A Student’s Guide to Practical Work in Soil Science

Opis: The student's guide is intended for foreign students choosing Soil science subject at UM. It contains the basics of the geological composition of the lithosphere, classification, mineral composition, and recognition of various rocks. Students are guided through the use of proper equipment and methods of sampling, transportation, preservation, and sample preparation prior to further analysis. Field work and laboratory procedures for determining various physical (soil structure, texture, bulk density, porosity, soil moisture, soil colour) and chemical (soil reaction, organic matter content, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content) characteristics of soil quality are described. Finally, it helps students to describe the soil profile with an accurate description of the general soil horizons and the determination of the soil type.

Words, Music, and Propaganda : book of abstracts

Opis: The fifth Words and Music conference, organized by the English Department of the Faculty of Arts and the Music Department of the Faculty of Education at the University of Maribor, explores the relation between words, music and propaganda, and the place of that relation in history and in modern contemporary culture. The conference includes presentations from the fields of musicology, history, anthropology, sociology, psychoanalytic theory, Marxism, feminist theory, and translation studies, and from different critical perspectives, such as literary and linguistic analysis, Gender Studies, ethnomusicology, critical musicology, stylistics, and popular music studies, applied to genres including folk and protest music, American and European jazz, popular and classical music, rock, and rap.

Creative thinking and decision-making processes in EFL creative writing

Opis: Creativity has been discussed, observed and researched for hundreds of years in the fields of psychology and philosophy - from the ancient notion of the inspired genius, all the way to modern psychologists trying to define creativity and prove its effects. Creativity has recently become a buzzword in EFL teaching practices. We try to stimulate creative thinking in the classroom, but possibly forget to observe the processes within it. The article discusses definitions of creativity and presents a qualitative study on the decision-making processes within EFL creative writing and its connections to students' language learning. The qualitative study was conducted with two 3rd-year bachelor English students who were asked to plan and write a short story in English while doing a think-aloud protocol. The data were transcribed and coded in order to observe emerging categories in the students' reasoning for plot and language use decisions.

THE INTERPRETATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE MAIN CHARACTER ACCORDING TO FISH'S READER RESPONSE CRITICISM IN THE NOVELS DARKLY DREAMING DEXTER, DEARLY DEVOTED DEXTER, DEXTER IN THE DARK AND DEXTER BY DESIGN WRITTEN BY JEFF LINDSAY

Opis: Diplomska naloga z naslovom Interpretacija in sprejemanje glavnega lika po Fishevi kritiki odziva bralca v romanih Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, Dexter in the Dark in Dexter by Desing pisatelja Jeffa Lindseya se, kot že naslov razkriva, ukvarja z reakcijo bralca na romane v naslovu. Romani pripovedujejo o serijskemu morilcu z načeli — on ubija le tiste morilce, za katere se je lastnoročno prepričal o njihovi krivdi in tako predstavlja moralno dilemo. Diploma se prične z uvodnim delom, ki razlaga Fishevo kritiko odziva bralca in kritiko le-tega, da razloži teorijo, kateri smo sledili. Ta trdi, da je bralec tisti, ki ustvari pomen besedila. Fisheve interpretativne skupnosti kažejo na to, da so ljudje, ki prihajajo iz istih socialnih okolij, bolj nagnjeni k temu, da oblikujejo enake interpretacije. Komentirali smo še teorijo moralne presoje in kako socializacije ter vrednote, ki se jih skozi socializacijo naučimo, vplivajo na našo presojo. Nato smo predstavili dva potencialna občinstva in njuna ozadja, da smo lahko na konkretnih primerih iz romanov pokazali njihove možne interpretacije. V zaključku je razvidno, da so predvidevanja o vplivu socialnega ozadja na bralčevo interpretacijo zelo verjetne, kot je razvidno iz primerov, in da to lahko vpliva na interpretacijo literature same ter odnosa do nje.
