The correlation between demographic development and land-use changes in Slovenia

Opis: The paper focuses on determining the degree of correlation between land-use changes and demographic development in Slovenia. The authors conclude that there is still insufficient evidence in the literature for a correlation between these two processes, because quantitative studies addressing these links are very rare and mostly cover small and specific areas. In the case of Slovenia, Spearman’s correlation coefficients are quite low, which confirms that land-use change processes are complex and not dependent solely on individual demographic and socioeconomic factors. Despite the low correlation coefficients, our findings indicate that changes in land use are significantly influenced by changes in age structure and population growth. In areas with population growth the share of arable land is shrinking, whereas in areas with depopulation and a rising aging index the share of partially overgrown land is growing. In the following analysis, the authors focus their analysis on a case study of the Mura and Central Slovenia statistical regions, which lie on opposite poles with regard to development, and thus show differing trends in land-use changes.

Primer napredne robotske manipulacije z redundantno robotsko roko Franka Emika Panda in ROS

Opis: V magistrski nalogi smo raziskali uporabo redundantnih robotskih manipulatorjev za izboljšanje prilagodljivosti in zmogljivosti pri izvajanju nalog v okoljih z ovirami, s poudarkom na robota Franka Emika Panda. Osredotočili smo se na analizo in primerjavo različnih načrtovalnikov poti ter reševalnikov inverzne kinematike, da bi ocenili njihovo učinkovitost pri obvladovanju sklepnih omejitev in izogibanju oviram. Z razvojem aplikacije pobiranja in odlaganja (angl. Pick and place) v okolju ROS in z orodjem Moveit smo demonstrirali, kako redundantnost omogoča izboljšano manevriranje in kompleksne gibe, ki so potrebni za napredne robotske aplikacije. Rezultati kažejo, da je pristop s poudarkom na redundantnosti bistven za doseganje boljših operativnih sposobnosti robota, še posebej v zahtevnih industrijskih okoljih.

Genska ontologija farmakogenomike bioloških zdravil pri imunsko pogojenih boleznih

Opis: V magistrskem delu smo z uporabo genske ontologije preučevali farmakogenomiko bioloških zdravil pri imunsko pogojenih boleznih, s poudarkom na atopijskem dermatitisu, astmi in multipli sklerozi. Namen raziskave je bil ugotoviti vpliv bioloških označevalcev na učinkovitost zdravljenja z biološkimi zdravili ter identificirati skupne in specifične molekularne poti teh bolezni. S sistematskim pregledom literature smo analizirali že objavljene članke, ki poročajo o genih povezanih z odzivom na zdravljenje z biološkimi zdravili pri vseh treh boleznih, nato pa smo izvedli analizo genske ontologije s pomočjo programske opreme Cytoscape. Primerjali smo individualne analize za vsako bolezen posebej in izvedli komparativno analizo genske ontologije. Ugotovili smo, da so statistično najbolj pomembni pojmi za vse tri bolezni vključujejo: aktivacijo B celic (p vrednost = 1,16 × 10-17), diferenciacijo T celic (p vrednost = 2,15 × 10-33), diferenciacijo CD4+ alfa-beta T celic (p vrednost = 6,65 × 10-25) ter celično apoptozo (p vrednost = 5,28 × 10-18). Pri vseh posameznih analizah so se pojavili tudi statistično pomembni pojmi, kot so mikroglialna aktivnost, regulacija imunoglobulina E in vitamina D, ki posredno ali neposredno vplivajo na odziv na biološka zdravila. Diferenciacija Bergmannovih glialnih celic (p vrednost = 1,67 × 10-4) je bil statistično pomemben pojem, ki se je pojavil le pri analizi multiple skleroze. Povzamemo lahko, da je v tej nalogi razkritih več GO izrazov, ki so vključeni v molekularne poti atopijskega dermatitisa, astme in multiple skleroze ter služijo kot pokazatelji odziva na zdravljenje z biološkimi zdravili za te bolezni.

VARAŽDIN: ŠPORTNO - REKREACIJSKO OBMOČJE OB JUŽNI VPADNICI

Opis: Urbana regeneracija območja južne vpadnice v Varaždinu je projekt, ki cilja na revitalizacijo nekdanjega industrijskega območja in njegovo preobrazbo v sodoben mestni prostor. Izpostavljene so aktualne potrebe lokacije po trajnostnem urbanem razvoju, z namenom povezovanja zgodovinskih, družbenih in gospodarskih elementov območja. Osrednji cilj magistrskega dela je prenoviti degradirano območje v dinamičen prostor, ki bo združeval poslovne, javne in rekreativne vsebine. S tem naj bi se okrepila urbana identiteta mesta, izboljšala kakovost okolja in spodbudil gospodarski razvoj. Projekt vključuje vzpostavitev javnih prostorov, povezavo in dopolnitev obstoječih stavb in programa ter gradnjo novih objektov, pri čemer se ohranjajo elementi industrijske dediščine kot pomemben del lokalne zgodovine. Poudarek je na trajnostnih rešitvah, kot so energetska učinkovitost, zelena infrastruktura in zmanjševanje ogljičnega odtisa. Projekt predstavlja ključno priložnost za preobrazbo južne vpadnice v sodoben mestni kvart, ki bo privlačen tako za prebivalce kot za obiskovalce. Vključuje tudi širšo vizijo urbanega razvoja Varaždina, kjer bo območje južne vpadnice postalo pomemben kulturni in gospodarski center, ozko povezan z centrom in drugimi deli mesta. Regeneracija območja je model za celovit pristop k revitalizaciji urbanih območij, ki združuje zgodovinsko dediščino z inovativnimi rešitvami za prihodnost.

Microfluidic control over topological states in channel-confined nematic flows

Opis: Compared to isotropic liquids, orientational order of nematic liquid crystals makes their rheological properties more involved, and thus requires fine control of the flow parameters to govern the orientational patterns. In microfluidic channels with perpendicular surface alignment, nematics discontinuously transition from perpendicular structure at low flow rates to flow-aligned structure at high flow rates. Here we show how precise tuning of the driving pressure can be used to stabilize and manipulate a previously unresearched topologically protected chiral intermediate state which arises before the homeotropic to flow-aligned transition. We characterize the mechanisms underlying the transition and construct a phenomenological model to describe the critical behaviour and the phase diagram of the observed chiral flow state, and evaluate the effect of a forced symmetry breaking by introduction of a chiral dopant. Finally, we induce transitions on demand through channel geometry, application of laser tweezers, and careful control of the flow rate.

REVITALIZACIJA STAVBNEGA OTOKA NA STUDENCIH V MARIBORU

Opis: Naloga je predlog revitalizacije propadlega območja v evropskem mestu na primeru industrijske cone Studenci v Mariboru. Želja je tvoriti kvalitetno okolje za delovanje človeka, mu omogočiti prijetno bivanje in delo, oblikovati veliko površin za rekreacijo in miselno stimulacijo, skrajšati vsakodnevne poti, upoštevati naravo in okolje ter izhodišča za trajnostni razvoj. Osnove pri oblikovanju projekta so: širjenje goste pozidave centra mesta proti periferiji, vnos centralnih dejavnosti zaradi decentralizacije, mestotvorno oblikovanje, ki se ujame z obstoječo mestno strukturo, ohramba zaznanih kvalitet in njihova nadgradnja ter integracija v zasnovo. Glavne vnesene funkcije so: manjkajoča fakulteta v Mariboru, študentski dom, stanovanjska naselja, restavracije.

New Centrality: Urban Regeneration on the Crossroad of Gosposvetska Street and Vrbanska Street in Maribor

Opis: Maribor was one of the cities with the fastest industrial development in the former Yugoslavia. The rapid growth necessitated developments and expansion of the city. One of the areas that developed to accommodate the influx of new residents and adapt to the city's growth was the area along Gosposvetska Street. This zone was constructed during the 1950s and 1960s with a clear concept aimed at fulfilling all the basic needs of the residents, prioritizing their well-being. Since then, many things have changed. The use of cars has become essential. Open spaces initially dedicated to residents have turned into parking lots while development in other aspects leaves much to be desired. In the years that followed, construction in the area has been minimal and primarily residential. There is a noticeable lack of a common space and programs to attract a more diverse population. This master's thesis aims to analyze the current functioning of the specific area along Gosposvetska Street and its crossroads with Vrbanska Street and attempts to propose its urban regeneration by densifying the built structure with housing and diversifying programs by a new creative hub. By intensifying the urban mix, the proposal is expected to act as a catalyst for other commercial and public programs in the zone. It aims at establishing new centrality. Moreover, the goal is to prioritize the residents' right to the city and regenerate the area with its original concept as a guiding principle.

Prestrukturiranje stanovanjske soseske nova vas II v Mariboru

Opis: Magistrska naloga se osredotoča na regeneracijo in prestrukturiranje mestne soseske Nova vas II v Mariboru. Z umestitvijo novega programa želimo povečati kakovost obstoječega prostora. Glede na mikrolokacijo se objekti prilagajajo potrebam prostora. V večji meri je naloga osredotočena na premikanje mirujočega prometa v podnivo terena ter na širjenja zelenih in javnih površin v prostoru.

Energy demand distribution and environmental impact assessment of chitosan production from shrimp shells

Opis: Step towards resilience and sustainability through exploring renewable biomass and waste streams to produce higher-added value products and energy is among key aspects for closing the loops, saving resources, and reducing the resource and emission footprints. In that respective, crustacean shells waste can offer rich spectre of valuable compounds such as proteins, chitin, carotenoids. This waste is produced in large quantities worldwide, thus allowing for commercial valorisation. An overview of technologies is undertaken for more sustainable and environmentally friendly chitosan production via chitin isolation and conversion and compared to the conventional processes. Furthermore, an assessment of the environmental burden and energy demand distribution for conventional and more sustainable alternative processes was performed, based on lab-scale experimental data. Three different chitin extraction routes and three distinct chitosan conversion processes were considered and compared for their greenhouse gas footprint, abiotic depletion, acidification, eutrophication and other potentials. Finally, the energy demand distribution was analysed considering electricity production patterns from three European countries, Slovenia, Portugal and Norway. The results showed that alternatives 3-A and 3-B (conventional eco-solvents - conventional deacetylation with 40 % and 50 % NaOH) generate the lowest environmental burden (184 g CO2 eq./g chitosan). Electricity was the main hotspot of the processes, used either for extraction, plasma treatment or deacetylation. The sensitivity analysis proved that the Norwegian electricity mix has the lowest environmental impact (4.2 g CO2 eq./g chitosan). This study highlights the impact of blue biorefineries by transforming marine waste to valuable biopolymers such as chitin and chitosan.
