11. Multifractality in quasienergy space of coherent states as a signature of quantum chaosQian Wang, Marko Robnik, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: We present the multifractal analysis of coherent states in kicked top model by expanding them in the basis of Floquet operator eigenstates. We demonstrate the manifestation of phase space structures in the multifractal properties of coherent states. In the classical limit, the classical dynamical map can be constructed, allowing us to explore the corresponding phase space portraits and to calculate the Lyapunov exponent. By tuning the kicking strength, the system undergoes a transition from regularity to chaos. We show that the variation of multifractal dimensions of coherent states with kicking strength is able to capture the structural changes of the phase space. The onset of chaos is clearly identified by the phase-space-averaged multifractal dimensions, which are well described by random matrix theory in a strongly chaotic regime. We further investigate the probability distribution of expansion coefficients, and show that the deviation between the numerical results and the prediction of random matrix theory behaves as a reliable detector of quantum chaos. 12. Quantum chaos in the extended Dicke modelQian Wang, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: We systematically study the chaotic signatures in a quantum many-body system consisting of an ensemble of interacting two-level atoms coupled to a single-mode bosonic field, the so-called extended Dicke model. The presence of the atom–atom interaction also leads us to explore how the atomic interaction affects the chaotic characters of the model. By analyzing the energy spectral statistics and the structure of eigenstates, we reveal the quantum signatures of chaos in the model and discuss the effect of the atomic interaction. We also investigate the dependence of the boundary of chaos extracted from both eigenvalue-based and eigenstate-based indicators on the atomic interaction. We show that the impact of the atomic interaction on the spectral statistics is stronger than on the structure of eigenstates. Qualitatively, the integrablity-to-chaos transition found in the Dicke model is amplified when the interatomic interaction in the extended Dicke model is switched on. 13. A geostress measurement method based on an integrated drilling and optical microscopic imaging systemJinchao Wang, Chunying Wang, Zengqiang Han, Yiteng Wang, Xinjian Tang, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Conventional geostress measurement methods are limited by deficiencies including the measurable depth, the complexity, and the long duration of operation. To address these problems and achieve the measurement of geostress in deep wells under conditions of complex high pressures and high temperatures, we propose a new measurement method for geostress based on an integrated drilling and optical microscopy system. Its innovative integrated structure eliminates the problems associated with complex procedures and depth limits, and avoids rock creep caused by long delays, significantly improving the accuracy and range of the measurements. It works by using microscopic imaging and direct contact probes to capture the changes of a borehole’s cross-sectional outlines before and after stress relief. The resulting images are analyzed with search circles to obtain the positions of probe apices, which can be fitted into ellipses that describe the outlines, and calculate the state of the stress. The validity and accuracy of the method was verified by in-door tests and field applications in the ZK1 borehole. The results show that: (1) the integrated system can be used to measure micrometer-grade deformations; (2) the searchcircle approach can accurately obtain the positions of probe apices; and (3) the stress measurement method based on the system is accurate and feasible. 14. A fundamental study of the performance of X-section cast-in-place concrete single pilesYu Wang, Yaru Lv, Dongdong Zhang, Jieying Zhou, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: X-section cast-in-place concrete (XCC) piles are used because they have a higher bearing capacity than circularsection cast-in-place concrete (CCC) piles of the same cross-sectional area. Although the bearing capacity of XCC piles has been studied, the performance of XCC single piles, especially for the stress-transfer mechanism dependent on the geometrical effects, is still not fully understood. This paper reports two comparative field static load tests on an XCC and a CCC single pile of the same cross-sectional area. In addition, corresponding threedimensional numerical back-analyses are performed to provide a fundamental understanding. The measured and computed results reveal that the XCC single pile has an approximately 25% higher ultimate bearing capacity than the CCC single pile. This is because the XCC single pile has an approximately 20% larger total side resistance, which is caused by a 60% larger pile perimeter and a slightly smaller unit side resistance. Lateral soil arching effects are developed, causing a non-uniform effective normal stress and a shear stress across the circumference of the XCC single pile. It is suggested that XCC single piles have a higher efficiency in terms of material saving compared with CCC single piles. 15. Analytical solutions for one-dimensional consolidation in unsaturated soils considering the non-Darcy law of water flowJiwei Li, Huabin Wang, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Analytical solutions were derived for the non-linear, one-dimensional consolidation equations for unsaturated soils. The governing equations with a non-homogeneous mixed-boundary condition were presented, in which the water flow was assumed to be governed by a non-Darcy law, whereas the air flow followed the Darcy law. The non-Darcy law was actually the non-linear, flux-gradients relationship. The consolidation equations were thus present in a strong, non-linear way. In order to analytically solve the equation, a homotopy analysis method (HAM) was introduced in the study, which is an analytical technique for nonlinear problems. Firstly, a governing equation in a dimensionless form was derived for a one-dimensional consolidation under unsaturated soils. The method was then used for a mapping technique to transfer the original nonlinear differential equations to a number of linear differential equations. These differential equations were independent with respect to any small parameters, and were convenient for controlling the convergence region. After this transferring, a series solution to the equations was then obtained using the HAM by selecting the linear operator and the auxiliary parameters. Meanwhile, comparisons between the analytical solutions and the results of the finite-difference method indicate that the analytical solution is more efficient. Furthermore, our solutions indicate that the dissipation of air pressure is much faster than that of water pressure, and the values for the threshold gradient I have obvious effects on the dissipation values of the excess pore-water pressure, but no significant effect on that of the excess pore-air pressure. 16. The impact of transport infrastructure projects on sustainable development within a major logistics gateway in North West EnglandDimitrios Paraskevadakis, Alan Bury, Jin Wang, Jun Ren, Stephen Bonsall, Ian Jenkinson, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In the North West of England the issue of a perceived infrastructure gap is of increasing concern. Investment needs to be made to improve the transport infrastructure of the region if it is to be expected to promote the development of its own regional logistics gateway. Funding tools have been set up to address the challenges arising from the imbalance in infrastructure development that exists between regions in the north of the United Kingdom and those in the south. For regions with well developed economies the outlook is promising as the availability of modern transport infrastructure looks set to improve. However, some sources believe that the development of new transport infrastructure will have a negative impact upon sustainable development. It is expected that this will occur in a range of both direct and indirect ways. As a result, it is critical that planning for the creation of new intermodal transport infrastructure, or the upgrading of that which already exists, takes into account the impact that these developments will have on the sustainable development of the host region. A scenario based development methodology is proposed in this paper. It was developed to provide a way to identify potential scenarios that may arise within a given region as a result of transport infrastructure projects. To create significant scenarios the methodology is dependent on the availability of a sufficient quantity of quality data. For this paper that data was collected through a focus group composed of stakeholders from the region in question. This was further supported by the performance of an impact survey using the same group of stakeholders. 17. Simulating various terrestrial and UAV LiDAR scanning configurations for understory forest structure modellingMarina Hämmerle, Niko Lukač, K.-C. Chen, Zsófia Koma, C.-K. Wang, K. Anders, B. Höfle, 2017, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci Opis: Information about the 3D structure of understory vegetation is of high relevance in forestry research and management (e.g., for complete biomass estimations). However, it has been hardly investigated systematically with state-of-the-art methods such as static terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) or laser scanning from unmanned aerial vehicle platforms (ULS). A prominent challenge for scanning forests is posed by occlusion, calling for proper TLS scan position or ULS flight line configurations in order to achieve an accurate representation of understory vegetation. The aim of our study is to examine the effect of TLS or ULS scanning strategies on (1) the height of individual understory trees and (2) understory canopy height raster models. We simulate full-waveform TLS and ULS point clouds of a virtual forest plot captured from various combinations of max. 12 TLS scan positions or 3 ULS flight lines. The accuracy of the respective datasets is evaluated with reference values given by the virtually scanned 3D triangle mesh tree models. TLS tree height underestimations range up to 1.84 m (15.30 % of tree height) for single TLS scan positions, but combining three scan positions reduces the underestimation to maximum 0.31 m (2.41 %). Combining ULS flight lines also results in improved tree height representation, with a maximum underestimation of 0.24 m (2.15 %). The presented simulation approach offers a complementary source of information for efficient planning of field campaigns aiming at understory vegetation modelling. 18. Limit cycle bifurcated from a center in a three dimensional systemBo Sang, Brigita Ferčec, Qin-Long Wang, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Based on the pseudo-division algorithm, we introduce a method for computing focal values of a class of 3-dimensional autonomous systems. Using the $Є^1$-order focal values computation, we determine the number of limit cycles bifurcating from each component of the center variety (obtained by Mahdi et al). It is shown that at most four limit cycles can be bifurcated from the center with identical quadratic perturbations and that the bound is sharp. 19. Lossless geometry compression through changing 3D coordinates into 1DYongkui Liu, Lijun He, Peng-jie Wang, Linghua Li, Borut Žalik, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: A method of lossless geometry compression on the coordinates of the vertexes for grid model is presented. First, the 3D coordinates are pre-processed to be transformed into a specific form. Then these 3D coordinates are changed into 1D data by making the three coordinates of a vertex represented by only a position number, which is made of a large integer. To minimize the integers, they are sorted and the differences between two adjacent vertexes are stored in a vertex table. In addition to the technique of geometry compression on coordinates, an improved method for storing the compressed topological data in a facet table is proposed to make the method more complete and efficient. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a better compression rate than the latest method of lossless geometry compression, the Isenburg-Lindstrom-Snoeyink method. The theoretical analysis and the experiment results also show that the important decompression time of the new method is short. Though the new method is explained in the case of a triangular grid, it can also be used in other forms of grid model. 20. Self-organization towards optimally interdependent networks by means of coevolutionZhen Wang, Attila Szolnoki, Matjaž Perc, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Coevolution between strategy and network structure is established as a means to arrive at the optimal conditions needed to resolve social dilemmas. Yet recent research has highlighted that the interdependence between networks may be just as important as the structure of an individual network. We therefore introduce the coevolution of strategy and network interdependence to see whether this can give rise to elevated levels of cooperation in the prisonerʼs dilemma game. We show that the interdependence between networks self-organizes so as to yield optimal conditions for the evolution of cooperation. Even under extremely adverse conditions, cooperators can prevail where on isolated networks they would perish. This is due to the spontaneous emergence of a two-class society, with only the upper class being allowed to control and take advantage of the interdependence. Spatial patterns reveal that cooperators, once arriving at the upper class, are much more competent than defectors in sustaining compact clusters of followers. Indeed, the asymmetric exploitation of interdependence confers to them a strong evolutionary advantage that may resolve even the toughest of social dilemmas.
