A new method for testing the anti-permeability strength of clay failure under a high water pressure

Opis: It is difficult to judge the failure of clay seepage under a high water pressure.This paper presents a new method to assess clay failure based on the anti-permeability strength, which is the critical water pressure to destroy the clay. An experiment is designed to test the value that avoids the problem of the time-consuming, traditional method to test clay seepage deformation. The experimental system and the process of testing are introduced in this paper. With a self-designed experimental system and method, 18 groups of sample were tested. The results show that the clay thickness and the seepage paths influence the anti-permeability strength. It also indicates that water infiltrates into the clay under the condition that its pressure exceeds a minimum value (P0).

Thermal-mechanical sensory properties of hot-air welded textile transmission lines

Opis: Hot air welding technology is one of the new promising techniques for integrating conductive yarns on or into fabrics, besides weaving, knitting, printing, coating or inserting conductive yarns by the sewing and/or embroidery processes. A new issue related to the introduction of hot air welding technology for making e-textile transmission lines, i.e., the mechanical-thermal sensory properties of hot air welded e-textile transmission lines, is investigated in this study. Fabric Touch Tester (FTT) was used to evaluate thermal, compressive and bending properties of hot air welded transmission lines. The results show that the bending of welded fabric increased after hot air welding in both warp and weft directions. Furthermore, the maximum thermal flux and thermal conductivity of welded specimens decreased in comparison to the substrate fabric.

An efficient approximation of arbitrary curves and surfaces using intersecting polylines and meshes

Opis: This paper presents an efficient method for approximating curves and surfaces. An idea is introduced using a circle, where an arc-intersecting polyline is used instead of the traditional inner-arc polyline. The approach is then generalized to arbitrary 2D curves. The method is extended into 3D, where the approximation of spherical surface is developed based on surface-intersecting facets. Finally, a method is described for approximating the general curved surface. Theoretical analysis and the experimental results showed that the new algorithm requires considerably less geometric data at the same approximation error than the traditional one.
