Measurement and improvement of airport’s environmental behavior: an empirical study from North African Countries (NAC) : doctoral dissertation
Ahmed Eid, 2024, doktorska disertacija

Opis: Environmental challenges have grown in worldwide relevance. Considering that most environmental issues are due to human behavior, it is crucial to be aware of environmental sustainability issues in airports where many environmental problems arise. It is worth noting that, in the global society of the 21st century, air transportation serves an important purpose as one of the logistics operations (a crucial component of the worldwide economic supply chain). Otherwise, the aviation sector is one of the factors that contribute to the degradation of the environment. Thus, environmental sustainability in airports is essential, as it is associated with conserving the airport environment from degradation. Since human actions create most environmental problems, fostering eco-friendly habits is seen as a viable strategy for a sustainable future. Hence, enforcing environmentally friendly behavior is vital to achieving environmental sustainability, considering the governing authorities' continuous and rising demand for transportation system sustainability. Thus, under the lances of reasoned action theory, the research aim is to improve the airport's environmental sustainability by developing a new model to develop specific stakeholders' environmental behavior, as environmental sustainability has become a pledge of every supply chain member. Investigating airport individuals' environmental behavior by measuring the impact of airport environmental knowledge and the airport's environmental sustainability performance on their environmental behavior through attitude and testing the moderating role of environmental advertising on the indirect effect of environmental sustainability performance and environmental sustainability knowledge. Notably, the research is based on the reasoned action theory since it concerns the motivation for behavior. The research contributes to extending the reasoned action theory since it strives to adopt the theory in North African airports. Moreover, this research would contribute to expanding the reasoned action theory by providing a theoretical model for understanding its abstract concepts by examining the impact of environmental sustainability knowledge, performance, attitude, and advertising on developing environmental behavior.

A Framework for adopting a sustainable reverse logistics service quality for reverse logistics service providers : a systematic literature review
Ahmed Dabees, Mahmoud Barakat, Sahar Sobhy El Barky, Andrej Lisec, 2023, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Reverse logistics has become a competitive need for sustainability. Lack of resources to apply reverse logistics solutions has severely impacted many supply chains’ costs and customer service, making it impossible to meet the expectations of return processing. In those conditions, client demands for higher service quality are the main drivers of effective sustainability operations. This study aims to establish the sustainable reverse logistics service quality (SRLSQ) theoretical framework offered by reverse logistics services providers (RLSPs). The study conducts a systematic methodology protocol by examining reliable academic periodicals using PRISMA guidelines based on the research scope and identified 56 papers from 2011–2022, with the main research focus on SSQ and RLSQ dimensions to develop a research framework. By re-evaluating those factors using the SRLSQ framework and by including sustainability into the service quality approach, this study expanded the practicability of reverse logistic service quality and sustainable service quality. The results point to a knowledge gap when it comes to quantifying the impact of reverse logistics operation process through a triple bottom line approach on customer outcomes, relationship quality (RQ), and mediation of operation risk factor, which could be examined within various contexts in subsequent work.

Blockchain technology adoption for improved environmental supply chain performance : the mediation effect of supply chain resilience, customer integration, and green customer information sharing
Summer K. Mohamed, Sandra Haddad, Mahmoud Barakat, Bojan Rosi, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Due to the complexity of building supply chain resilience (SCR) towards long-term environmental sustainability amendments, the use of emerging technologies such as Blockchain Technology (BCT) can be adopted as an innovative tool to enhance the sustainability and resilience of supply chains, especially in uncertain environments. Drawing on the Knowledge-Based View (KBV) and Dynamic Capability View (DCV), this research aims to demonstrate how the adoption of BCT can enhance the environmental supply chain performance (SCP). A total of 603 valid surveys were collected from respondents from manufacturing and service organizations in Egypt. The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modelling, and results revealed that BCT adoption alone had a negative direct impact on environmental SCP. However, when this relationship was mediated by SCR and sequentially mediated by customer integration and green customer information sharing, the results were positive. This research presents insights on how organizations can adapt to dynamic business environments, and, in addition, it extends the theories of KBV and DCV in an empirical contribution by filling the gap in understanding regarding how environmental SCP can be enhanced through the adoption of BCT.

Barriers to applying last-mile logistics in the Egyptian market : an extension of the technology acceptance model
Mohamed Amr Sultan, Tomaž Kramberger, Mahmoud Barakat, Ahmed Hussein Ali, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research aims to investigate the impact of social, environmental, and technological barriers on adopting the last-mile logistics application. This research used a self-administrative questionnaire to collect 1060 respondents from the Egyptian market and analysed it using partial least square structural equation modeling. The findings revealed that some elements could obstruct the implementation of last-mile delivery technologies, namely complexity, collaboration efforts between users and application developers and the impact of technical knowledge and expertise on the potentially involved users. The sharing economy helps organisations reduce contaminants, emissions and carbon footprints, and last-mile logistics is one of the tools of the sharing economy that can enhance the productivity and competitiveness of logistics and boost consumer fulfillment. This research will help enhance organisations’ performance in Egypt as a developing country and push towards applying environmental sustainability practices, as it introduces a tool to enhance customer satisfaction and reduce emissions by illustrating how last-mile logistics can be implemented. This is particularly important as last-mile logistics face some implementation barriers, especially in developing countries. In addition, it will help in extending the theory through conceptualising its abstract ideas with the research variables and applying it in a different context.
