotid salivary gland, indicating its higher functional activity.

Effect of immunocastration on performance of Slovenian pig fatteners

Opis: The influence of the immunocastration (immunisation against GnRH) on pig performance (growth, carcass and meat quality traits) was investigated in two parallel experiments (on two farms) with two crossbreeds – G1 (50% Duroc) and G2 (50% Pietrain). Within the crossbreed, the pigs were assigned to three experimental groups; entire males (EM, n=49), immunocastrates (IC, n=45) and surgical castrates (SC, n=45). Those assigned to IC group were vaccinated at the age of 12 and 19 weeks. Pigs were individually housed, their feed intake (ad libitum) and weight (at 12, 19 and 24 weeks) were recorded. At the age of 24 weeks, the pigs were slaughtered and their carcass and meat quality traits were assessed. We hypothesized that treatment response could have been different in two crossbreeds. However the interaction was insignificant, thus the treatment effect is presented on pooled results for both crossbreeds. Until the revaccination, IC were similar to EM pigs, thereafter they exhibited an increase in feed intake and growth rate. Overall, they presented an advantage in growth rate and feed efficiency as compared to SC. They also exhibited better carcass properties as SC without any major effect on meat quality. The present study provides the initial information on the immunocastration effect in Slovenian herds that should further be supported by testing it in usual rearing conditions and group housing.

VPLIV DODANEGA KOSTANJEVEGA TANINA V OBROKU MERJASCEV NA HISTOMORFOLOŠKE IN IMUNOHISTOKEMIČNE LASTNOSTI ČREVESJA TER JETER IN SESTAVIN VONJA PO MERJASCU

Opis: V doktorski disertaciji smo proučevali vplive hidroliziranega tanina (izvleček sladkega kostanja) na histomorfološke in imunohistokemične lastnosti tankega in debelega črevesja ter jeter, v povezavi z vonjem po merjascu. Disertacija je osredotočena tudi na tvorbo skatola v debelem črevesju, njegovo razgradnjo v jetrih in nalaganje skatola v maščobne tkivu merjascev. Doktorsko nalogo sestavljata dva poskusa, v prvi je bilo vključenih 24 merjascev (Landrace x Large White), živali so bile razdeljene v štiri skupine (T0, n=6, krmna mešanica s 13,2 MJ/kg, 15,6% surovih proteinov) in pa tri z dodatkom tanina 1% (T1, n=6), 2% (T2, n=6) in 3% (T3, n=6). Dodajanje tanina v obrok merjascev je vplival na nekatere morfološke lastnosti tankega črevesja (duodenum) in sicer na povečano velikost resice, njen perimeter in debelino mukoznega tkiva. Dodatek tanina je zmanjšal velikost mitotske aktivnosti v cekumu in delu debelega črevesja (colon descendens) in apoptotsko aktivnost v delu debelega črevesja (colon ascendens). V jetrnem tkivu nismo zasledili nobenih histoloških sprememb, ki bi nastale kot posledica dodanega tanina. V drugi poskus je bilo vključenih 51 merjascev, ki so bili razdeljeni v štiri skupine: kontrolno skupino (BEK-2, 12,9 MJ/kg, 15% surovih proteinov brez dodanih taninov, T0, n=12) in v tri skupine, ki so imele v krmno mešanico dodane tanine različnih koncentracij in sicer 1% (T1, n=13), 2% (T2, n=13) in 3% (T3, n=13). Dodatek tanina v obroku je imel vpliv na zmanjšanje koncentracije skatola v debelem črevesju (colon descendens), ob tem smo zasledili tudi povečano katalitično aktivnostjo citokrom encima CYP2E1. Dodajanje taninov se je pokazalo kot tendenca na zmanjšanje aktivnosti encimov CYP2A19 in CYP1A. V maščobnem tkivu merjascev se je prav tako pokazal trend zmanjševanja koncentracije androstenona ob povečani koncentraciji dodanega tanina v krmi merjascev. Na vsebnost skatola v maščobnem tkivu merjascev dodani tanin ni imel vpliva.
