The KIDSCREEN-27 scale: translation and validation study of the Slovenian version

Opis: Background: There are many methods available for measuring social support and quality of life (QoL) of adolescents, of these, the KIDSCREEN tools are most widely used. Thus, we aimed to translate and validate the KIDSCREEN-27 scale for the usage among adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years old in Slovenia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 2852 adolescents in primary and secondary school from November 2019 to January 2020 in Slovenia. 6-steps method of validation was used to test psychometric properties of the KIDSCREEN-27 scale. We checked descriptive statistics, performed a Mokken scale analysis, parametric item response theory, factor analysis, classical test theory and total (sub)scale scores. Results: All five subscales of the KIDSCREEN-27 formed a unidimensional scale with good homogeneity and reliability. The confirmatory factor analysis showed poor fit in user model versus baseline model metrics (CFI = 0.847; TLI = 0.862) and good fit in root mean square error (RMSEA = 0.072; p(χ2) < 0.001). A scale reliability was calculated using Cronbach's α (0.93), beta (0.86), G6 (0.95) and omega (0.93). Conclusions: The questionnaire showed average psychometric properties and can be used among adolescents in Slovenia to find out about their quality of life. Further research is needed to explore why fit in user model metrics is poor.

Emotional intelligence among nursing students: findings from a longitudinal study

Opis: Emotional intelligence is an important factor for nursing students’ success and work performance. Although the level of emotional intelligence increases with age and tends to be higher in women, results of different studies on emotional intelligence in nursing students vary regarding age, study year, and gender. A longitudinal study was conducted in 2016 and 2019 among undergraduate nursing students to explore whether emotional intelligence changes over time. A total of 111 undergraduate nursing students participated in the study in the first year of their study, and 101 in the third year. Data were collected using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQue-SF) and Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT). There was a significant difference in emotional intelligence between students in their first (M = 154.40; 95% CI: 101.85–193.05) and third year (M = 162.01; 95% CI: 118.65–196.00) of study using TEIQue-SF questionnaire. There was a weak correlation (r = 0.170) between emotional intelligence and age measuring using the TEIQue-SF questionnaire, and no significant correlation when measured using SSEIT (r = 0.34). We found that nursing students’ emotional intelligence changes over time with years of education and age, suggesting that emotional intelligence skills can be improved. Further research is needed to determine the gendered nature of emotional intelligence in nursing students.

Nursing support in facilitating mental well-being of adolescents

Opis: Background: Mental well-being is a state in which an individual acts positively, feels good, copes with the daily stressors and contributes to his/her community. Adolescents are a population who experience the various stressors brought on by growing up. The purpose of the doctoral dissertation is to determine the mental well-being of adolescents in correlation with the support of family, friends, teachers, and nurses. Methods: The research was based on the paradigm of pragmatism which supports the usage of quantitative and qualitative approaches using mixed methods. The quantitative part of the research included 2 972 adolescents. The survey method was used, descriptive and inferential statistics and presentation of the results were done with the help of tables, charts and figures. In the qualitative part of the research, data were collected using the interview method. Interviews were conducted with 5 focus groups involving 16 adolescents, 8 parents, 6 teachers, 3 legislators, and 6 nurses. The data were analysed following the steps of Corbin & Strauss (2008). Results: The mental well-being of adolescents is positively related (r = 0.624) to their social support. The mental well-being (r = -0.286) and social support (r = -0.239) of adolescents declines with age. Adolescents are of the opinion that the role of the nurse is to talk to them, help them, advise them, and explain difficulties that bother them. The mental well-being of adolescents is related to their interaction and interpersonal relations with parents, friends, and teachers. In ensuring the mental well-being of adolescents, we must consider the model multidimensional well-being. The Model of Interpersonal Relationships is proposed, which is formed based on the results of quantitative and qualitative part of the research and taking into account the concepts of the Theory of Interpersonal Relationships (Peplau, 1952) and the model of Multidimensional Well-being (Sarriera & Bedin, 2017). Discussion: Mental well-being is an important and relatively new concept in nursing. Adolescents’ mental well-being is closely linked to interpersonal relationships and a safe environment in which they can express themselves. Adolescents and parents do not obtain the necessary professional help in a timely manner. There is also a need for additional education on the mental well-being of adolescents among adolescents, parents, teachers, and nurses. Conclusion: Interpersonal relationships between adolescents, family, friends, teachers, and nurses are of major importance for ensuring mental well-being. There is a need for further research to improve the mental well-being of adolescents worldwide.

Pomen, razumevanje in doživljanje duhovne oskrbe starejših oseb, obolelih za demenco, v socialnovarstvenih zavodih

Opis: Izhodišča: Pomemben vidik celostne zdravstvene nege starejših oseb, obolelih za demenco, v socialnovarstvenih zavodih je zagotavljanje duhovnih potreb. Duhovna oskrba starejših oseb z demenco pomembno vpliva na izboljšanje kognitivnih sposobnosti, opravljanje dnevnih aktivnosti, na samozavest in pomaga pri soočanju z boleznijo. Vloga tima zdravstvene nege in oskrbe pri tem je ključnega pomena, saj mora pravočasno prepoznati in razumeti duhovne potrebe ter jih zadovoljiti. Z doktorsko disertacijo želimo raziskati pomen, razumevanje in doživljanje duhovne oskrbe starejših oseb, obolelih za demenco, v socialnovarstvenih zavodih. Raziskovalna metodologija in metode: Uporabljena je bila kvalitativna metodologija raziskovanja z interpretativno hermenevtično fenomenologijo kot metodo raziskavanja. Vzorčenje je bilo namensko in kriterijsko. Uporabili smo triangulacijo podatkov. Podatke smo zbrali z metodo poglobljenih, odprtih individualnih intervjujev in z metodo fokusnih skupin. Zbrane podatke smo analizirali in jih sintetizirali po fenomenološko-hermenevtični metodi. Rezultati: Ugotovitve kažejo, da mora duhovna oskrba temeljiti na spoštovanju, prijaznosti, ljubeznivosti, rahločutnosti, dostojanstvu, empatiji, sočutju, individualni in celostni obravnavi, na poznavanju življenjske zgodbe starejših oseb z demenco in osredotočenosti na majhnih, a zanje pomembnih stvareh. Člani tima zdravstvene nege in oskrbe se pri zagotavljanju duhovne oskrbe srečujejo s številnimi izzivi, da bi zadovoljili duhovne potrebe, med katerimi so najpomembnejše potrebe po iskanju (novega) smisla, povezanosti in pripadnosti. Razprava in zaključek: Na osnovi ugotovitev raziskave oblikovan model celostne duhovne oskrbe starejših oseb, obolelih z demenco, predstavlja edinstven in poglobljen vpogled v pomen, razumevanje in doživljanje duhovne oskrbe starejših oseb, obolelih za demenco, ki bivajo v socialnovarstvenih zavodih, njihovih svojcev in članov tima zdravstvene nege in oskrbe.

Odnos in ovire študentov zdravstvene nege do raziskovalnega dela

Opis: Uvod: Raziskovanje v zdravstveni negi predstavlja vodilo klinične prakse za kakovostno in varno oskrbo pacientov. Raziskave kažejo, da imajo študenti pozitiven odnos do raziskovanja, vendar pa se pri tem srečujejo s številnimi ovirami. Namen zaključnega dela je bil raziskati odnos in zaznavanje ovir študentov zdravstvene nege do raziskovalnega dela. Metode: Izvedena je bila presečno opazovalna raziskava s kvantitativno metodologijo raziskovanja. Podatki so bili zbrani z anketnima vprašalnikoma na priložnostnem vzorcu študentov zdravstvene nege (n = 219). Statistična analiza je bila izvedena s programsko opremo IBM SPSS 23.0 in metodo opisne ter sklepne statistike. Rezultati: V povprečju je imelo 80 % anketiranih študentov pozitiven odnos do raziskovanja (M = 136,93; SD = 30,88; p < 0,001). Ugotovljena je bila statistično značilna razlika v odnosu do raziskovanja glede na letnik (p < 0,001) in stopnjo študija (p < 0,001). Kot največjo oviro v raziskovanju so študenti ocenili kompleksnost raziskovalnega procesa (M = 3,95; SD = 0,68) ter okoljske ovire (M = 3,53; SD = 0,59). Razlik v zaznavanju ovir glede na prejšnje izkušnje z raziskovalnim delom ni bilo ugotovljenih (p = 0,098). Potrjena pa je bila negativna statistično značilna povezava med odnosom do raziskovanja in zaznavanjem ovir v raziskovanju (rs(219) = -0,554, p < 0,001). Razprava in sklep: Pozitiven odnos do raziskovanja je pomemben element uporabe na dokazih utemeljene zdravstvene nege v kliničnem okolju. Odnos do raziskovanja med študenti je treba ohranjati in nadgrajevati, pri tem pa študente opremiti z znanjem in veščinami za uspešno odpravo ovir pri raziskovanju.

Advanced Nursing Practice : International Experiences and Future Direction for Nursing in Slovenia, Book of Abstracts

Opis: First international Advanced Nursing Practice conference in Slovenia brought world leading academic scholars to exchange and share their experiences on Advance Nursing Practice (ANP) education and practice. Special emphasis will be put on presentation of competencies, roles and scope of practice. Aim of our conference was to bring ANP education and especially the nature of ANP practice closer to an academic and clinical environment as well to decision making bodies in government and other professional groups in Slovenia. Numerous studies have shown that advanced practice nurses can provide quality patient care by role extension or expansion, contribute to efficacy, cost efficiency, patient satisfaction, reduced (re)hospitalizations, and reduced mortality. Experts from countries where ANP is well established and experts from countries where ANP is in the beginning stages of development participated in round table discussion. Conclusions of the round table discussion produced future direction for development of ANP in Slovenia.

Varnost v delovnem okolju patronažnih medicinskih sester

Opis: Uvod: Patronažne medicinske sestre so pri svojem delu izpostavljene različnim vrstam nevarnostim. Namen magistrskega dela je raziskati varnost v delovnem okolju patronažnih medicinskih sester pri obravnavi pacientov na domu. Metode: Uporabili smo raziskave mešanih metod, ki vključujejo kvantitativne in kvalitativne metode dela in za katere je značilna filozofija pragmatizma. V kvantitativnem delu so bili podatki zbrani z anketnim vprašalnikom in analizirani z deskriptivno in inferenčno statistiko. V kvalitativnem delu smo uporabili metodo utemeljene teorije, izvedli smo delno strukturirane intervjuje. Rezultati: Mann-Whitneyjev test je pokazal, da obstaja statistično pomembna razlika v zaznavanju nevarnosti v delovnem okolju med patronažnimi medicinskimi sestrami na podeželju in v mestnem okolju samo v segmentu zaznavanja nevarnosti izven pacientovega doma (U = 969,000; p = 0,023). Identificirali smo tri kategorije: percepcija varnosti patronažnih medicinskih sester v delovnem okolju, dejavniki, ki vplivajo na varnost, in ukrepi patronažnih medicinskih sester. Razprava in sklep: Delo patronažnih medicinskih sester na terenu je izjemno zahtevno in nevarno. Predlagamo uvedbo posebnega dokumentacijskega obrazca ali programa na nacionalni ravni, ki bi ga patronažne medicinske sestre uporabile za zapis posebnosti, opažanj in intervencij ob prvem obisku pacienta in družine.

Percepcija in mnenje medicinskih sester o varni transfuziji krvi in krvnih pripravkov

Opis: Uvod: Transfuzija krvi in krvnih pripravkov je eden pogostejših načinov zdravljenja različnih bolezni in bolezenskih stanj. Je kompleksna intervencija, ki ima lahko številne zaplete in posledice. Transfuzija se pri nas izvaja predvsem v zdravstvenih institucijah na sekundarnem in terciarnem nivoju zdravstvenega varstva in jo izvajajo diplomirane medicinske sestre v multidisciplinarnem sodelovanju z ostalimi izvajalci v verigi postopkov transfuzije. Namen magistrskega dela je raziskati percepcijo in mnenje medicinskih sester o varni transfuziji krvi in krvnih pripravkov. Metode: Raziskava je temeljila na kvantitativni metodologiji s filozofijo pozitivizma. Izvedli smo opazovalno študijo, podatke pa smo zbrali s pomočjo prilagojenega anketnega vprašalnika. Uporabili smo priložnostno vzorčenje. Za analizo podatkov smo uporabili metode deskriptivne in inferenčne statistike. Rezultati: Rezultati so pokazali, da med medicinskimi sestrami, ki pogosto ali vsak dan izvajajo aplikacijo krvnih pripravkov, ni statistično pomembnih razlik v poznavanju protokolov in standardov v povezavi z varno aplikacijo transfuzije (p = 0,448). Ugotovili smo tudi, da je največje zavedanje medicinskih sester o varni transfuziji v fazi poznavanja transfuzijskih reakcij (x ̅ = 4,85; s = 0,200), najmanjše pa v fazi pred transfuzijo (x ̅ = 4,01; s = 0,446). Diskusija in zaključek: Zavedanje medicinskih sester o varni transfuziji krvi in krvnih pripravkov je zelo pomembno. To se doseže predvsem z rednim izobraževanjem in nadgrajevanjem že obstoječega znanja o celotnem procesu transfuzije v vseh fazah.
