Brezizgubno stiskanje rastrskih slik z uporabo genetskega algoritma

Opis: V magistrskem delu je predstavljena uporaba genetskega algoritma za brezizgubno stiskanje rastrskih slik. Poudarek je na kombiniranju genetskega algoritma z različnimi tehnikami stiskanja podatkov, vključno z aritmetičnim kodiranjem, metodo RLE (angl. Run Length Encoding) in Huffmanovim kodiranjem. Podrobno je opisano teoretično ozadje genetskega algoritma in njegovih osnovnih postopkov, kot so selekcija, križanje in mutacija. Prav tako je predstavljena implementacija genetskega algoritma, kodirnika in dekodirnika. Opravljene so bile analize vhodnih parametrov kodeka, stiskanja splošnih in risanih slik, vpliva napovedi genetskega algoritma na stopnjo stiskanja, vpliva pretvorbe barvnega prostora na stopnjo stiskanja ter analiza časovne zahtevnosti. Rezultati so pokazali, da predlagan kodek doseže stopnjo stiskanja primerljivo z izbranimi formati, njegova učinkovitost stiskanja pa se izboljša z uporabo pretvorbe barvnega prostora.

Strategies for managing time and costs in speech corpus creation : insights from the Slovenian ARTUR corpus

Opis: Parliamentary debates represent an essential part of democratic discourse and provide insights into various socio-demographic and linguistic phenomena - parliamentary corpora, which contain transcripts of parliamentary debates and extensive metadata, are an important resource for parliamentary discourse analysis and other research areas. This paper presents the Slovenian parliamentary corpus siParl, the latest version of which contains transcripts of plenary sessions and other legislative bodies of the Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia from 1990 to 2022, comprising more than 1 million speeches and 210 million words. We outline the development history of the corpus and also mention other initiatives that have been influenced by siParl (such as the Parla-CLARIN encoding and the ParlaMint corpora of European parliaments), present the corpus creation process, ranging from the initial data collection to the structural development and encoding of the corpus, and given the growing influence of the ParlaMint corpora, compare siParl with the Slovenian ParlaMint-SI corpus. Finally, we discuss updates for the next version as well as the long-term development and enrichment of the siParl corpus.

Novel GPU-accelerated high-resolution solar potential estimation in urban areas by using a modified diffuse irradiance model

Opis: In the past years various methods have been developed to estimate high-resolution solar potential in urban areas, by simulating solar irradiance over surface models that originate from remote sensing data. In general, this requires discretisation of solar irradiance models that estimate direct, reflective, and diffuse irradiances. The latter is most accurately estimated by an anisotropic model, where the hemispherical sky dome from arbitrary surface’s viewpoint consists of the horizon, the circumsolar and sky regions. Such model can be modified to incorporate the effects of shadowing from obstruction with a view factor for each sky region. However, state-of-the-art using such models for estimating solar potential in urban areas, only considers the sky view factor, and not circumsolar view factor, due to high computational load. In this paper, a novel parallelisation of solar potential estimation is proposed by using General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU). Modified anisotropic Perez model is used by considering diffuse shadowing with all three sky view factors. Moreover, we provide validation based on sensitivity analysis of the method’s accuracy with independent meteorological measurements, by changing circumsolar sky region’s half-angle and resolution of the hemispherical sky dome. Finally, the presented method using GPPGU was compared to multithreaded Central Processing Unit (CPU) approach, where on average a 70x computational speedup was achieved. Finally, the proposed method was applied over a urban area, obtained from Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) data, where the computation of solar potential was performed in a reasonable time.

Vpliv hitre mode na potrošniško vedenje in okolje

Opis: Globalizacija je drastično razširila modno industrijo in povečala željo po oblačilih, ki sledijo najnovejšim trendom. Blagovne znamke izkoriščajo modne trende za oblikovanje hitro rastoče industrije hitre mode, ki je znana po hitri proizvodnji in nizkih cenah oblačil. Vendar pa ta sistem prinaša številne negativne okoljske posledice, vključno z onesnaževanjem voda, prisotnostjo mikroplastike in uporabe škodljivih kemikalij. V modni industriji se pogosto pojavljajo etični problemi, ki so povezani z izkoriščanjem delovne sile in nehumanimi delovnimi pogoji v nerazvitih državah. Diplomsko delo se osredotoča na proučevanje vpliva hitre mode na nakupovalno vedenje potrošnikov ter na okoljske posledice, ki jih povzroča ta industrija. V empiričnem delu smo izvedli anketo, s katero smo raziskovali stopnjo ozaveščenosti o hitri modi med potrošniki in njihovo pripravljenost na preusmeritev k nakupu trajnostnih oblačil.

Razvoj računalniške igre z inteligentnimi akterji

Opis: V diplomskem delu predstavimo postopek izdelave tretjeosebne srednjeveške računalniške igre v pogonu Unreal Engine. Podrobno opišemo ozadje razvoja računalniških iger, proceduralno gradnjo terena in razvoj inteligentnih akterjev v okvirju principa delovanja igre, ki temeljijo na algoritmu GOAP. Na koncu analiziramo delovanje razvite igre na podlagi meritev števila sličic na sekundo glede na število akterjev, hitrosti izvajanja ključnih odsekov kode in kvalitete izrisa.

Investigating the influence of reflective materials on indoor thermal environment and solar reflectance in buildings

Opis: This in-depth study explores the intricate dynamics of reflective materials, emphasizing their impact on the indoor thermal environment and urban heat island (UHI) mitigation. Examining diffuse highly reflective (DHR), general reflective (GR), and retro-reflective (RR) materials on a simplified building model during summer days, the research utilizes outdoor experiments to analyze air and surface temperatures, as well as solar radiation. Prioritizing key metrics—mean radiant temperature (MRT), operative temperature (OT), and solar reflectance (ρ)—the study uncovers nuanced distinctions in DHR, GR, and RR materials. Solar reflectance calculations consistently show higher values for DHR and RR materials compared to GR material, highlighting reflectance's pivotal role in influencing surface temperatures and indoor thermal environment. When evaluating the impact of exterior wall materials on building temperatures, RR material with a 76% reflectance performs similarly to DHR material (82%). Notably, with a 6% lower reflectance in RR, the temperature contrast between external and internal walls is only about 1.5 °C at its maximum, underscoring RR's effectiveness as an outer wall material for UHI mitigation and building energy conservation, surpassing both DHR and GR materials.

Cold agglutinins and cryoglobulins associate with clinical and laboratory parameters of cold urticaria

Opis: Mast cell-activating signals in cold urticaria are not yet well defined and are likely to be heterogeneous. Cold agglutinins and cryoglobulins have been described as factors possibly associated with cold urticaria, but their relevance has not been explained. We performed a single-center prospective cohort study of 35 cold urticaria patients. Cold agglutinin and cryoglobulin test results, demographics, detailed history data, cold stimulation test results, complete blood count values, C-reactive protein, total immunoglobulin E levels, and basal serum tryptase levels were analyzed. Forty six percent (n = 16) of 35 tested patients had a positive cold agglutinin test and 27% (n = 9) of 33 tested patients had a positive cryoglobulin test. Cold agglutinin positive patients, when compared to cold agglutinin negative ones, were mainly female (P = 0.030). No gender-association was found for cryoglobulins. A positive cold agglutinin test, but not a positive cryoglobulin test, was associated with a higher rate of reactions triggered by cold ambient air (P = 0.009) or immersion in cold water (P = 0.041), and aggravated by increased summer humidity (P = 0.007). Additionally, patients with a positive cold agglutinin test had a higher frequency of angioedema triggered by ingestion of cold foods or drinks (P = 0.043), and lower disease control based on Urticaria Control Test (P = 0.023). Cold agglutinin levels correlated with erythrocyte counts (r = -0.372, P = 0.028) and monocyte counts (r = -0.425, P = 0.011). Cryoglobulin concentrations correlated with basal serum tryptase levels (r = 0.733, P = 0.025) and cold urticaria duration (r = 0.683, P = 0.042). Results of our study suggest that cold agglutinins and cryoglobulins, in a subpopulation of cold urticaria patients, are linked to the course and possibly the pathogenesis of their disease.
